Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Sitka - Kerr Cedar House

2 bedroom, one-bath home with ocean views

The Kerr Cedar House is a cozy, clean and comfortable home perfect for families or groups of all kinds. The house is nested on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean with one of the best views in town. The two-bedroom one-story floor is fully-furnished that includes a stocked kitchen, a BBQ and a sauna room. The larger of the bedrooms has a queen bed, while the second bedroom has two twin beds, which can be converted to a King size bed. Additionally the house also has two additional twin size roll-away beds. The bathroom has recently been fully remodeled with a double sink and tub shower combo. The property also has a sauna room with and extra shower and toilet.

While the house has an old vintage feel with beautiful cedar accents, the house’s true beauty is in the view. With glimpses of the boat harbor, Mt. Edgecumbe Volcano and the infinite horizon of the Pacific Ocean you really get to soak up Alaska’s beauty of stunning sunsets, marine wildlife and boats boats coming and going from the harbor. The house has a new private deck and a large lot that provides privacy from neighbors and noise.

Conveniently located within a 5-minute drive from downtown, 2 minutes from a grocery/liquor store and 10 minutes away from the airport.

About Ali Clayton

My name is Ali Clayton, and I was born and raised in Sitka, Alaska. In fact, the Kerr Cedar House was my grandparents, Carl & Alice Kerr, for over 45 years until they passed. My grandpa was a self-made fisherman and my grandma a nurse. The two built the home in 1961, where they raised their three daughters, my mom being the baby.

Now that I have completed my MBA and my grandparents have passed, I am using the home as a short-term rental.

I know that all of you will enjoy it as much as all three generations in my family have. I currently manage a local air Taxi called Harris Aircraft Services, Inc. Not only am I Alaska Native and born and raised in Sitka, but I know the Sitka area and I have over nine years of experience in the aviation, tour and travel industries. This has allowed me to become very good at handling general logistic while being able to adapt quickly the dynamic challenges that may arise within Southeast Alaska. All activities, travel and tours can be built around a budget, an itinerary or on a whim. With my experience and knowledge of Southeast, I can help guide any adventure. Just give me a shout and see what we can put together.

We spent a whole week at the Kerr Cedar house at the beginning of August 2016. The place could not have been nicer and the views were fantastic. The seafood on the island was outstanding. Ali was the best VRBO host we've ever encountered, and we've had many good experiences. Sitka is basically a small town spread on the coast of Baranov Island. It is only accessible by air or boat. Ali let us use her car the week we were there so we could go around Sitka's 12 miles of road. The place was clean and homey and the kitchen well stocked. This is a super location for a quiet get-away or fishing trip.

Beautiful location with perfect view

We loved staying here, nice quiet home with big windows looking over the bay. Home is situated near the grocery store (just a couple blocks away). Clean and accommodating with a well stocked kitchen, and plenty of linens. Only problem was no dishwasher or washing machine available.

Awesome views, great home, terrific host!

  • 5 of 5

First off, Ali made it as easy to stay in Sitka as it is to stay in our own home, including a car and kitchen stocked with the basics. She was available to answer questions and give advice whenever we needed it. She is a terrific host!

Then there is the house, obviously well cared for, it felt like being "home" walking in the door. Comfortable and cozy, clean and very relaxing, a great place to come back to after a day full of exploring, kicking off your boots and enjoying "not being in a hotel room". Having the luxury of cooking a meal in your own kitchen (or using the grill on the deck).

Then there is the stunning views!!!

Pictures just don't do it justice. Just trust me on this point. I have a lot of awesome pitures taken from the deck, but the best ones are those not viewed through a camera lens.

Lastly, the only, and we really mean ONLY, downside was depending on the time of day (and likely season, we were there during a popular holiday weekend) was that the house sits on a hill above the main road running to/from town, which is great for the views, but also gives you some road noise above what you might be expecting. Not bad, just be aware it may be there if you want to sit on the deck during "rush hour".

So thank you, Ali, for a great stay. We WILL be back to Sitka and we'd love to make the Kerr Cedar House our temporary home away from home again.

Great accomadations!

Awesome home to stay in. View was the best in Sitka I am sure. Very clean and could see the pride in ownership in the way it was kept up. Would recommend this home to everyone especially for a long term stay.

A perfect place to stay in a lovely town

  • 5 of 5

The picture of the deck does not do the view justice. Living room, dining room, and one bedroom have whole wall views with eagles soaring by and boats coming and going from the harbor. Kitchen and bathroom are both nicely updated and spotlessly clean. Kid friendly games are a bonus.

Since the restaurants in Sitka are nothing special, we ate dinner there twice (once with fresh salmon from the local grocery grilled at home on the beautiful deck) and salmon berries that the grandchildren picked themselves. The best meal on our Alaska trip.

We've stayed at many VRBO's and I do think this is the best. An accommodating owner, a great town, friendly people, great view, clean, nicely decorated, and lots of interesting things to do. Highly recommended.
