Charming and comfortable house, nicely renovated and short drive to shops and supermarkets.
Our family of 5 adults stayed for 2 weeks. The house was a great size for us and we spent lots of time in the gardens and terrace area. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all very clean and there were lots of towels and linens. The bbq was a great asset once we had figured out how it worked and cleaned it up. A car is a must for getting to the supermarket and shops. Tarbes is a half hour drive. We drove into the mountains for a couple of walks (2hrs each way). Enjoyed the market in nearby Vic. Unfortunately the guest information folder was very out of date but we managed to get up to date info while out and about. It was very hot during our stay so we had to take care to keep shutters closed to keep the rooms cool and the septic tank smell was a bit restricting at times. The World Cup football was on during our stay so it was disappointing when the cable tv stopped working, however we managed to use the wi fi to watch on our laptop.
Despite the above we had a great fortnight overall!
Lovely place in a quiet place
Great place
Trip to visit Lourdes with family
Being home again already for one week, after we had a short stay at Caixon, we want to let you know that we had a wonderful time and an enjoy full stay at your holiday home in Caixon. What a nice and well organised and neatly home you have their.
As specially my mother in law, who had a special wish to visit Lourdes one more time at here 91 age, enjoyed the stay very much, which was possible because of the level floor facilities.
Beautiful, spacious, well equipped farmhouse
Wonderful part of the South of France if you're looking for a quiet relaxing break near the beautiful Pyrenees. We were visiting friends in the area and fortunately also found time to visit Lourdes, Pau and take the cable car and chair lift from pont d'espagne, cauterets to walk to the amazing lake and waterfalls in the Pyrenees. You definitely need a car to fully enjoy this area, particularly as Caixon is a pretty traditional French village, but has no shops - and a part of any French experience has to be daily freshly baked baguettes and croissants, just 5 minutes drive away! The farmhouse has bags of space and charm and contains everything you need to feel at home. You will also find plenty of reasonably priced restaurants only a short drive away. The orchard and courtyard are perfect for relaxing in the shade or sun. We would recommend a stay here, and hope to return.
It was a pleasure having you. So glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return to the area one day to experience even more of what it has to offer.
Summer 2014
We all enjoyed a fabulous stay in the farmhouse in Caixon. The house is set in large grounds of its own giving a very relaxed and spacious feel to the place. The semi covered seating area and table outside were perfect for evening meals and due to the roof extending over half the courtyard we were even able to eat outside on the one occasion when it rained.
The lounge was extremely comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped, while all 4 bedrooms were comfortable and spacious.
This is the perfect house for a quiet retreat - Caixon is a very small and peaceful village. However the towns of Vic and Mauborget are not very far away if you need shops, restaurants and bars.
We were lucky that the house was close to two stages of the Tour de France in 2014, but as it's only around 40 miles from the Col du Tormalet, the tour will pass close by most years.
During our stay we were able to visit Pau, Lourdes, Carcassonne and even Pamplona in Spain, easily on day trips.
Finally, the owner is extremely helpful, providing lots of useful documents about the house, directions and local amenities and he was more than happy to field one or two e-mail queries I had about hiring bikes.
We would certainly recommend the place very highly and have in fact already booked for next year.
What a fantastic time we all had.
We were really surprised to find such a lovely place not far from Lourdes and in the middle of a small village. I will recommend the villa to anyone. Just go once, you would want to return again.
Location
Life in Caixon goes on at a very relaxed pace, and it is tempting just to sit in the sun, listen to the birds, and let it wash over you. However, it would be a pity not to explore further afield with so much to see and do nearby. The list below (which is far from exhaustive) gives you a flavour of what is available in the area. The Pyrenées - activities: hiking, rock climbing, rafting/canoeing, paragliding, caving, road cycling, mountain biking, horse riding.
Golf: Courses at Lannemezan/ Tarbes/ Pau/ Bagnères-de-Bigorre. Winter sports: skiing & snowboarding (nearest resort La Mongie – Barèges, is the biggest in the French Pyrenées), snow shoeing, cross country skiing, ice climbing. Tour de France: passing through Tarbes and the Pyrenées in July. Wildlife and nature: bird watching, wild flowers, butterflies. Historical towns: Tarbes, Lourdes, Pau, Auch. Châteaux: E.g. Château de Laas, Château de Pau, Château d'Arricau Bordes, Château de Mauvezin, Château de Tostat
Golf: Courses at Lannemezan/ Tarbes/ Pau/ Bagnères-de-Bigorre.
Ski: The nearest resort La Mongie - Barèges, is the biggest in the French Pyrenées. Cauterets is also easily accessible.
