About Liz Fletcher

We are a family of three. I moved to Tucson 30 years ago from Ashland, Or. I have lived in Washington, northern California, the White Mountains of Arizona, and Canada in younger days. In the 1970's I worked as a musician, living in Costa Rica and then in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico in 1990. My husband, a former Motown musician, and I met playing together in a Tucson Blues band. He is now retired for health reasons. I recently completed an MA in American Indian Studies at the UA, with a BA in World Religions. I am a massage therapist returning from hiatus!

Liz Fletcher purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Liz Fletcher chose Richland Heights East

This locally cherished hood in the "Baked Apple" is convenient to so much that Tucson has to offer. Formerly an old ranch property which the city has encircled, we are close to the UA and "The Loop" 100 miles of non-motorized path which lines the Rillito and other major Washes, in and around Tucson. Walk to groceries, restaurants, a French bakery, bars, nature, and parks. We moved into this home with extended family who have since relocated. We re-purposed the extra space for hosting in 2015. It has been a true pleasure--hosting people from around the world--and even Tucsonans!--as well as a wonderful family business! Easy freeway access to the famous Sonoran Desert Museum (outdoors with living animals), the historic San Xavier del Bac Mission built by the Tohono O'odham, and drive minutes north of the house to beautiful hikes in the Santa Catalina Mountains. Another quick drive to the Botanical Gardens offers a feast for the eyes as well as gastronomically in their fabulous café. Enjoy their amazing seasonal Butterfly Garden. And the list goes on . . . In 2014 I began implementing water harvesting features on the property which has become a fascinating obsession--and a constant work in progress. I am now working with a neighborhood group to develop stormwater harvesting features in this neighborhood with public grants.

What makes this cottage unique

Enjoy all the comforts of home! This low key, low density, neighborhood was established in 1938 and the north-central heart of Tucson offers easy access to many near and distant attractions! Neighbors enjoy walking their dogs, biking, and strolling the wide quiet streets. Only 3 miles from the UA and just blocks from "The Loop" (over 100 miles of non-motorized bike/foot trails), this neighborhood is cherished by Tucsonans and appreciated by visitors. Located very near the Rillito Wash, an arroyo wildlife corridor runs through the neighborhood, providing occasional sightings of varied wildlife. We share the yard with numerous types of lizards, ground squirrels which hibernate in the winter, and bunnies. Many bird species are noted here as well as the exotic sounds of owls and coyotes at night. Walk to groceries and a French cafe or Mexican food one block away. Numerous diverse restaurants are just minutes away by car.

It was like going to a little house of a good friend.

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I stayed here for a week. Walking into this house, we felt a coziness and welcome from every part of it. I am drawn to windows and the light and the view of the Catalinas. My mornings started pre-dawn with coffee and journal and readings by the living room window. I watched as the morning light gave a soft glow to the mountains and then the crescendo: The first full rays of the sun wrapped Mt Lemon in a robe of pink. That was the official start of my day.

There is no shortage of natural light. The second bedroom faces east so gets the first light of morning. Solatubes bring in more natural light to the 1st bedroom, the main bath and the kitchen.

We loved the 1 1/2 baths as it gave us flexibility in preparing for the outings of the day or evening.

My sister loved the ‘Sunshine sink’ in the main bath. “What a joy to see that in the morning.” Can’t help but start the day off with some laughter.

The bedrooms are plenty roomy with loads of closet space too.

It was so easy to relax and refresh there. My sister said she had not slept so well in such a long time. It felt good to get good sleep that week.

Our hostess, Liz, was attentive to what was needed in a way that gave us as much or as little ‘alone time’ as was needed. I requested an opportunity to meet her dogs and thouroughly enjoyed my visit with them while chatting with Liz. She’s a delight to get to know, so very easy to work with and open to whatever adjustments might make the stay even better.

This wonderful little place is definitely at the top of our list when I return to Tucson. My return may be in summer so I’m looking forward to using the pool :)

We spent a whole week in Liz's house and we found all the equipment we needed. The house is not only practical but also tastefully decorated. A stylish little paradise! Location is ideal to visit the major Tucson area attractions. Liz was very helpful for any question we had. We would love to come again!

Very nice and comfy

  • 4 of 5

Luz was a great hostess! Lovely property and everything was very nice. Only suggestion is to maybe put a TV in the main bedroom and a grab bar in the tub if she is going to rent to older individuals. The bed was very comfy and plenty of pillows. Living room was nice and patio was very welcoming in the morning. We sat by the pool but still a bit cold to enjoy! Maybe next time

Sweet Little Guesthouse

  • 5 of 5

This is a nice little guesthouse in the heart of Tucson. It's centrally located, so we had an easy time getting around. Liz was friendly and very responsive every time we had a question or needed anything. The sage and aloes were in bloom, so we had hummingbirds visiting frequently throughout the days (even in late January!). They were fearless, and would sip nectar with us sitting only a few feet away. Our dogs were welcomed here, and had plenty of room to run around in the back yard. The landscaping in the front yard is beautiful. We had a wonderful time and would stay here again. Thank you for the accommodation!

Great place to stay in Tucson!

  • 5 of 5

Easy to get around town and to hiking from here. The house was plenty big enough for 2 adults, 2 boys and our dog. Great views of the Catalina mountains in a quiet neighborhood. Plus the boys loved the pool.
