A Recipe for a Great Vacation

Beautiful, Historic Georgetown… it’s true! Start with towering mountains that cradle the picturesque village of architectural homes built in the 1800’s. Flower infused yards line the narrow streets. Add museums, unique shops, and quaint award winning restaurants. Stir in the famous Clear Creak which runs through the middle of the entire community on its mission to top off beautiful Georgetown Lake. Season this with numerous festivals and the authentic Georgetown Loop scenic railroad. Garnish with small town, friendly locals and the best LOCATION in Colorado. This is what awaits when you vacation rent our private chalet duplex right on the Clear Creek in Georgetown, Colorado.

Our “Georgetown Spot” vacation rental is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath chalet style duplex. It was built in 1973 by speculative investors looking to cash in on Colorado’s 1976 Winter Olympic bid. However, the Olympics were not awarded to Colorado. The project, which included all of the duplexes along the Clear Creek on Clear Creek Drive, went bust. Eventually the structures were made available to the public and sold off.

The chalet is post-and-beam constructed and receives ample sunshine with its true southern exposure. Parking is easy right next to the entrance and there is a small fenced yard. Sitting under the big fur tree in the grass area closest to the creek and watching people stroll by is highly recommended!

The chalet was recently renovated specifically for vacation rental activity. It is ideal for one or two couples or for a family. The main living area features a sun-drenched wall of windows that looks out at the Clear Creek and the entrances to Guanella Pass and Loveland Pass. The large open lower level has a vaulted pine ceiling, counter bar, as well as a dining table area and living room with gas fireplace. The fully equipped kitchen has stainless appliances, washer and dryer, and a walk-in pantry. The swivel wall-mounted, hi-def television with Bose sound is visible from anywhere on the lower level and balcony. Step out onto any of the three lower level decks - grill on the back deck or watch the Clear Creek flow past on the other two.

The inside balcony of our Georgetown unit features a custom copper pipe and beveled glass paneled handrail and copper stair banister. The “honeymoon suite” on the balcony level has a queen-size canopy bed with bedside refrigerator. There is an antique dresser and large closet plus a sitting area with two comfortable chairs. Relax and read a book or gaze out at the beautiful Georgetown scenery. The glass slider lets you out onto the private exterior 2nd floor balcony for an even better look at the Clear Creek and the surrounding mountains. There is also a second, small bedroom with full size bed and skylight on the second floor.

The master bedroom on the first floor features a vaulted ceiling, huge oak queen size bed and gigantic closets. It is located on the opposite end of the house from the honeymoon suite which guarantees privacy for times when two couple are sharing the unit.

The chalet is furnished with a combination of antiques and modern furnishing like the comfortable leather Nattuzzi sofa and love seat. Hot air ballooning artwork abounds as well as some traditional ski chalet decor. Beveled glass, stained glass, and ceramic accents are found throughout the unit.

About Tom Forenz

The Georgetown “spot” duplex is owned by Tom Forenz and his son Didier Bonnette-Forenz. It is dedicated to our beautiful wife and mother, Michelle.

Tom is an aviation entrepreneur known for hot air balloon piloting and aviation maintenance textbook writing and editing. He is a former professor of aviation technology at Southern Illinois University and an alum of Embry Ridle Aeronautical University. He holds an MBA, a real estate appraiser's license and a variety of certifications from the FAA. On the other hand, Tom is also a guitar player and stonework artisan who has built numerous walls, patios, and waterfalls - all without concrete.

Didier is a student and artist currently employed on a project to open one of the first obese kids camps here in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. In addition to this, Didier plays drums, is an avid rock climber, and ceramic artist. Some of his works decorate the chalet. He's also a better cook than his father.

Both Tom and Didier are high-level snow skiers and are available to guide or give lessons to our winter guests. Let us know if you are interested in these services.

Why Tom Forenz chose Front Range Colorado

Being avid skiers, we were looking for a condo in Summit County. After a fruitless afternoon of searching there, we stopped in Georgetown on the way home. Touring the charming village, we came upon the Georgetown Spot! The location, setting, and "vibe" were great. The Clear Creek right outside was the icing on the cake.

The small town charm of a genuine community like Georgetown was appealing compared to the thousands of condos over in Summit. Having previously renovated 4 houses, we bought the Spot and transformed it to accommodate our vacation rental guests.

We've always like the look , friendliness, and location of Georgetown, but to have a chalet with such great mountain views and privacy in the middle of town on the Clear Creek was virtually a "no brainer". In our time spent there, already we have discovered treasures we had not anticipated - like Saxon Mountain behind the chalet with its 6 mile trail/road to the top and Sunday afternoon bluegrass jams at the Alpine Inn. Across the valley, the waterfalls high on the mountain are visible from the front deck and yard most months of the year. We also found the history and museums in Georgetown to be unique and interesting.

What makes this chalet unique

The "Vibe"...

The energy is great at our duplex in Georgetown. It feels good to be there with the Clear Creek by your side and mountains all around. No houses face our chalet and you will find it private, but in the middle of everything with great views . The Georgetown Greenway Trail provides walking access to all areas in the Georgetown valley and it’s right outside the door. Go in one direction to shoppes, food, entertainment and services, go the other direction to Georgetown Lake.

Speaking of vibe, we’re 4:20 friendly. However we ask that you smoke outside. Discretion is advised, as always. Vaping indoors is fine, of course. A dispensary with adjacent liquor store is located just 3 blocks straight out the front door. Take the path along the creek and cross at the first bridge. Keep going south past the businesses until you see it.

Hot Air Ballooning Package

Since Tom is a nationally recognized, commercial hot air balloon pilot with over 1600 flights logged in all sizes of balloons, it seem remiss if we don’t offer a package that includes renting the Georgetown Spot AND a hot air balloon ride for 2 (given when the weather permits some time during your stay). Ask us about it!

Basically we add a private balloon ride in our Ladybug hot air balloon to your vacation rental fee. However, the $250 discount off the going rate for a private ride will have you as high as the mountains, floating effortlessly over Summit County or the Denver valley.

  • There are three bedrooms. The master is on the first floor. It has a large oak queen-size bed and dresser, vaulted ceiling and large closets. There is a bedroom on the second floor balcony that we call the "honeymoon suite". It features a beautiful queen size canopy bed with bedside refrigerator and a sitting area in front of view-filled, south facing windows. The honeymoon suit has its own glass door to a private outdoor second story balcony that looks right down on the Clear Creek and out at the Rocky Mountains. The third bedroom is a bunk room with vaulted ceiling and a skylight. It has an antique full size bed and dresser. All beds have high quality linens. The queen size beds have been fitted with distinctly different mattresses and pillows (firm, soft, etc.) in hope that there will be a bed that is "just right" for everyone. An extra queen size air mattress is available if needed and the couch is very comfortable too : )

The house is excellent. We were all comfortable, the beds were great. The location is wonderful. You can view the creek right outside the window. There is a walking path across the street from the house. Walking distance to Family Dollar and the grocery store. The historic section is within walking distance for some, about 20 minutes from the house. Kitchen cookware, utensils and stoneware were wonderful and in excellent shape, high quality. Definitely recommend.

We have nothing but raves to send to the owner. This Chalet is is located in the perfect spot. We enjoyed The Georgetown Loop Railroad, horseback riding and whitewater rafting (combo through Mile Hi Rafting which was also awesome and reasonably priced), Loveland's Pass and so much more all within an hour or less drive! The house itself is so beautiful and located in such an amazing spot we even enjoyed waking early watching sunrise over the mountains with a hot cup of coffee. We will be back without a doubt! Thank you so very much!!
