Perfect for a Romantic Getaway Off of the Beaten Path, On the Wooded Lake Shore.

Are you looking for a romantic getaway? Do you want to be off the beaten path and have a beautiful, peaceful place nestled in the tall pines on a lakeshore of Northern Wisconsin but still have easy, paved access to the highway? Visit us!

We are family owned and operated and have been in the accommodations business since 1990, beginning with our 6 tourist cabins near Denali National Park in Alaska, where we built our first home. We were raised in Central and Northern Wisconsin. We know how to treat our guests and provide what you are looking for to have the perfect "getaway." Our lake is crystal clear with sandy beaches and excellent fishing.

This is a "mother-in-law" SUITE above our attached garage, with your own private stairway entry, private bath with shower/sink/toilet, 1 Queen size bed and a kitchenette, dining area and reading chair. It has most everything that you will need. We provide the towels and linens! You must be able to climb a rather steep stairway to your entrance.

*** Nonsmoking. No pets. 2-3 Night Minimum Stay ****

Free Wi-Fi and Samsung LED Smart TV for live streaming TV apps and online sites. Satellite DirectTV will be installed mid May 2018.

The Suite is not large enough to have a 3rd person in the room.

We have been renting out the Suite during the summer, on a nightly basis, since 2012. We are fully licensed, permitted and inspected by the Lincoln County health department and we collect the state and county sales tax of 5.5%. We are open Mid May - early/mid October. We are easy to find and are accessible by highway. Our 0.10 mile driveway is entirely paved.

You may bring food and cook using the microwave and outside natural gas grill.


PLEASE - NO hotplates, electric frying pans or other cooking appliances are allowed inside the suite due to their fire hazard and insurance liability.

Our well water is super good tasting and healthy. It is tested annually by the Lincoln County Health Department and has always been negative. No need to bring bottled water and add to earth's plastic waste! We also use the Culligan water system to soften the water and remove minerals.

We do not provide meals but there is tea, coffee, oatmeal, granola bars, etc.

There are many WI Supper Clubs, Bar & Grills and a wonderful Ice Cream Parlor, and Coffee place nearby.

The apartment is tastefully decorated with custom made furniture and Northwoods decor.

Books, magazines, standard DVD player, DVD's, numerous board games, cards, and information on local sites, activities, trails and restaurants.

DIRECTV will be available mid May 2018. Samsung 32" LED Smart TV with a standard DVD player. Numerous Apps via the Smart TV are available including Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, games, etc. via live video streaming. There is a Redbox movie outlet in Tomahawk at Nelson's County Market. We also have some DVD's in the apartment.

In the Suite, you may share a land line phone with us. It has free unlimited long distance within the US.

Cell phone reception can be spotty depending on your carrier - best reception may be outside.

Lake Size: 156 Acres. Maximum Depth 62 feet. Natural spring fed lake. 3 miles of shoreline.

Lake Notes: Specializing in Northern Pike, Muskie and Bluegill. Walleye, Large & Smallmouth Bass and panfish are also numerous. We are on a chain of lakes. Deer Lake connects to Bridge Lake & Lake Nokomis (The Rice Reservoir) via a channel which is usually navigable through early-mid July. After that, the water level in the channel may be too low to get through with a motor. Usually, we can still kayak through. If you are planning on bringing your own boat, please let us know and ask us about the water level if it is important to you to get into Lake Nokomis.

We have 3, 1-person kayaks and a 2-person canoe available for your free use along with life jackets. Swimming, canoeing and kayaking are at your own risk. You will be asked to sign a recreational liability waiver before arrival. Please hand this in at check in.

Boats, Pontoon Boats and Personal Watercraft rentals are available at Tomahawk Sports Center in Tomahawk - 4 miles south. We do not allow usage of any motorized boats that we own.

Centerstone Resort is 2.5 miles away and has paddle boards available for rent.

We have our own personal bikes that you may use at your own risk - just ask us about them. We are not tall people so they might be too short for you. We do not provide bike helmets.

Usually, we have plenty of room available on the beach or dockside if you bring a boat. There is a nearby boat ramp on the lake and a couple on Lake Nokomis. Please let us know if you are bringing a boat.

We live in the private main house year round and will usually be on property.

No public transportation is available. There is a taxi service in Tomahawk but I don't know how reliable they are. You will need to have your own vehicle or motorcycle.

If you bring a motorcycle or two, we can provide garage space for them.

There is a family house dog on the property but she is never allowed inside the apartment. Lexi is a very loving, people-friendly Goldendoodle (half golden retriever, half standard poodle) who doesn't shed and is nonallergenic. Lexi was born in 2010.

We encourage you to walk the numerous trails that we created throughout our 7+ acres and our additional 12 acres nearby on Wurl Rd. You will always hear or see wildlife and birds to view and photograph.

You are welcome to be anywhere outside on the property grounds. The grounds and the suite are for your use. The main house and garages are private. You can use all outdoor tables, chairs, fire pit, 3 kayaks up on the kayak stand, canoe, grill, dock, deck, and patios. Walk around the property!

You may interact with us as much or as little as you prefer! We will respect your privacy and allow you to have the vacation that you deserve and want. One of us is usually here. You can ring the doorbell, text or call us or find us outside.

About Shirley and Monte Lamer

Year round residents as of November 2016.

Monte "retired" in 2016. He has a long history of working in the field of power generation. Coal and natural gas fired power plants and Biogas/Digesters.

I am an inactive RN and do not work outside of this business.

Our children were born in Fairbanks, Alaska. We raised a son and a daughter who are both in their 20's. Our daughter lives and works in MN and our son is working at a salmon fish hatchery outside of Sitka, Alaska on Baranof Island.

We have a long history of providing lodging for tourists. Monte was raised on a nearby lake resort, where his Dad still lives. The resort has been in continuous operation since the 1930's. We have provided lodging to tourists since we were married in 1989, first in Alaska for 9 years with 6 cabins for visitors to Denali National Park and now here in northern Wisconsin.

We love to travel and stay in family owned/operated rentals as much as possible. We meet new friends when we travel and we hope you will too, with us!

Why Shirley and Monte Lamer chose Tomahawk

Monte purchased this land in 1988, the year before we were married. He was living in Alaska, since 1975, after he graduated from Tomahawk HS. Monte's paternal great grandfather, owned a majority of the property on the eastern Deer Lake shoreline along Deer Lake Road and on other local lakes. His cousins inherited or purchased some of the land later on. Monte was raised here, a half mile down the back road on the next lake west - Crystal Lake. His great grandparents, then his grandparents and now his Dad, still own and operate the family resort - Pine Cone Ranch Resort.

I started coming to the Tomahawk area with my family when I was 8 years old in 1967. My parents had cottages on Lake Nokomis and we would come up every weekend and all summer. My family met Monte's family that first year.

When we married in 1989, I moved to Alaska from Madison, WI. Monte had already built a home and 2 rental cabins on his 12 acres of land in Healy, just outside of Denali National Park. The following year we opened Healy Heights Family Cabins and built 4 more cabins for tourist lodging. We owned and operated the business for 9 years and were full from May thru September with up to 28 guests a night. In 1998, we sold everything and moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to family. That was when we started to use this lake property with our young children then aged 3 and 7. We purchased a travel trailer and stayed in it for a few years when we were up north, before we custom built this lake home in 2003.

What makes this studio unique

This is a peaceful, quiet setting in the woods and on the lake with nature and it's sounds all around. It is a beautiful property and we love to share it with others. You will feel like you are in your own little world here and life's stresses will be forgotten when you drive down our long winding driveway to this sanctuary. It is our little slice of heaven, away from it all. During the long cold winters when the lake is frozen over, we put out our ice fishing shack and enjoy family and friends.

When the loons return as soon as the lake opens up in April, we love to hear their variety of calls, knowing that they are back with us again. We excitedly search for the presence of their baby chicks on their backs while gliding through the water. It is always a very welcomed sight to see that they have hatched another chick or two.

The smell of camp fires, the sounds of frogs and crickets at night, crows cawing in the morning, pileated woodpeckers drilling a tree, seeing eagles flying overhead, tall pine forests and enjoying clear lakes are all part of our love of living up north at the lake.

My favorite times of the day are early morning just after sunrise and dinner time just before sunset. Watching the sunset over the lake from the dock, is very special along with watching the fish surface on calm-water evenings and the great blue heron, bald eagles, deer, rare black bear, ducks, loons and geese going about their day. Nature abounds here. You will feel the draw and hopefully become a part of it also. There is something very special about being "up north at the lake."

The pictures don't do the apartment or area justice. It's a beautiful place on a beautiful property...fancier than what the pictures reveal. The apartment has a kitchen, dining area, sitting area, bed and bath. The family was very friendly and willing to help out or answer any questions we had. They were very willing to share their wonderful property and access to Deer Lake. We biked and kayaked each day we were there. We would recommend the stay at the apartment to any couple that wanted a place to stay in the Deer Lake or Tomahawk area. Happy Vacationing!

Deer connects to Bridge Lake & Lake Nokomis (The Rice Reservoir) via a man-made channel which is usually only navigable through early-mid July. After that, the water level in the channel MAY be too low to get through with a motor. Usually, we can still kayak through. You may bring your own boat. If you are planning on bringing a boat, please let us know and ask us if the channel is still navigable if it is important to you to be able to leave Deer Lake and get into Lake Nokomis. There are also boat landings on Lake Nokomis to trailer your boat to.

Cozy, Beautiful Northwoods Getaway!!!

Best place for a couple to unwind & get away from the crazy city! Shirley works so hard to make sure everything is perfect, & it shows. Not only is the suite immaculate & private, but the sheets are soft, the towels are thick & luxurious, & everything you’ll need is in the kitchenette & bathroom.

The bonus is you can walk the paths on the whole property, (which are all beautiful northwoods & nature) sit by the lake, or go canoeing, kayaking, & swimming should you choose to. There’s even a fire pit if you want to make s’mores. We had a very peaceful, relaxing time & enjoyed the restaurants & shops. It’s a great place to stay!!!

Randy and Kathy's stay at the Lamer Cottage Hide-away

Upon arrival, along with Shirley the owner, a big, nice friendly dog greeted us .... we came to expect seeing her throughout the weekend :). This property is gorgeous and very welcoming, pristinely groomed .... abundant flower displays, well-tended plants, nice walking paths, multiple lovely sitting areas, canoes and kayaks for use, and surrounding woods all perfectly manicured and tastefully adorned. Right down to the miniature sandy beach and the dock/clean with nice seating, everything was perfect and beautiful, including the lake, beaconing one to linger for hours. The suite was cozy and comfortable, impressively furnished, wonderfully decorated, with ample accommodations. Skylights displaying towering pines above were a nice touch! Monte and Shirley were fabulous hosts, interesting people.... we very much enjoyed getting acquainted and visiting with them, and sharing a meal one evening. Their home is positively stunning. We'd come back here in a heartbeat. It is truly an up-north gem amidst the beauty of thick coniferous surroundings at the gorgeous shores of Deer Lake that connect up other lakes with their islands and waterways. Fun nearby towns and eateries are plentiful as well. What a place to spend a long weekend, or any weekend. Thanks, Monte and Shirley (and Lexi the dog :) See you again!

Perfect Piece of Paradise

This was our 50th wedding anniversary and what a perfect setting. The suite is spotless and stocked to meet your needs. There is a kayak, and canoe as well as fishing off dock with a great little table & chairs to accommodate. Also a beautiful fire pit to relax after evening dinner. We loved the setting and hope to return next year!

Another Great Stay at The Lamer Cottage!!

This was our second stay at The Lamer Cottage and we were again impressed with the level of class and quality Shirley provides her guests during their stay. As a frequent business traveler I can confirm that no amenity or detail is overlooked here. The suite has an elegant charm upon entering and gives you a feeling of home that a hotel simply cannot provide. The landscaping is truly incredible, with a dock space that invites you to enjoy the sounds of the loons on the lake and stone fire pit that welcomes you at the end of a perfect day. We look forward to visiting again and highly encourage others to visit this one as well. Thanks again Shirley!

Lots to do! Visit the online Tomahawk Chamber website for more info along with our Guide Book and other online searches before your arrival.

There are numerous ATV trails in Lincoln and the surrounding counties for your use. They allow ATV's in Tomahawk on designated city streets.

We are just 1.7 miles off the Bearskin State Park Trail and Hiawatha Trail for Biking, hiking and Snowmobiling! Easy to access from our property for a day of biking. We have personal bikes that our guests may use around the property/area.

Motorcyclists love to ride the back roads of northern WI. The Annual Harley Davidson Fall Ride for MDA is in mid September which draws thousands of motorcycles to the area.

July 4th is a huge celebration along with Pow Wow Days, and every month has special events.

We are 4 miles north of Tomahawk, 17 miles west of Rhinelander, 25 miles south of Minocqua and close to many northwoods destinations.

MINIMUM AGE is 21 for all guests unless accompanied by a parent or adult over 21.

NO SMOKING inside the suite. You may smoke outside away from open doors and windows.


We ask that you please REMOVE YOUR FOOTWEAR when you enter the suite. There is constant pine tree sap on the grounds, along with other natural debris. We don't want it to get on the carpet and bedding.

NO CANDLES, INCENSE or other open flame items. NO FIREWORKS.

NO ILLEGAL DRUGS. If you drink alcohol, please drink responsibly. There are steep stairs to your suite!

NO FISH CLEANING inside the suite. Please ask us and we will show you a suitable spot and provide waste supplies. With a dog, we cannot have any fish parts thrown into the woods or she will definitely find them...and then roll in them.

A Wisconsin Fishing License is required to fish in WI. You can purchase a 24 hour license via the Wisconsin DNR online web page or locally.

LIFE JACKETS need to be with you when using our KAYAKS and CANOE. It is a WI boating law. You do not have to wear it but it has to be on the boat. For your safety, we ask that you wear the life jacket. If the DNR are on the lake, they can fine you if you do not have one with you on the boats. Any fines are fully payable by the guest and not the responsibility of the property/boat owner.

KAYAKING, CANOEING & SWIMMING are at your own risk and the property owners do not take personal responsibility or liability for your safety. There is no life guard. You will be asked to sign a liability waiver at check in.

We do not provide housekeeping. There is NO DAILY MAID SERVICE. The suite is thoroughly cleaned and ready for you before your arrival and then it is cleaned upon your departure. We respect your privacy, so there are no interruptions!

No glassware outside or at the lake. Please use only plastic or paper, especially at the lake.
Please do your dishes and clean up after yourselves. We sincerely hope that you will leave the suite like you found it.
