Our private cabin has been in our family since 1970 and was one of the first 12 showcase cabins located in Beaver Valley right on the East Verde River. We are just outside of Payson Arizona by 8 paved miles. Beaver Valley is a 200 acre development surrounded by the 2,800,000 acre (1,170,000 hectare) Tonto National Forest. The cabin has been meticulously maintained to its original condition since new -both inside and out. We have a warm knotty pine interior and exterior, western couch and matching chairs which are in like new condition. There are original maps and an antique 1905 wind up wall mounted telephone for extra nostalgia. The cabin has delightful shade provided by trees some of which are 300 year old hardwoods. There is a new stone patio that is not shown in these pictures but overlooks the river just 75 feet away. The stone patio is perfect for a relaxing BBQ or to enjoy the cool breezes that come off the river. Each bedroom has windows that overlook the river which provides recreation, cool summer breezes and natural year round music. Access is available year round via paved roads.
There are miles and miles of trails into the forest and countless fishing holes for native rainbow trout (AZ fishing license required) along this exclusive unspoiled section of East Verde River. Hike the river to find your favorite fishing hole and catch your breakfast. Swim along the bank of the river or climb the giant Arizona sycamore trees. Take the day challenge to climb to up to the ancient caves perched 1000 feet above the cabin less than a mile away and see the splendor of the upland forest. Rally the kids to see ancient Indian ruins which are over 1000 years old and just three miles down the road. Consider using the cabin as a base-camp to explore the countless 4-wheel drive roads of the area. Drive up to the next crossing and then hike in to see the largest waterfalls on the East Verde River, which falls almost 4 stories ( ). Build sand castles in the privacy of your own backyard beach while taking in the abundant fresh air and peaceful solitude.
The cabin is a quaint two-bedroom one-bath configuration with a small stone covered patio at its side door with sleeping arrangements for 5. The furniture is rustic, comfortable and straight out of the wild-west. The kitchen includes a new refrigerator, microwave, and a 1965 era electric stove/oven in perfect shape and function.
The cabin is a great place for the whole family and especially young kids. There is a community field for out door activities immediately in front of the cabin and a fenced children’s play yard with a jungle gym, swings, teeter-toter, merry-go-round and more just a short 50 yards away. The back yard has a sandy section next to the river with ample sun and shade for kids to play and is one of the best fishing holes in the area. There is no internet service but cell phone access is available. Further, there is a color TV and Blue-Ray system but most families encourage playing games at night or reading the antique magazines. The Double-R Cabin is a great way to enable the family to go back in time to a simple lifestyle full of natural beauty and family fun.

We are a lover of all types nature and are tree enthusiasts. We are opening up our personal collection of vacation homes to select families that will take care of our place like it is their own. We have properties in California, Arizona and Texas. All are in the wilderness and are surrounded by trees idealized for quality family fun.
Doug Feece purchased this cabin in 1970
There property is all about family time, nature and access to it. We planted trees in the front yard 45 years ago that are providing delightful shade. We recently upgraded our railroad deck to one of native stone which is now bathed under refreshing natural shade. This property offers old fashioned American family fun.
River front surrounded by trees and nature. Easy access to the kids play ground or a large field for playing Frisbee. Next to one of the best fishing holes on the river. Only 1 1/2 hours from Phoenix and immediate access to 2.8 Million acres of natural forest.
Our family had a great time at this cabin! We have rented other cabins in the past but this one was the best because it was right on the river and had a fun charm about it both inside and out. The cabin had everything including extra blankets and even some fishing gear which the owner said we could use. The outdoor stone patio was beautiful and the weather was warm enough so that my husband cooked most of our meals outside. Our two young girls (6 and 8) loved the kids park and the large selection of family board games. They both want to come back in the spring. It was nice having family time and detoxing our girls from the TV and internet. Great place -thank you for sharing it with us.
We had a great time here - the cottage was clean, well situated and had everything we needed for our three day stay. It was so nice to open the windows and listed to the running water in the creek about 50 yards away. There is also a small dog park nearby for dog owners and the town is only about 15 minutes away. "Our" neighbor Tom was really friendly and helpful and even cut up some firewood for our stay -( thank you Tom). Definitely recommend and we hope to revisit sometimelater this year. Ian and Dan
We enjoyed our stay in the cabin overall. Very peaceful and forced us to put away our cell phones (as they didn't work) and no TV (as there is no cable). We did watch a couple of dvd's and my daughter enjoyed the park across the street. The cabin needs to be sprayed for bugs as there were spiders and spider webs everywhere. We did use and enjoy the fireplace and BBQ grill. The next door neighbor was very nice and helpful.
Great stay, location and cabin. We spent most of the time outside. Sits on the bank of the river, great community. Would stay again, and will most likely very soon. Tom the neighbor was very helpful.
The cabin itself is ok and as described , although the cabinets are sticky and the curtains look like they have never been washed . The overgrowth in the back lacks access to the creek in fact it can not even be seen from the bedrooms .
Our biggest issues was the shower . Although the cabin can accommodate five people the hot water only accommodates only two quick showers . You have to wait for hours for more hot water . Turning the water on and off is also a mission on its own , my husband had to do it for me and the kids .
The AC unit is in the living room only , needless to say that on hot summer days it doesn't do much for the bedrooms . The heater was also located in the living room only .
There is no working television as stated in the description and in order to get Internet or phone service you have to drive about twenty minutes into town .
We were looking forward to taking our kids and foster kids away for a few days and we have been saving for this trip for a while , I wish we never went .
I did in fact express our disappointment to the owner while we were there and all he had to say was that he was sorry it wasn't what we expected . It wasn't an expectation , it was what was promised in the description .
We enjoyed our recent stay at this cabin. The location was perfect, right on the river which was great for our family. We enjoyed walking in the evenings and the short drive to woods canyon lake one day for some excellent fishing. The cabin was well stocked and comfortable for our family of 3. It was right across the street from the playground which was perfect for our son. We look forward to our next time renting.
This was the perfect little cabin for our family of 4 and 2 dogs. Our criteria was for a cabin near Payson that allowed the dogs and was on a river or creek. We narrowed down to 3 that were available during the timeframe in which we were looking. The kids looked at pictures of each of them and selected this one (over another with a game room and other with a waterfall!). They loved the classic-style cabin look and feel of this place and the patio. When we arrived, it was exactly as expected and very cozy.
The kitchen had the basic supplies needed including trash bags and paper towels. We brought our own condiments and a few snacks and bought food for meals in Payson after we settled in a bit. It was only about 10min to the nearest grocery store. The grill was very clean and worked well for cooking all our dinners. We spent most of our time playing cards or board games on the patio table, reading and fishing. We didn't catch anything but had a great time at the fishing hole down the street (very short walk) and at the crossings further down the main road.
It was great to get away and enjoy the simple pleasures and family time.
For your packing list, I'd recommend extra towels for use outside (especially with kids and dogs!), BBQ tongs if you're a serious griller, and a few camping chairs for the kids out fishing.
