About Karen Malsbury
My husband, Simon and I purchased the cottage in November of 2014. We wanted a space "Up North" that we could go to, to hang as a family and not be distracted by everyday life. Our 13 and 11-year-old daughters never complained about the 21/2 hour ride from Rochester to the cottage. Our Golden Retriever's Toby and Harper know as soon as we start packing that we are going to the Cottage. It's a great place to relax and watch the sunset over Lake George, snuggle by the fire and take advantage of the hiking, biking and recreational areas nearby.

Fun and Relaxing Family Getaway!
We were very impressed with the cottage and its location. Its nestled within a cottage community between two beautiful lakes. Our walks around the area were fabulous! We'd love to come back in the summer to enjoy the lake life. The purpose of our trip was to experience some kayaking and enjoy the fall colours. The home was perfect for a family of four. We enjoyed playing games of cards and watching some movies on one of the rain days. The kitchen was well stocked and everything was in excellent working order. The property was easy to find but hard to leave. We had a very relaxing time! We enjoyed the food at the tavern up the road one evening and also drove into Tawas City to dine at the microbrewery on the main road.
We are so glad you enjoyed your time up at the cottage. Best regards, Karen x
We were 6 adults and although the cottage can sleep 6, it's a little snug for that many in the rest of the space. But we called it "cozy." The neighborhood is very, very quiet. It was exactly what we expected and exactly what we were looking for! (Just so you know, the driveway is a little narrow; and definitely bring drinking water as Karen recommends.) Thanks, Karen. It was great! We will probably be back next year.
Glad you enjoyed the cottage. You are correct with your description of the driveway. We are on a Well so bottled water is a must. Cozy is correct. Less than 800 square feet. :-) hope to hear from you again soon.
Very nice property and great location! We were able to get to many different state parks and sites easily. Thank you for letting us stay in your cabin!
Glad you enjoyed the area. Hope to hear from you again.
Great place to stay!
Great affordable place to stay with near by lakes and dining . Description by the owner was spot on and all amenities were great.
Very peaceful and comfortable.
We needed a few days to relax in a quiet, peaceful setting and this was it. Perhaps being mid-week made a difference, but there were very few people around. Beach was empty, which we used both days. The house is rustic and comfortable. We appreciated having our dog with us, as she needed the excitement. A very good trip. Thank you Karen!
Glad you had a lovely relaxing time away. Shady shores is a nice quiet place during the week. Hope to hear from you again.
My sisters & I were able to meet there & spend time together!! Lots of laughs!
We especially enjoyed the area having spent time in Shady Shores as children. The cottage was quite comfortable. There was no tv but there were many dvd’s available. Because the water wasn’t the best, we did bring our own.
Glad you had a lovely weekend with your sisters. We do not have access to cable up at the cottage however there is internet streaming if you have a netflicks / hulu or vudu account. We are on a well so yep, bring your own water. Even my dogs won't drink it. :-)
