My wife and I spent a week here with our 2 teens and our dog. We had a great time enjoying the peaceful lake right from the comfort of the house's backyard. The small park and beach next door were also a nice plus for those times when we weren't on the water fishing and paddling. They also added a nice feeling of green space on this otherwise full lake shore. The house itself was rustic and cozy for the four of us, with the added benefit of a second full bathroom. The owners were very accommodating and helpful, offering fishing tips and a nice welcome. Highlights for us included a tasty breakfast and Non and Pops, hiking at Lackawanna State Park, soft serve ice cream at the local dairy bar, and a great dinner at the restaurant on nearby Crystal Lake at sunset. All in all an enjoyable trip to the NePA lakes region that I will recommend to others and repeat myself. And for NoVA residents concerned about the drive, consider that it only takes about the same time as a jaunt to the OBX, with peace, solitude and a different lake oriented experience at the other end. Enjoy!
PROS: only 2 1/2 hrs from NYC. Cabin interior is well stocked & thoughtfully arranged; bare essentials but so comfy & enjoyable. Lake Newton is lovely. Row boat & paddle boat add to fun time. Jack (owner) & Dean (son) are close IF u need something.
CONS: all I can think of is exterior of cabin looks old.
Carbondale: buy your basics here at Weiss Mkt. easy directions, just ask Jack (left, left, end, right) stop by Carbondale Historical Society & Museum - Dr. Powell explores & explains local items to the region & US history. Also there is a park with trails 5 minutes from cabin. It's really really nice !!
Honesdale: lots of cool cafes, delis, antiques, diners, historical homes - worth the 20 minute drive.
We had teens with us, no wifi problems, phew ! WE LOVED THIS PLACE!
I rent weekend gateways very often. But so far this was best deal.
It is a lakefront property, Very Clean, Very Well Maintained, Stocked with everything.
Owner is a really good man.
We had really great time and I am very grateful for everything!
We stayed here for a ski trip to Elk Mountain for 4 nights in January, 2016. The cabin was warm, clean and comfortable. The owners were very friendly and accessible, living in a separate house on the property. We didn't get to enjoy the outside fireplace and dock due to the cold, but this would be a nice amenity in the summertime. The kitchen is clean and is fully stocked. We brought in groceries which saved us on ton on eating out. The TV channels were very limited so we actually played family games in the evenings for the first time in years! FYI AT&T has VERY poor coverage here; don't expect to surf the internet on your phone or computer. Verizon, however, has 4G and getting online was no problem. The cabin has wired internet (newer laptops don't always have a T1 connection). Overall, the value was very good and I highly recommend.
