About Erin VanDyke

I grew up in Lyman, just up the street from me and Tammi's vacation rental. After I finished college me and the family move back to Wayne County and lived there for 9 years. We would love to still be living there, but we had to move to Whiterocks Utah for work related reasons. I love the area surrounding Lyman, because there is so many unique areas to see that it is hard to decide what to do.

Erin VanDyke purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Erin VanDyke chose Lyman

This property always interested me. Every time I rode past on my bicycle I always thought it would be neat to live there. My childhood dream was realized when me and my wife were able to buy this home. This home also come with a history of my ancestors and the community they lived in. We are simple folk, meaning we like the simple life and enjoy the outdoors. The cabin feel of this home with its high ceiling and wood paneling helps me feel more connected to the landscape. Every chance I get to return home, I feel like i'm greeted by a dog that hasn't seen his owner for a while.

What makes this cabin unique

Some of the benefits of this home I really find enjoyable are:

The big windows in the kitchen that you can look out while enjoying your breakfast. There is also lots of counter space. The living room is really big, you and your family and friends can all sit together. The outdoor space is really enjoyable. There is a mini orchard in the yard. Some of the fruit trees are really old but are able to produce some wonderful fruit. I use to hang my hammock between the cottonwood trees and take a nap on a warm Sunday afternoon. In the springtime the lilac bushes will bloom and it is a beautiful sight and the smells are wonderful. The large cottonwood trees in the yard provide a lot of shade in the summertime. I also love to open the windows at night in the summer. Lyman has a great climate it is never too hot in the summer where you would need an air conditioned home. It can get a little hot during the summer days but with the windows open at night it can cool off the house. I love the rural area our house is located in. I have also enjoyed being close to the mountains and the desert. Being here, both place are a short drive away. Of course, I miss living here. But I hope my guests can find our home as enjoyable as I do.

Wonderful, spacious home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time at this home while exploring Capitol Reef. More than enough room for our family of 6 (4 kids ages infant to 7 years). The kids loved the games downstairs and the owners had many thoughtful touches. Would recommend wholeheartedly!

The house is wonderful! We stayed almost a full week for our daughters wedding at Capital Reef. All the family really enjoyed the spacious room to visit, play games, puzzles, and such. Grandma’s treats were enjoyed by all

If we ever come back we will consider staying here again!!

Very comfortable home with everything one could need...a great big cabin! Perfect location for access to Capitol Reef NP also. Thank you, Marielyn, for your trip guidance and also your yummy Chex mix...and the recipe, too!

This house was very homey; but, a little out of the way...a little far from the Capital Reef national park that we were visiting. The rooms were a little "tired" but comfortable. Our biggest challenge was finding how to locate the house. I think that Erin should include better instructions on how to get to the back door entrance, which is accessible from a different street than the address. Erin did leave us Grandma's recipe for the tasty treats that and a batch to munch on. Yum!

Owner's Response: The address have been confusing for some of my guests. Just recently I have been including a better description of directions to our house after you arrive in Lyman.

Lots of room

Great place to crash after a long day at Capital Reef. It was a little difficult to find in the dark, but that was our fault.

Lyman is a small town. It is a great place to relax and escape. You will have to travel to the surrounding communities to find restaurants and other services. Lyman has a public park and church. At the park you will find basketball courts, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, baseball field, child playground, and large open grass lawn for what ever else you want to do. Some local restaurants I would recommend is the Country Cafe in Loa, it serves breakfast all day and is a great place for a burger and homemade pie. The Sunglow in Bicknell is also another great place; it is a family style restaurant with specialty pies, such as pickle, pinto, lemon custard, oatmeal, and other favorites. Torrey is a great place with numerous restaurants, evening programs, book stores, gift shops, art studios, farmers market, bar, and outdoor gear rental.
