About the owner: I am originally from a small midwestern town, and have lived in many places around the world but keep returning here to the paradise in the cove....Redondo Beach. I love the diversity of the South Bay, from the diversity of the people, to the diversity of the terrain: tide pools to eucalyptus forests, coastline resorts to working ranches just inland... I love living in the south bay!
Linda purchased this cottage in 1200
We love our little beach house on the hill above Miramar Park. Walkable to the beach, it's a beautiful haven in the trees, away from bustle of the south bay. The Upper Riviera has with the feel of the Pacific Northwest, boasting incredible natural features like tide pools, Palos Verdes cliffs and hiking trails, and the beautiful cove of south Redondo Beach. Walk right out the back gate of the property onto a quiet wood chip trail that leads 2 blocks from the ocean. Stroll down to the water in just about 10 minutes.
Close to the ocean, walk to the beach, pet and kid-friendly yard and home, in a forest of eucalyptus trees, on a wood chip trail used for hiking and jogging, close to Trader Joe's, Von's, shopping, Riviera Village spas, cafes, and shops. Our house is located close to cross streets Calle Mayor and Palos Verdes Blvd. Riviera Village is the local shopping area and a great location for dining... tons of good little food spots there. You really can't go wrong. Also a Trader Joes, a Von's, and an Albertson's, several banks, spas, you name it. For recreation, Olympus Paddle Boards or Tarsan are great sources of recreation for the family; the harbor also offers rental kayaks and paddle boats, and has glass bottom boat tours. While you are here you should visit Sea Lab in Redondo Beach. It was founded by local residents twin brothers Bill and Bob Meistrell, lovers of oceanic life and inventors of the wetsuit! Redondo Beach is an amazing ecological area, featuring the Redondo Canyon, one of the deepest spots of the ocean, and located just off the coast at Redondo Beach, making it a star destination for snorkeling and deep sea diving. Redondo Beach was also the home of one of the largest inland salt marshes in North America... the current wildlife is a tribute to that feature. Redondo was also home of the first ever lifeguard training established by George Freeth in 1908 (he singlehandedly saved over 20 stranded Japanese sailors in a ship wreck off the coast of Redondo Beach by swimming out and bringing each person back one by one.) Currently, and in contrast to northern neighbors Hermosa and Manhattan, Redondo Beach is a family oriented, casual community on the ocean. And the Hollywood Riviera section of Redondo is located in a quiet, hilltop forest overlooking the ocean. Whether you enjoy biking, jogging, kite sailing, stand up paddle boarding, surfing, or just lying on the beach and building sand castles, Redondo has it all. See you soon!
Linda was an excellent host and made sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. She was very attentive, hospitable, and accommodating.
Situated at the top of the hill in beautiful residential Torrance, her home has an artsy, secret-garden feel and the casita we stayed in is nestled among fruit trees in the back of the gardener/kid-friendly yard, shared with two sweet ducks, a couple of hens, and two friendly cats. We loved the natural setting of her home and the casita itself was very clean, spacious, and extra comfortable. I especially loved the backyard exit into the eucalyptus-lined footpath behind the house that leads down to the Redondo cliff-side and the ocean. A refreshing jaunt down to the beach can happen at anytime! The neighborhood is quiet and calm, and the casita gets the perfect amount of sunlight and shade. We love the Redondo area for fresh air, stunning cliff sides and views, and beautiful beaches that are NOT overly populated. Linda's casita is the perfect place for anyone looking for a friendly, calm, peaceful getaway by the sea. We look forward to visiting again someday!
This sweet little casita was well equipped for a beautiful romantic get away with my fiancee. This studio was roomy enough for the 2 of us, and it is one of the cleanest vacation rentals we have ever stayed in.
An easy, beautiful walk to the ocean, and a quick drive to shops, spas, and oceanic activities!
This casita has everything you would need for a great vacation stay in the peaceful Hollywood Riviera, from super comfortable queen bed, white fluffy towels, dining table for 4, checkers and chess, to a beautiful wood chip trail right out the back gate. I highly suggest staying here!
We stayed for one night in Linda's casita studio and had a great time. Linda was helpful, and responsive to our needs. The studio is set back and private in the back yard behind the main house, which also had guests, however we never seemed to cross paths.
The casita was very clean, furnished comfortably, and had plenty of towels, a nice smart TV, a microwave, coffee maker: everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The casita is situated right beside a beautiful hiking path, with gate access right onto the trail. We had a great little hike down to the beach with our pooch!
The place is comfortable, clean, and sweet!
Linda was amazing!
We stayed here for 2 days and had a great time! My daughter, especially, loved the ducks and the chickens.
Close enough to Redondo Beach to walk (Redondo Beach the least populated of the South Bay beaches), and only a 2 minute drive to Riviera Village. You need a car or plan on using Uber or Lyft if you want to explore the city.
Linda was very responsive and welcoming!
We stayed here for 3 days recently. Riviera Village, was super cute and had many shops and interesting cafes and clubs. The beach was serene and beautiful, and very close by. We walked down twice, but found that it was easier to drive on the day we had our boogie boards and scuba gear with us.
Every morning we awoke to the sounds of birds chirping and really nothing else. This property is easy to find and close to the main streets, but far enough off the road to avoid traffic and city noise.
My son loved the yard with all of the play equipment. We loved walking our dogs on the woodchip trail, again, a beautiful experience with natural plants and wild critters including hawks, falcons, and ground squirrels.
The little cottage was clean and very nicely decorated and had all the necessary kitchen supplies to cook microwave meals if desired. The refrigerator was ample for our beverages and leftovers. They could step it up in the way of normal supplies like paper towels (only 1 roll, though there was a stack of linen dish towels.) The kitchen area was as nice as a better hotel suite, overall, which was a nice surprise. The sink for dishwashing was outside which was a surprise. I wasn't too keen on this feature, but I didn't expect to wash dishes during my stay so this did not affect my impression.
The bathroom didn't have an outlet. We requested an extension cord for future quests.
The bed was very comfortable and the linens were new. There were plenty of fluffy new towels. Wash cloths were supplied upon request.
The unit did not have a/c, but after speaking with the owner she did supply a fan right away and we were very comfortable for the rest of our visit.
These things were minor and were remedied very quickly.
One thing we were a little disappointed in was that there is no cable tv or television. There is wifi though, and we were able to log onto netflix and the internet for local news and movies.
There are many friendly creatures in the shared yard: roaming cats, a couple of ducks, and the owner told us there were also chickens, though we never saw them. This is a 'back house' and the owner lives in the main house, which was nice because she was able to respond quickly to our needs. Her children were playing in the shared yard which my son was happy about. At night we had ample privacy.
Overall the value is great for this location and it felt like living in our own little neighborhood for a few days.
Cats, ducks, and chickens live here! It's like glamping, but with regular homey accommodations. If you happen to see a kitten inside your unit, just show them to the door!
