Quiet, clean and lovely! Home Away from Home!

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed having time to be quiet and just be on the beach. The place was quiet,

clean and lovely. If you need a place to retreat or a home away from home, this is a great spot!

The condo was so nice and clean....had everything. Truly felt like home!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for all of your help in scheduling this trip! We had an absolutely wonderful time. The condo was so nice and clean, it had everything we could have asked for and it truly felt like home. We were all really impressed with how lovely the condo and beach were. The beach was fantastic, not too crowded and very pristine. We enjoyed taking walks on the beach with the pups and shelling, along with just spending hours being lazy and watching the waves roll in while we relaxed on the beach. To top of an incredible vacation my sister and her boyfriend got engaged while we were there! I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed ourselves and how nice the condo and area were. We are already talking about booking with you again next year, hopefully for an even longer stay!! I personally forgot to take pictures (I never remember to take pictures!) but I will check with everyone else and email you any pictures we have of the dogs enjoying the beach. Thank you again for all of your help and hospitality! I look forward to returning to the cape soon!!

Thank you!

Perfect. Loved the Lake and the close proximity to the beach!

  • 5 of 5

The condo was the perfect size for me, my fiance and my doggie. We loved watching people fish in the lake and the close proximity to the beach was perfect. We had a great time at the Cape and can't wait to get back.

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you and the pups enjoy Cape Escape II and your Cape Escape! Cape Escape II is well-situated...best of both worlds with the lake off your back deck and the beach a few steps out your front door. I'll look forward to having you back again when you and the dogs are ready for another beach trip!

Another Amazing Stay at Barrier Dunes Cape Escape II

  • 5 of 5

This is our second trip to Barrier Dunes Cape Escape II and can I say it was even better than the first! We stumbled upon this place a couple years back when we were looking for a dog friendly place on the beach that our entire family would love. We found it, and had such a good time we decided to come back for more. First the accommodations are perfect. There is plenty of room for everyone and we loved the privacy of this unit. The porch has a great view and the kids loved watching the fish and turtles. The unit was stocked with all the key essentials, and we loved the great beach chairs and cart to carry them. The dogs loved it too. The beach is so beautiful and big, with great white sand. The pools were great as well. If you are looking for a place to really reconnect as a family, with few distractions, this is it. We were able to take family bike rides, walks, built a bonfire on the beach for s'mores, roller blade, walk our dogs in a safe gated community, etc. The bed was super comfortable too. I slept better there than at home! We enjoyed some great local food too. For a nicer dinner we ate at Sunset Coastal grille in Port St. Joe, then of course we had to go to the super casual, but always delicious Indian Pass Raw Bar. The oysters were awesome, according to my husband and I loved the stuffed shrimp. Our favorite little place was Joe Mama's for salad and the best brick oven pizza. We actually went two nights we loved it so much. This trip we also tried Pepe's Mexican, which was delicious too. We even did a night of Chinese takeout from town, which everyone enjoyed. One of the days was a bit chilly so we headed for a half day in Apalachicola. The stores are unique and fun to browse around, then we did a repeat from our last trip and had lunch at the dog-friendly Up the Creek Raw Bar. Food was good and our dogs loved siting on the enclosed outside deck with us. They gave the cheeseburger four paws up. We liked the blackened shrimp and great chowder. Perhaps the best food find of the entire trip was the little Weber's donut kiosk about 3 miles up the road from Barrier Dunes. Every morning the freshest, most delicious, hot donuts are made there. I am usually a healthy breakfast eater, but even I could not resist these donuts, especially the glazed croissant. The best thing about this trip was the ease of making arrangements. Wendy is so wonderful, attentive and efficient. She made things easy on us in every way. Will we we back again? Yes, no question!

Barrier Dunes Cape Escape II - Simply AMAZING!!

  • 5 of 5

Oh My Goodness..Where do I start? We were referred to Wendy Jackson @ The Cape Escape by our good friends who rented for two months just a couple units away. We both have dogs that are family and we were looking for a place to get out of the winter and cold here in Toronto since retiring and officially becoming "Snowbirds"! Our friends found Barrier Dunes in Port St. Joe, Florida. Initially we were concerned about the weather being in the Northern part of Florida, due to all the "chatter" of friends and family about it being "cold" in January and February. However, we decided to brave the "storm" so to speak. Well, lets first start with the accommodations... We were at Barrier Dunes Cape Escape II. We arrived early (2PM) and were allowed in to the unit, as the cleaners had finished early (BONUS). We were just in awe of the unit! The view was amazing. Two porches in the back and one off the master bedroom. We backed onto a turtle pond. We loved, loved feeding the turtles and they came to the shore with their little heads popped up each day awaiting their treats and the fishing was fun..little sunfish and bass that we could throw back and catch again! The unit was in perfect shape and very well provisioned. Furniture was clean and comfortable. The BEACH...oh the beach was amazing. White sand! Beautiful Sunsets! Puppies everywhere! Restaurants - The Sand Bucket, Indian Pass Raw Bar were just a short drive. Coneheads which you could walk to was unfortunately under renovations during our stay, but we look forward to visiting next year! The Dockside Restaurant was great in Port St. Joe and The Owl in Apalachacola was wonderful. We visited many times and the pups were welcome at the outside patio. Horseback Riding on the Beach...I ticked that one off my bucket list..Check out Two Bit Stables. Owner Cheryl...YOU ROCK! She made us all feel very comfortable on her horses, that were so calm and obedient. You could tell they were treated with kindness. We rode twice. The last one a sunset ride...AMAZING! So in closing, I highly recommend Wendy Jackson and www.thecapeescape.com if you're looking for a comfortable, relaxing, fun place to get away. We have met so many wonderful new friends and have all booked for next year. Thank you!
