Clean, comfortable, and quiet

  • 4 of 5

I was looking for a place near Presque Isle that was clean, comfortable, and quiet. I was not disappointed! The property was exactly as advertised.

Since I did not have a car, I was also relieved to find this property conveniently located near a few stores and restaurants.

I opted for renting linens and was pleased that the owner not only had them waiting for me when I arrived but even had the bed made. This was much appreciated as I arrived at 3:00 am and was exhausted.

I am already looking forward to booking this property again.

Perfect location!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Dan was easy to talk to and we never had any issues at all from start to Finnish. The house was perfect for us. We are a family of 4 two adults two children ages 6 months and 5 years old. There's duct tape that holds the rug and other things together but doea not affect the stay at all. The couchs were also a bit uncomfortable. But the house in general is good. It worked for us loved the laundry especially with 2 kids. The full size fridge and stove huge plus. We would defiantly go back there again. Super close to everything if you want that this is the place for you!!!!

Owner's Response: Ashley and Dave are great guests...such cheerful and positive people. And wow, do they ever leave a home nice and clean! I think I should post some photos of the carpet-to-hard surface flooring transitions...yes (ha ha), we chose to use colorful "decorator" duct tape versus those raised strips that are typically used. So we use bright yellow, aqua blue, etc...fun and beach-like colors. Also, works great for smoother transitions from carpet to vinyl flooring or joining carpet sections...lots easier for pushing strollers or wheeled luggage across transition areas. It also allows for quicker transitions of carpet switch-out sections. Anyway, Ashley and Dave are welcomed back anytime...very respectful of property and easygoing nature.

rustic and servicable

  • 3 of 5

Dan was friendly and helpful throughout the process from the booking of the cottage rental all the way through till we "checked out". We had a few issues upon arrival such as the fridge not being on and there not being any bedding. Dan dealt with both issues right away. The cottage itself is a bit rough but it was clean, very reasonably priced and close to all of the attractions we wanted to see in Erie. As long as you are not expecting a hotel quality space then you will be happy with this rental. We were a bit surprised that the place is held together with duct tape (the carpets are taped down, the floor tile is edged in duct tape, the rough ends of the wood paneling in the bedroom etc...). The weather was neither hot nor cold so we didn't use the AC or the heat so we can't comment on how well they work. The bathtub is old and stained enough that we didn't want to give our kids a bath in it. We all showered and we held the baby in the shower, but the water was hot and plentiful and the pressure was good. The wifi was strong and the TV was new and had full cable.

This is a great rental for a couple or a small group of young adults who are not looking for luxury and enjoy convenience. Dan was a pleasure to work with.

Owner's Response: We certainly enjoyed having you as guests and your kids were cute as could be. When you arrived, I felt sorry for you that you had not brought your own bed linens as 90% of other guests choose to do...versus us providing it all for an added service fee. This information is within the website listing descriptions and is always discussed upfront. We talked 4-5 times between booking and travel. So I ran out and bought several brand new sets of bedding, pillows, etc, for this guest family...didn't charge a penny for it all... and even went the extra step of buying these really cool looking kid-loving soft blankets...one with a very colorful, vibrant graphic of puppies, and the other one with really cool panda bear cubs in a bamboo patch. The kids loved them. The refrigerator was simply a re-plug in, very quick fix. The bathtub is always extremely clean and is washed constantly, including attempts with every stain remover under the sun. It is VERY clean...but the stain does not remove (hard water?)...it poses no functional problem, but maybe some of that "liquid porcelain" epoxy could solve that problem? We'll check into that. Never had a complaint about it from 35+ prior guest groups, but I do acknowledge it could/should possibly be remedied. In any case, this Toronto-based family is respectful of the home and neighborhood and is welcomed back any time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at COTTAGE BUNGALOW. Talk about a low-maintenance guest group...these are seasoned veteran travelers (though only lower middle age). Left the home in excellent condition.

Affordable small family home close to Presque Isle

  • 5 of 5

My wife and kids had a wonderful stay in Erie. Dan is an awesome guy and I would rent from him again. We had a key problem upon arrival and it was fixed in no time. This house is great for a small family or couple. As Dan told me it's not a Taj Mahal it's a nice quite little rental. I had a brief conversation with the neighbors and it seems to be a friendly neighborhood. Plenty of places to eat near by if you don't want to cook. There's also a nice little fire pit in the backyard. We brought our 21' boat as well and there was just enough room to park it off street infront of this property. we can't wait to visit Erie again

Owner's Response: Wow, let me tell you how dedicated this young family is to each other. Though based in Pittsburgh, the young, hearty, enterprising father takes on alternating month's-long work stints at Alaska's North Slope to bring extra income level into the household. His adventure just to get home in time for this little family get away to Presque Isle Peninsula was like something out of a movie...ever seen "Plains, Trains, and Automobiles"? This young dad spent a Herculean 24+ hours worth of plane break downs, reschedules, oddball re-routing, you name it, just to get back to Pittsburgh to join his cheerful wife and kids and get on the road to a modest summer vacation. He came with boat trailered and all stocked and ready to also spend boat-hosting time with other family members who live in this area. He/they must have been somewhat exhausted, but recovered fast and made the utmost of their time together. I hope everyone is doing good. This is what you think of as the rugged individual American spirit. They all left the home and yard in very good condition, and were very neighbor-respectful in the efficient, expert handling of their trailered boat.
