The cabin is nestled in the central Black Hills near the famous Moonshine Gulch Saloon. The cabin offers the quiet serene beauty of the Black Hills along with some of the most incredible rides or hikes imaginable just outside the back door. The cabin is 38 miles to Sturgis, 35 miles to Crazy Horse, 30 miles to Mt. Rushmore, 30 miles to Hill City, 25 miles to Deerfield Lake and 18 miles to Deadwood.
This place is a jewel in the Black Hills! The view, cabin and the owner were without a doubt the best! We had everything we needed for the cabin and the Black Hills did the rest. I highly recommend that if you are looking for a place in the Hills, look no farther than this property. Can't wait to go back!
This cabin is 1/4 mile from Mickelson trail. Nice place to come back to in the evenings. We enjoyed our stay.
This cabin had everything we were looking for. It was charming, comfortable, a great view, central location for visiting both northern and southern attractions, and the price was affordable. We were welcomed with snacks and fresh flowers. Clacie checked in with us shortly after arriving to make sure we had everything we needed. He also supplied plenty bottled water for our stay. The cabin was clean and had all the comforts of home with all the kitchen tools needed. Great eating areas for both indoor and outdoor sitting. The view on the deck overlooked the creek and the little quaint town of Rochford. You could hear the sound of the bubbling creek. We saw a number of deer on the property and two elk on the road nearby. It was a little tricky finding the driveway the first time we arrived, because it is right next to the Moonshine Gulch Saloon and it is steep but we had no problems getting up it each time. Going to the Saloon and the Rochford Mall right at the bottom of the driveway are both unique experiences and great if you want to get a feel for the local life. The upstairs bedroom is a good size with one queen size bed and another bed that could sleep another couple. The downstairs bedroom had a bunk bed that could sleep 2 comfortably but not in the same bed. The bathroom upstairs was good size with washer and drier but no shower. The downstairs bathroom was smaller with the shower. Sharing the shower worked fine for the four of us. Clacie answered all questions we had in a very timely manner. It is a great cabin that we would rent again.
Our family of 5 stayed here for 5 nights. It was the perfect place to come back to after a busy day of sight seeing in the Black Hills. The wrap around deck was very relaxing, overlooking the quiet little town of Rochford. Cabin was very cozy and plenty of room for our family of 5. Cabin was equipped with everything you need, including bedding, towels, dishes and cooking utensils. Our kids loved exploring outside and walking on the nearby trails. We visited the Moonshine Gulch Saloon, just at the bottom of the hill. Great food and friendly people at this great little hole in the wall! It's a little bit of a drive to get to places, but we thought it was worth it. Very relaxing place and would highly suggest checking it out! Just an FYI- driveway is very steep, give it some gas and we had no problems getting up. But you'll want to use your parking break:) Also, a local we met at the bar told us to go to nearby Deerfield Lake. It was very peaceful and beautiful there!
This place was the best experience ever. I came with my niece from Tennessee and another niece from Nebraska and we had a super great time. Definitely coming back!!
The cabin was relatively clean. Owner provided plenty of drinking water, which was nice. All of the communication with the owner was also very solid and clear. For the price, it was a nice place to stay. A few notes:
1. Rochford is 30 minutes (or more) from Hill City. So you are out there. It is very quiet, you may not see more than 2 or 3 folks while in town. The population of Rochford is 8. We enjoyed walking around town after we returned each night, but this kind of remoteness is not for everyone.
2. The hill up to the cabin is very steep. We didn't have a problem, but some folks could be intimidated.
3. The cabin is also used by the owners, so there is a lot of their stuff around - pictures and all. They also had their own stuff in the refrigerator door. We didn't mind this, but again, not for everyone.
4. We absolutely loved the view from the deck, we spent as much time out there as we could.
