Centrally located in the Black Hills just 3/4 mile from Highway 16 we offer the best of both worlds – easy access as well as peace and tranquility. Yak Ridge is only a short drive from Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Sheridan Lake, Pactola Reservoir, Mickelson Trail, 1880 Train, Bear Country, Reptile Gardens, caves, museums, and many other area attractions.
Enjoy beautiful mountain and meadow views. Wildlife abounds on our ten acre property. Frequent guests include deer, song birds, turkeys, hawks, and chipmunks. Occasionally bald eagles, elk, coyotes, owls, marmots, and fox also visit the property. Yak Ridge is located at an elevation of 5,000 feet providing for cool evenings and star studded skies.
We acquired the property in 2014 and named it Yak Ridge in honor of our small yak herd and for the hillside's resemblance to the ridge on the back of a yak. The farmstead on a property adjacent to the 10 acre cabin property and is home to honey bees, chickens, and even a small herd of Himalayan yaks.
Yak Ridge is located on the west central edge of Eagle Mountain Ranch established by early settlers. Eagle Mountain, elevation 5,267 is located to the east of Yak Ridge and recognizable by its rock outcrop peak. Bald Eagles have historically nested in the area and are often seen soaring the skies.
During Prohibition, our corner of the Ranch was known as Whiskey Gulch. Remnants of old bootlegger roads and the spring that cooled the whiskey still can be found on Forest Service property adjacent to Yak Ridge.
Looking for additional space? Yak Ridge also offers two 2-bedroom/one bath, and one 2-bedroom/2-bath cabins, each sleeps up to 6 which allows Yak Ridge to accommodate a total of 22 guests. Visit properties 741537, 741538, and 1337653 for details.
