About George and Margo Miars
We have been coming to Atlantic for the past 25 years to go shelling and fishing on the beautiful Core Banks. Core Banks can be accessed by Ferry from Atlantic. Since we retired we have been looking in this area for a house and purchased this home in November 2017.
George and Margo Miars purchased this House in 2017
Why George and Margo Miars chose Atlantic
What drew us to this house was the beautiful location. The house has large glass windows across the front that allow you to enjoy the gorgeous views. The original pine flooring and open layout is conducive to informal family fun.
What makes this House unique
The private pier can be used for crabbing, fishing, and kayaking in Core Sound. The Cape Lookout National Seashore is only 2 miles across the sound and can be accessed by kayak, boat or a ferry that is located only a mile from the property. The fishing village of Atlantic is quiet and secluded but Beaufort and Morehead City with great restaurants and shops are located less than an hour away.

Boys fishing trip
We have rented more than a dozen different rentals from VRBO over the last several years. This was the best stocked/supplied unit we have ever rented. George really goes out of his way to make sure you have everything you need. House was very clean and the location/view is incredible.
Best vacation ever!
This house is equipped with everything so you don't have to bring a lot with you. The beds are wonderful. Crabbing was amazing. There is not a bad thing I can say about our stay. We enjoyed sitting out back in the water, grilling, napping and just relaxing. If you like to just chill and go to the beach this is perfect for you. We did check out Beaufort and Cedar Island and loved both. We bought fresh shrimp for $20 there was so much! We will defiantly return hopefully sooner then later! The hosts are amazing . Thanks so much for a great beach trip.
5 star kitchen and well stocked for a week or cooking, fishing, kayaking, and biking! Beautiful Dock
Plenty of rocking chairs, shade, pier, and amenities to please an active family of 5 or more. I loved catching blue crab and cooking them outside on the gas boiler. Steaks and veggies were great on the oversized gas grill. The town of Atlantic is friendly and is a great place for bike riding and site seeing. Don’t forget to visit the local fish market for the catch of the day. The house is fresh and clean with a fresh smell. The layout is perfect for cooking and entertaining. I loved the well stocked kitchen and large island and counter tops. We had blast cooking great food and working it off with activities.
Lovely house and view
We greatly enjoyed our stay. The house is very well-stocked, clean and as pictured. George and Margo gave us a warm welcome and helpful tips about the house. It is a quiet place near a fishing marina. We loved it.
Lovely House in a Very Relaxing Environment
We enjoyed George and Margo's hospitality from Aug 2-5, 2018. We were met upon arrival by our hosts, who walked us through the house and explained where everything was and how things worked. They also showed us a bottle of wine and a casserole in the freezer! We enjoyed the casserole and left a package of hot dogs for the next guest, along with some condiments in the fridge.
The kitchen was more well equipped than the one in my house. It had everything you could possibly need and more. We stopped at a Harris Teeter on our way in, about an hour from the house, and enjoyed several meals there...although sorry, George, we didn't break in that brand new grill for you!
The location was very quiet. This isn't a touristy area, it's a working one. We enjoyed watching the shrimp boats go in and out. We walked across the street to the shrimpers' marina and bought some shrimp off a boat for about $2.50/lb, which we brought back and cooked. They were huge and delicious.
We enjoyed White Point's takeout...must try the corn nuggets, yum! The location was also convenient for a trip to Beaufort and Morehead City. We love The Ruddy Duck in Morehead City, and I left a menu in the binder in the kitchen. (Tried to get one from White Point but they were out; perhaps a future guest could add it.)
If you're looking for a quiet getaway, this is definitely a place to consider. I wanted to write and got a lot of writing done, so that was great. My husband and kids wanted to fish, and got a lot of fishing done, and enjoyed catching crabs and minnows too.
One thing you have to know is, this looks like a deepwater dock but it's not. The water is only about 2.5 feet deep, and doesn't drop off for quite a bit. So we didn't catch a whole lot of fish. But some of that may have been due to all the rain the area had been having; a lot of people told us fishing was not good anywhere.
If you're looking for remote and quiet, and you don't mind driving 45 minutes to get to restaurants and/or shopping, this is the place for you! Get out to Beaufort and Morehead City if you want to eat or shop. And Harker's Island was fun at night; we enjoyed seeing all the lit up anchors!
(Plus where else can you take a picture with a rhinoceros statue?)
George and Margo, I'd consider adding the following: another towel rack in the main bath, more pillows, a picnic table on the deck.
Will definitely come back again
Loved the house, great hosts and awesome hospitality.
Very quite, my kids loved crabbing (crab fishing).
Can't wait for next summer :)
