Why Mrs Louise Nixon chose Dumfries
This was purchased from my Aunt and Uncle whom owned Cairnyard House and developed the grounds into a small private holday lodge site. Well what can I say except the whole experience was amazing from start to finish. The Lodge was fantastic, everything you need a real home from home. The decor is really nice with newly refurbished bathroom and carpets in the lounge, comfy beds which are hard to find. We had a slight hiccup with the heating on arrival but I emailed Louise and she called me and talked me through everything, we put in a £2 and £1 coin but no credit registered, next day we put in just one £1 coin and it was fine, so maybe for the best to only the £1 coins. The views are magical, the walks brilliant and our dog Milo loved it, sniffing round for wildlife, even though he didn’t see any, he knew it had been around. Bird food is a must, the amount of different birds that came to the garden were lovely to see.
There are lots of things to do out and about, the walk into the woods just through the site is lovely and peaceful and on the outskirts my partner was lucky enough to see a golden eagle looking for prey. The Red Kite feeding station is good for a visit to see the birds up close. Mabie Forest and 7stanes if you like walking. Mabie Farm for children, so much to see and do.
This was our ideal getaway for much needed rest and relaxation. We will be back x
Thank you Louise x
Thank you for your time to review Heron Lodge.....
The area of Dumfries and Galloway is indeed a lovely diverse tourist area.....with lots of lovely tourist attractions as you mention.
The lodge is exactly as you describe as a cosy home from home environment with everything and more provided for a comprehensive self catering holiday.
No doubt this is due to many a personal experience of renting a high end holiday propertiy and on entering to find bare kitchen cupboards supplying a few bits of crockery and an odd piece of cutlery, with a cold stark environment and not a pamphlet or leaflet on the surrounding area.
Heron Lodge has many repeat guests and you and your family are very welcome to return again.

View was amazing, location was really nice a quiet and lots of space in cabin for family
We left by the first night as the heating system wasn't working and their was no one here to help us. Very cold night and distroyed our little getaway.
When I asked for help we were told to buy a cheap heater or leave. I have a disabled son and it needs to be warm to give him the correct care, because the cabin was below - 0 it was difficult.
The heating at Heron Lodge is obtained by feeding the electric meter with coins, being £2 or £1 coins accepted.
This is clearly indicated in the homeaway advertisement and further clearly indicated in the Arrival Letter which is sent out to guests before their pending arrival along with the key code and entry instructions.
Electric for general use- cooking, lighting and hot water is fully inclusive in the price of lodge hire for normal domestic requirements.
These guests did contact by telephone and instructions were clearly given again on how to obtain heating at the property.
They stated that on popping monies into the electric meter they did obtain heating on entry, but it had stopped working ? By instruction they stated that on feeding the meter with a further £1 coin they could see they had credit on the meter reading and that would then function the heating appliances.
This was concluded that when the meter credit had been exhausted, obviously more monies needed to be fed into the electric meter for the heating to come back on.
In winter months like a January stay an estimate of £5 -£8 maybe approximately required to heat the lodge using all the heating appliances per nights stay - depending on the optimum temperature required and the hours of requirements of use. The heating unit rate cost is of standard rate per electric supply company of day / night unit charged.
Heron Lodge did have stay two sets of guests within a week of your stay at Christmas and New Year and a party of guests the week after your stay in January without any problem or fault of the heating panels /fire / bathroom fan heater and heated towel rail or any fault with the electric meter being fed with coins without problem.
Heron Lodge is an established holiday let property with over 11 years of letting experience and any genuine problem or issue will be immediately addressed. Furthermore, all the heating appliances and the electric coin meter have been professionally checked over to be found fully functional accordingly and a further personal Owner visit found everything functioning fine.
