3 bedroom house sleeps 4/6 in stunning tranquil valley location

'The Old School House' is a beautifully renovated village schoolhouse, located amongst the green hills of Asturias in N Spain, with its own sunny secluded orchard and brook

Nestled in a small valley, above the village of Espinaredo (Famed for rural architecture), the property provides a perfect location for all Asturias has to offer.

Relax in the private 2 acre orchard, on the banks of your own crystal clear stream or use the house as a perfect location for enviable holiday combinations: Hill walking, sandy beaches, bird watching, surfing, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, or sightseeing, shopping in places such as Gijon, Oviedo, Picos De Europa, Covadonga.

The area is home to stunning countryside, amazing cities,coast & mountains, historical architecture, an irresistible choice of restaurants, cider bars, cafes and chic shops in Oviedo/Gijon All this is so easy to reach using Brittany Ferries, RyanAir or EasyJet. Planes are now flying from London, Manchester and Bristol. THE HOUSE IS FULLY REGISTERED WITH THE ASTURIAN TOURIST BOARD.

This house has been beautifully renovated, and the superb quality of the furnishings reflect its exquisite surroundings.

With 3 bedrooms, the property sleeps 4 to 6 people in comfort, although we prefer to let to 4 people. Full C/H, and radiators throughout, triple glazed windows, a spiral staircase, wooden and tiled floors and wooden shutters on all windows, the house is cosy & warm in any weather.

The lounge/dining area is open plan with a gorgeous leather 'L' shaped seating area in front of a ornamental stone fireplace.

The fully equipped kitchen area has all the day to day essentials that any aspiring cook could need, and with a weekly fresh produce market in the local village on Mondays, creating a feast of local fare should be the least of your worries, great area for foodies.

3 bedrooms are located at the top of the ornate spiral staircase, two doubles and one twin, all with lovely views and the main bedroom with its own balcony.

The house also has 2 shower rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs.

The house is also equipped with Spanish FREEVIEW TV including Some UK TV channels. Sky Sports and Movies are NOT included or available.

The house has a washing machine and tumble dryer in a seperate annexe, these are included in the rental. Powders and conditioners are NOT included.

For your safety, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers are fitted throughout the house in case of emergency.

Just a stroll down the leafy lanes is the pretty village of Espinaredo, with some of the best preserved Horreos or barns in Spain, the little bar also serves a very pleasant tapas. This village is very famous for its architecture, and was recently featured on the BBC programme 'Escape to the Continent'.

5km beyond you will find the outstanding restaurant La Vega (Lo De Pelayo), situated on the left just before you meet the main Infiesto road.

With its wonderful menu bristling with freshly caught and grilled local fish, venison or wild boar, this is a restaurant not to miss. Make sure you try the spider crab when in season.

A super 3 course evening meal with drinks and coffee will cost you around € 30 pp. RECOMMENDED.

2 km further on lies the bustling local town of Infiesto, which offers everything from delicious home made pastries, to supermarkets, to kayak hire.

The weekly farmers market takes place on Mondays. Infiesto has everything you need and more; banks, PO, chemist, medi-centre, police station, fuel, train stations.

About Marc

Having both lived abroad at various times in our careers, we both settled on having property in the beautiful concejo of Pilona in the Principality of Asturias in Northern Spain. We fell in love with the property and the surrounding orchard and hillsides on our first visit, a decision we have never regretted.

We just wanted to say what a wonderful time we had in this beautiful home. The owners have taken such care with the place, and we had absolutely everything we needed. The grounds and orchard were amazing, as was the surrounding area in general. Two horses moved into the field next door to the house, so we had extra friends for the week. The kids loved feeding them apples from the trees in the garden!! We had a lovely time, and the great weather really helped too. We did many trips to various beaches in the area - each one as beautiful and stunning as the next.

The owners also topped off our stay with a welcome bottle of complimentary Rioja, which was very well received when we arrived.

We thoroughly recommend The Old Schoolhouse, and will be coming back soon.

Relaxing

Our French family stayed last July in the Old School. We enjoyed our stay. The surrounding nature, the house itself with the quality of its equipments: books, cooking. We really felt like in our own holiday cottage. Kids enjoyed the river, fruit from the trees and the big garden to play. For the parent, view from the balcony is so relaxing when you have the opportunity to observe wild animals. You must go there for the surrounding nature, the quality of the house... We definitively recommend that house.

Utter bliss in Asturias

Our third visit to The Old Schoolhouse and we have enjoyed it as much as ever. Beautifully presented and well-equipped, it is hard to imagine a more tranquil, relaxing place. And there has even been a major improvement to the road surface of the single-track lane that leads to the house! Great weather and always a delight to revisit the friendly little town of Infiesto close by. This year we went to Llanes on the coast for the first time and enjoyed it very much. It can be crowded with people out of Madrid in the high summer but at other times you can find parking quite readily and it's free. Less than two hours from the ferry at Santander, the house was a real haven after weeks of non-stop drilling at a property development opposite our home in crowded, noisy south-east England. Many thanks to Mark and Lisa once again. We will go back next spring.

An Asturian Dream.

This little house was a dream come true. Beautifully and thoughtfully equipped and in a fantadtic location, we were soothed to sleep each night by the sweet steam, spent peaceful days relaxing in the garden or exploring the stunning surroundings. Even a spot of jam making using plump golden plums from the fruit trees! Utterly blissful way to unwind and forget our hectic lifestyles in a magical and rural retreat. We WILL be back!.

Another great week at the Old School House

This was our second stay at the Old School House, an absolute gem in a beautiful hidden valley not far from the very pleasant Asturian town of Infiesto. A small mountain river runs through the garden and the views are magnificent. Generally the only sounds are of running water and cow bells - and sometimes the mooing of cows. They are the only other life (apart from horses) regularly going up and down the narrow (and increasingly potholed, it has to be said) lane. Perhaps best not to take your prize Porsche, unless you are comfortable having it surrounded by large cattle with very big horns! Nearby there are lovely, deserted beaches, stunning mountain scenery and the fine city of Oviedo, the Asturian capital. Worth the fabulous drive alone is a visit to Leon, and the city itself, with its superb cathedral is most pleasing. Don't come to this part of Spain without a phrase book, and, if possible, a little Spanish, though everyone is most friendly and helpful. Above all, if you like all day breakfasts and sunburnt, drunken Brits, this area is definitely not for you. But if you want lovely scenery, tranquillity and great food, this is definitely the place to be.

beautiful house in beautiful setting

The school house is a beautiful property in a really beautiful area of Spain. The owners are very prompt in replying to any inquiries and queries you might have.

It is a very homely home from home, well equipped and has got a large garden with orchard. Our kids (5 and 3) enjoyed splashing about in the stream.

From the house you can easily make day trips to the stunning mountains of Picos de Europa and to the lovely beaches at the coast (Vega beach was our favourite for surfing). You're only 20-30 min away from Ariondas where you can organise all sorts of outdoor activities.

There are some supermarkets in Infiesto which is about a 10min drive from the house

We can recommend this place if you are looking for a rustic holiday in a quite location with amazing scenery.

Secluded and comfortable amid beautiful valley

The house is well equipped and very comfortable. It is sited next to a narrow road that serves a few houses further up the valley, so traffic is minimal - more likely to be cows than cars. There are great views from the front and side down and across a picturesque valley that is lush and secluded. The house has an adjacent mown orchard area which slopes down to a mountain stream with big boulders, where we splashed about to cool down in the hot weather. My only observation is that if you have small children, you need to be out in the orchard area to supervise as the house does not overlook it and it is gated. Our children are teenagers so this was not an issue. Facilities are in Infiesto which is about 10km away. Beaches, mountains and museums etc all within easy driving distance as well as glorious walks on the doorstep. Owners were very helpful and provided local information.

Quad trekking: The most exciting way to see Asturias. We use Jaire Aventura. They are superb, and very safety conscious. Quads cost approx € 40 per hour, the 2hr trek is great.

Jaire also provide canoes, bikes, buggies and horses.

Skiing: Picos de Europa.

Surfing: On one of many local beaches.

Birdwatching: The hills are full of wonderful birds and condors.

Canoeing: Ribadesella hosts a major world canoe championship every year.

Football: Visit Sporting Gijon or Racing Santander of the Primera Liga.

Mountain Walking: Locally and in the Picos De Europa. Pony Trekking.

Mountain Biking: Bikes available to hire in many places inc. 'The Valley of the Bears'.

Fishing.

Other Activities: Quad Trekking, Pony Trekking, Canoeing/Kayaking

Golf: There are 4 or 5 nice courses within easy driving distance, at least three of those are on the coast with great sea views.

Ski: There are two ski stations in the Picos no more than 90 min from the house.

Notes:
The property has a delightful gently sloping garden/orchard of approx 2 acres, which leads down to a small bubbling mountain river. The garden has plenty of solar lights for summer evenings. Sunbeds, outside eating area, etc are provided, as are a number of outdoor games for the younger visitors i.e. Swing ball, badminton etc. Plenty of areas in sun or shade, totally private and simply beautiful.
