Superbly restored croft house overlooking the White Sands of Morar

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Three bedrooms to sleep 8 in full-sized beds. Sky TV package & Free Wifi

Set in a commanding position overlooking the world famous White Sands of Morar, this luxury conversion of a former croft house sleeps up to 8 people in comfort and style.

The setting is idyllic with secluded beaches just over the hill and the ‘Local Hero’ beach at Camusdarroch nearby, while you pass the 'Harry Potter' viaduct at Glenfinnan en route from Fort William. The fishing port of Mallaig with its shops, seafood and other restaurants, bars and hotels is two miles away – the Morar Hotel and Bar a mile.

The area is ideal for walking, fishing and sailing. Golfers will enjoy the 9-hole course at Traigh, three miles away. Buzzards regularly patrol the skies above Bourblach and white-tailed sea eagles have been known to nest in the area.

Sail from Mallaig or Arisaig to explore Skye, Rum or Eigg. Board a high-speed inflatable to go whale spotting in season.

Morar is easily accessible by road from both Glasgow (150 miles) and Edinburgh (170) and by train, with the Fort William to Morar leg covered by a steam train during the summer months.

Bourblach is set in its own fenced off grounds in the midst of a working croft. The house nestles into the hillside, and enjoys truly spectacular views across the estuary of the River Morar with its white sands and ever-changing vista. The house itself is furnished and decorated to a very high standard. The accommodation consists of: An entry vestibule with an assortment of walking sticks, kites and a beach toy hamper.

The short hallway gives access to both the farmhouse style kitchen and the large living room/dining room. The kitchen has a pine table and an oil-fired Aga-style cooker. There is also a conventional electric cooker, microwave, huge fridge, washing machine and dishwasher. The living room has an open fire and the dining room table seats up to 12.

There is a family room off the kitchen with Sky TV, a sound system and bookcase. Between this room and the back door lies the ground floor bathroom with walk-in shower wc etc. Upstairs are the three large family sized bedrooms each with its own wash-hand basin. The bathroom has a slipper bath wc etc. There is double glazing throughout and full central heating. The kitchen and living room both have a French door leading to a small patio. There is a built-in bar-b-q and patio in the back garden, and a garden shed with patio furniture.

Fantastic Highlands Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The photos of Bourblach online don't do it justice. It is even more beautiful and more magical. It is a fantastic retreat, quite comfortable and cozy. The surrounding area, beaches, sheep, etc, were all breathtaking and added to the charm and delight of the property.

The house itself is extremely well situated and quite comfortable. Really felt like home.

We often just potted around the house and the local beaches or the nearby villages, but the house is close to Mallaig, where day trips to Skye and Knoydart are easy to take (and highly recommended). As a runner I appreciated the many options from the house.

John was very helpful and extremely easy to work with.

We arrived/departed by train and rented a car in Morar - very easy to arrange.

A week was not enough! Would love to go back!

A warm and cosy home in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

Our first glimpse of Bourblach was as we drove from Ft. William to Mallaig a few days before our rental began. We were astounded by the idyllic setting and were not disappointed when we arrived on Saturday to begin our two-week holiday.

The property felt like a home, not a rental. We found the surrounding beaches beautiful, secluded and rugged - perfect for exploring during low tide and scrambling over rocks during high.

The proximity to Mallaig made day trips to Skye and the Knoydart peninsula easy. Similarly, Arisaig and Camusdarach provided us with short outings for the morning or afternoon. Some days, we just stayed in and around the house.

You will not be disappointed with Bourblach. We will be back.

Another wonderful week

  • 5 of 5

Bourblach is everything you could possibly want from a holiday cottage in Scotland. Well equipped and breathtakingly sited with views over the clear blue sea and soft white sand. Our party ranged from seven to 70 and all had a brilliant holiday. We dearly hope to return once more, thanks for letting us share this amazing place!

An idyllic cottage

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved Bourblach cottage. It was truly the best family holiday imaginable. With the beach being so close you didn't actually have to go anywhere else. The house was very cosy and just what you would want for a family. When the sun was shining there was nowhere in the world we would rather have been. We would definitely recommend this house to other people and hope to go back next year.

October half term

  • 5 of 5

The house is in a stunning location with wonderful views. We found everything we needed and enjoyed just getting away from it all. The dog loved it and finished each day exhausted. The coastline is lovely and we even managed to forage our last tea from the rock pools.

The only complaints came from a car sick daughter but you can't have everything.

Activities abound when based at Bourblach. But one of the house's prime assets is its peace and tranquility, a haven of beauty and serenity set in stunning scenery. It’s the ideal place to unwind, spoil for choice between eating out in nearby Mallaig and cooking some of the fresh-off-the-boat seafood available in Mallaig.

Bourblach is perfect for a traditional beach holiday with young children - its beaches are rated amongst the cleanest in Europe. It’s great for walking sailing, fishing or golfing for all ages. There are spectacular walks including one along the banks of Loch Morar, the deepest stretch of fresh water in Europe, and reputed home of Nessie’s sister Morag. Walkers can cut across the narrow isthmus to Loch Nevis and catch the MV Shearwater back to Morar. The Sheerwater can also be used for day trips to Inverie on Knoydart, location of the Old Forge, officially the most remote pub in Britain.
