Enter the estate through the gatehouse that once belonged to Bette Davis and her house Riverbottom. This historic estate was once owned by the famous actress back in 1940 and still has original features and snippets of Hollywood history.
The front doors of Rivergate House opens on the main hall. High valued ceilings dominated by big round white Moroccan lights, the view of the garden and pool spill in through the large windows. The open plan room has a chiefs kitchen (gas drill, double oven, plate warmer, dishwasher, etc) and the adobe fireplace (gas and wood burning), great for marshmallow cooking after dinner. On the other side of the baby grand piano, a Moroccan den with TV (Cable with movie package and HBO, Apple TV and Netflix) Sonos music system and a chest of children’s toys. The large wood Moroccan dining table in the center of the room is the heart of the whole family house.
The large arched windows look to the fountain and front courtyard area. The white arches and tile make this café sitting area perfect to take your morning coffee while birds bath in the fountain. The gated parking lot is patterned with brick and lined with planted stone pots. On the other side of the little entry court yard is a bench under the tree; sometimes there is a slight breeze rocking the giant hanging bird cage.
The master bedroom with its King bed has great charm with valued exposed beams, gray and white with vintage accents. The second bedroom is actually biggest, with twin beds and simple children's wall decals, a large room with space to tumble around. Both bedrooms are en suite with shower (sauna and steam room) claw foot bath tub. The house is grand, stylish and updated.
Our new drought tolerant and organic garden is taking shape over the winter. We just renovated our luscious but water hogging lawn and put down soft sand, with a little strip of grass just by the pool. We have a lounge area with outdoor sofas under the steel and cotton pergola that create an outdoor room, we have a few new trees and other sitting areas. A French Lavender maze to walk and the secret oleander garden at the far end. Our photos are current and we update them as soon as we change things.
Rivergate Estate shares the grounds with other houses that are available for let:

We all enjoy massive organic gardens, almost an acre of garden with an abundance of butterflies and birds, saltwater pool and spa, fire pit, art studio, fountain area, fruit trees, electric car charger, gated off street parking and Wi-Fi throughout. Rivergate House is the biggest and grandest house on the estate. It is not uncommon as the sun is setting that we all gather to play or chat in the garden, the park, or in the front orchard. Rivergate is a unique place and a little hard to describe, it feels a little like a village on a summer day.
I live part time on the estate with my two young children Winston and Vivienne. I am originally from London, England. I take my role as host very seriously and personally. I have won the Hero Award from another Holiday Rental site. We have a kind and hardworking team here and we do our very best to make sure that you have a great time.
Amelia Pitti purchased this house in 2012
The NEIGHBORHOOD upscale and residential. Many of the large houses have private stables and it is common to see cowboys riding in the streets. We are just a few miles from Los Feliz, Silver Lake and Atwater (two exits on the freeway, about 5 minutes). We are bicycling distance from the studios (NBC, CBS, Warner Bros, Disney, Nickelodeon …). Additionally, there are four golf courses very near, as well as Travel Town, the LA Zoo, The Autry Museum, several horse riding facilities and playgrounds, Pickwick ice-skating and bowling and of course the wildlife and 52 miles of hiking and horse riding trails in Grffith Park.
Don’t let the rural setting and the hooting of the owls fool you, we are still in the heart of the city and you should be aware that you can sometimes hear the freeway, helicopters, dogs and sirens typical of city living. I mention it because it seems out of place while you lounge in the sun feeling like you are out in the country.
There are great cycling trails and running tracks throughout the neighborhood and into the Park. Downtown Los Angeles is about 15 minutes away, depending a little on the infamous LA traffic (there is a shortcut through the park along Riverside Drive that is very pretty and cuts out some of the traffic).
Burbank and Glendale are home to loads of shopping including the Americana (a high end outdoor mall with fountain, fine restaurants and events). A Pavilions supermarket is one of the finest around and within walking distance.
We were showing at LAEC and this is the perfect location. The house and grounds are nice and the beds are comfortable. Amy is an awesome owner.
We had a pastoral retreat for 2 couples....The place was great for what we wanted.....It was close to town.....yet it was certainly quiet, peaceful. We would use it again....It was very clean, neat, tidy.....
This place is FANTASTIC. I hope to stay here again! The houses are spacious and comfortable and the property itself is just so cool-- a heated pool and hot tub (with a toddler fence), a lavender maze, fruit trees (we picked and ate oranges off the property), horses winnying nearby, hammocks, a great outdoor table, what more could one ask for? All of our families-- mine, my sister's, my brother's-- had a blast. Our master bed in the large house was very comfortable (assuming the rest are). Really it is a perfect place for families visiting LA, certainly if your activities are focused on the "east side," if I've got my LA terminology right. Amy is lovely and accommodating to boot. Five stars!
Rivergate is a wonderful option for a visit to the Los Angeles area. It is clean, spacious, extremely comfortable, with beautiful outdoor amenities. It is adjacent to Griffith Park, in a suburban neighborhood. We couldn't be happier with our stay!
Our small team typically books a house as apposed to hotels because we carry a ton of equipment. We were filming in Downtown LA and this location could not have been more convenient especially being gated. The house is charming and the property is very peaceful. Amy was available any time I had a question about the house or local restaurants. Unfortunately because of the high volume of work I didn't have the time to enjoy the salt water pool but I am sure it is wonderful. I highly recommend this house to anyone traveling in the area and wants to stay outside the main city.
We were in LA for the Rose Bowl. This house was in a perfect location for us - away from the madness of Pasadena, but close enough that it was easy to be back and forth. It is also really close to Universal and Warner Brothers. But the amazing thing about the house is that it feels like a country retreat, you could hear the horses and we visited the chickens each day. It felt very private, we used the pool each night, but only ran into another person one evening and she was outside to smoke not swim! the house is really well stocked and Amy was really easy to communicate with and she made our stay very comfortable and easy. I hope that we can return here for another holiday.

The stable block at the back of the grounds (original to the Riverbottom estate) abuts Griffith Park, the largest municipal park in America.
