Overview

About the property

Tiny, Peaceful Bungalow walkable to the beach at a Budget Price

Riviera Beach Bungalow is a budget conscious, slightly funky, basic, clean space to stay, with access to the La Selva trail, less than 1 mile

to the beach! Located in the prestigious Hollywood Riviera, in South Redondo Beach. South Redondo is the destination for surfing, diving, swimming, boogie boarding, biking, paddle boarding.... you name it!

This studio cottage was once upon a time a 2 car garage. Now it sports fairly traded, vertically cut bamboo floors, a skylight, and french doors. Inside, this is a cozy studio casita with bathroom, queen bed, memory foam sleeper sofa, smart TV for your Netflix or Amazon Prime account, and similar to a hotel room, it offers a microwave, mini refrigerator, and coffee pot. We also provide an electric skillet and outdoor propane grill.

The little studio casita is in an amazing location, and cute on the inside. The studio casita is not an upscale or luxury accommodation. It is a great basic base from which you can have a wonderful adventure in the South Bay, at a budget price. Even hotel rooms in the area cost more: the Best Western plus, located about 1/2 mile away, is $180 per night.

This unit is organic, so you will see spiders and other bugs here and there, inside and out. It's a cozy comfortable nest in a rural outdoor setting in the forest, walkable to Redondo Beach!

---

Away from the hustle and bustle! A nice walk (beautiful, view filled walk; 1 mile) down to the beach.

No Smoking, vaping, or incense is permitted in either building or in the yard/playground

No Parties are permitted.

Close to all Southern California attractions, we are located just:

5 minutes to shopping and the beach

5 minutes to surfing, hang gliding, scuba, snorkeling, fishing, swimming, bike riding.....

20 minutes south of LAX Airport

15 minutes north of Donald National Trump Golf Course, Terranea Resort & Spa

30 minutes to Downtown LA; Theatres, Staples Center, Museums, Disney Concert Hall, Clubs,

45 minutes to Disneyland, Universal Studios and Magic Mountain

Walk to Redondo Beach's Riviera Village cafes, spas, wine bars, and of course the Ocean!

Direct access to the beautiful hiking trails of Palos Verdes, a beautiful view-filled walk to the beach, in a quiet residential neighborhood.

Do you have special requests? Just ask! I've lived in Redondo Beach for 20 years and would love to guide you on your dream vacation ;)

About Mai

About the manager: I am originally from a small midwestern town, and have lived in many places around the world but keep returning here to the paradise in the cove....Redondo Beach. I love the diversity of the South Bay, from the diversity of the people, to the diversity of the terrain: tide pools to eucalyptus forests, coastline resorts to working ranches just inland... I love living in the south bay!

Mai purchased this guest house in 1200

Why Mai chose Torrance

This tiny studio home is located on the hill above Miramar Park. Walkable to the beach, it's a serene haven in the trees, away from bustle of the south bay.

This is a rustic, vintage, and easy dwelling... not fussy and super updated. It is great for laid back beach weekenders with a cute and comfortable interior, to the patio, barbeque, and kid friendly back yard.

This is an organic dwelling. We don't use pesticides. As such, you may be visited by some bugs such as daddy long legs spiders, and gnats during gnat season. They are harmless. For the safety of our guests, we prefer a few bugs to a poisoned environment. If you do see a spider, please don’t scream, as it may scare her. ;)

The Upper Riviera has with the feel of the Pacific Northwest, boasting incredible natural features like tide pools, Palos Verdes cliffs and hiking trails, and the beautiful cove of south Redondo Beach. Walk right out the back gate of the property onto a quiet wood chip jogging/running trail that leads down to the ocean. Stroll down to the water in just about 25 minutes.

What makes this guest house unique

Close to the ocean, walk to the beach, pet and kid-friendly yard and home, in a forest of eucalyptus trees, on a wood chip trail used for hiking and jogging, close to Trader Joe's, Von's, shopping, Riviera Village spas, cafes, and shops.

This unit is located close to cross streets Calle Mayor and Palos Verdes Blvd. Riviera Village is the local shopping area and a great location for dining... tons of good little food spots there. You really can't go wrong.

Also a Trader Joes, a Von's, and an Albertson's, several banks, spas, you name it. For recreation, Olympus Paddle Boards or Tarsan are great sources of recreation for the family; the harbor also offers rental kayaks and paddle boats, and has glass bottom boat tours. While you are here you should visit Sea Lab in Redondo Beach. It was founded by local residents twin brothers Bill and Bob Meistrell, lovers of oceanic life and inventors of the wetsuit!

Redondo Beach is an amazing ecological area, featuring the Redondo Canyon, one of the deepest spots of the ocean, and located just off the coast at Redondo Beach, making it a star destination for snorkeling and deep sea diving. Redondo Beach was also the home of one of the largest inland salt marshes in North America... the current wildlife is a tribute to that feature. Redondo was also home of the first ever lifeguard training established by George Freeth in 1908 (he singlehandedly saved over 20 stranded Japanese sailors in a ship wreck off the coast of Redondo Beach by swimming out and bringing each person back one by one.)

Currently, and in contrast to northern neighbors Hermosa and Manhattan, Redondo Beach is a family oriented, casual community on the ocean. And the Hollywood Riviera section of Redondo is located in a quiet, hilltop forest overlooking the ocean. Whether you enjoy biking, jogging, kite sailing, stand up paddle boarding, surfing, or just lying on the beach and building sand castles, Redondo has it all.

See you soon!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Linda was an excellent host and made sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. She was very attentive, hospitable, and accommodating.

Situated at the top of the hill in beautiful residential Torrance, her home has an artsy, secret-garden feel and the casita we stayed in is nestled among fruit trees in the back of the gardener/kid-friendly yard, shared with two sweet ducks, a couple of hens, and two friendly cats. We loved the natural setting of her home and the casita itself was very clean, spacious, and extra comfortable. I especially loved the backyard exit into the eucalyptus-lined footpath behind the house that leads down to the Redondo cliff-side and the ocean. A refreshing jaunt down to the beach can happen at anytime! The neighborhood is quiet and calm, and the casita gets the perfect amount of sunlight and shade. We love the Redondo area for fresh air, stunning cliff sides and views, and beautiful beaches that are NOT overly populated. Linda's casita is the perfect place for anyone looking for a friendly, calm, peaceful getaway by the sea. We look forward to visiting again someday!

Perfect place for the two of us!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in the casita! Linda was great with the communication when we got there and it was in a perfect location for us. We used it as a home base and did a lot of day trips, so we weren’t able to experience the amazing trail that I read about in the other reviews because we ran out of time. I guess that means that we will just have to come back! :)

Owner pleasant however, term casita misleading

  • 2 of 5

This property, listed as a casita, is a garage with a toilet shower and bed. We had booked a few days and left after one night. No central heat, floor heater only. More like a european hostel. We lost a lot of money, but the owner kept it all. Live and learn.

Comfy spot

  • 4 of 5

We actually ended up staying 2 nights in the Casita which was as described, quirky, cozy and comfortable. We moved into the front house for another 2 nights and it was great. (Some instructions on how to operate the TV would have been helpful, but there wasn't much time for TV so it really didn't matter.) Linda was really helpful in resolving our minor issues with the Casita, she really went the extra mile for us and we were grateful. The eucalyptus lined walk down to the ocean was wonderful, a little strenuous, just right for me.

Just OK - Better Alternatives Exist

  • 3 of 5

I stay in a VRBO every week in the LA Beach Cities area so I have stayed in many other VRBOs in this same area. In my opinion, this vacation rental does not rate as high as any of the others I've stayed in, especially since it is an equivalent price to the others. The front (main) house seems very run down (in addition to the neighbor's next door) so when I arrived at dusk, it was creepy and I almost considered not even doing into the yard to the guesthouse and just staying in a hotel. However, I proceeded. The guesthouse was pretty basic (as I was expecting from the description) but there were some issues. There was no plug in the bathroom or anywhere near a mirror where I could plug in a curling iron to get ready in the morning. I had to curl my hair at work. The TV was also super small and I could barely see it from the bed. The TV signal was also bad with pixelated picture most of the night. The dog next door barked for a good hour right outside my window. The stay was "Just OK".

Owner's Response: We are sorry you were here for work and did not take advantage of the walk to the ocean, or the beautiful neighborhood. This casita is a beachside getaway in a resort area of South Redondo Beach. After looking at your travel history we can see that the other places you are comparing this to are much further inland, up against the 405 freeway, and an easy commute to your work. It is truly apples and oranges. We have contacted the neighbor about the dog, and this should not be an issue again. The bathroom outlet is beside the door, and an extension cord is supplied as well, in case it is needed. Please give us a try again. We are sure you will enjoy your stay.

Peace and quiet and great location

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay overall. The beds are comfortable which is a big plus. We enjoyed waking the bridle path behind the house downhill (uphill is a bit of a workout 😯)...It's a real taste of vintage California with the stands of Eucalyptus trees, and sounds of birds. Beach , restaurants and shopping a short drive from the property.

We were given an incorrect code to access the house and when we arrived about 4:30, we rec'd no immediate response from any of the 3 phone numbers.

When we did gain access we noted the second bed was not made. We had to make additional calls to get another code to unlock a cabinet to get sheets. Fortunately there was soap in same cabinet for our use. (None at sink or shower. )

We had one dog who loved the yard. He was fed in his kennel where he also slept. We were quickly infested with ants. Again, fortunate that we had access to the cabinet which contained

a natural pest repellent.

In spite of a frustrating start to our 2 night stay we had a great time and found Suzi and Linda very nice hostesses. I trust the challenges we incurred were unique.

I would definitely stay again in this sweet organic house. My friend & dog has more 4* tastes, would not.

Owner's Response: Janis, Thank you for the feedback! ;) We are intent on making sure guests are comfortable and have a great stay. You stayed during an oddly dry spell in the county, and ant infestations were abundant everywhere. Thanks to your feedback we were able to take prompt measures against further problems. You are welcome back any time!
