About the property

Dornie Lodges

When we first saw the site where Dornie Lodges now stand, we realised it had everything we were looking for.

It was right beside a West-Highland sea-loch with views over the loch to the surrounding hills and across to Skye.

So it was very scenic, but also very accessible, as it was only a few minutes walk from the village pub and hotel along the road by the side of the loch, and a few minutes further to the famous castle at Eilean Donan.

And it was ideally situated for enjoying the many surrounding mainland hills, mountains and lochs, and was also only 10 miles from the bridge to the Isle of Skye.

To make the most of the landscape they needed to feature large areas of glass facing the views, so we had local architects Dualchas design the 3 houses with large expanses of glass so that it feels like you are actually part of the landscape even when inside the houses.

And that is how Lochside, Larchwood, and Burnside Lodges came about, we look forward to welcoming you here.

The Dornie Local Area – Lochalsh and Skye

You’ll never be stuck for places to visit and things to do during your visit to Dornie Lodges.

Lochalsh and Skye is such a beautiful scenic area with a long tradition of tourism that visitors will find lots of facilities and attractions designed to help you get the most out of your visit.

Dornie Lodges is a great place to base yourself for your visit, being very central to both the mainland coastal areas and to the Isle of Skye.

In Dornie itself you can just admire the scenery by the loch, choose between easy walking or some fairly arduous hikes, visit the world-famous Eilean Donan Castle, eat out at two excellent local pubs, visit a good local cafe, and just enjoy rural village life.

Further afield you can enjoy world-class scenery, build a serious thirst on the hills and mountains, visit castles and a distillery, and take interesting and spectacular boat trips.

Breath taking views and fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

Fully equipped cottage with all the amenities. Clean, bright, comfortable and in a great location in Dornie. About a 15 minute walk to Eilean Donan Castle. 30 minute drive to Ilse of Skye.

The owner gave us a very detailed package regarding the cottage and was very thorough. Would stay there again in a heartbeat if ever on that side of the pond.

Quality Accommodation In A Tranquil Setting

Dornie Lodges are self catering holiday homes in the West Highland village of Dornie, picturesquely situated at the junction of Loch Duich, Loch Alsh, and Loch Long and some 10 miles from Kyle of Lochalsh, the main crossing point to the Isle of Skye.

Dornie village centre is only about ten minutes walk along the shore of Loch Long and has a well-stocked village shop, the Dornie Hotel which has a restaurant and public bar with good bar meals, a pub called The Clachan Bar which provides excellent beer and very good meals in the bar. A 5-minute walk across the bridge takes you to the Loch Duich hotel with a public bar and more good food. Dornie's most famous landmark is the world-renowned Eilean Donan Castle, star of screen, calendar and shortbread box. The castle is only a few minutes walk from the village centre.

Stunning Scenery & Walks

The surrounding loch and mountain scenery is absolutely superb, and there is easy access to all grades of walking and climbing for the energetically inclined. Easy lochside and riverside walks start right on the doorstep, and a wealth of more challenging hillwalking is available within a few miles, with the Five Sisters of Kintail and Glenshiel to the South, A visit to Eilean Donan Castle is a must though, as are the Iron Age brochs at Glenelg from where you can also still experience a short ferry trip across to Skye. You can go horse-riding locally, and visit Lochalsh Woodland Garden at Balmacara. There are interesting boat trips from Kyle of Lochalsh and Plockton, each only a few minutes' drive away.

Contemporary Rural Design

Lochside, Larchwood and Burnside Lodges are comfortable and spacious modern houses. The extensive use of glass in their design and construction gives holidaymakers constantly changing views of our beautiful lochside environment.
