I travel for work so wanted my vacation to be more personal. This house was perfect - great yard, short walk to the beach and feels like your own private beach house for the week. I can see how California beach living is very alluring. I'll be back again next year - for 2 weeks.
Similar story. We rented this home for a week in the summer of 2012. We would have given a 5 star rating but after several attempts to contact the owner, he never returned our deposit and returned our calls or emails.
My son and I were in town to see Disneyland for the first time. The host Mike was Friendly and responsive in all communication. Check in was quick and easy. The home is in a beautiful neighborhood. The home itself is in pristine shape, and was very inviting. All of the linens were clean and fresh. Huge, well maintained yard with deck. All appliances were nice and in working order. We both enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again the next time we visit California.
Michael talked us out of booking through this website and required a direct payment transfer so we were not covered by the VRBO guarantee. We paid for 6 nights on a combo business / personal trip but had to leave after 3 nights because of a knock at the door at 9:30pm from two people looking for him for "legal reasons." Didn't feel safe after that so we left.
He also told us that the jaccuzzi works (which is one of the main reasons we chose this place over others) but it turns out it doesn't work and he admitted to me after I called him on it that he's known since last year and that that was "my bad". He promised us a credit for over $800 for all of this mess but that never came through so we are doing what we need to do to be sure that he is held accountable. Including reporting him to every website that lists his property, including VRBO.
The place was a MESS when we got there, dog hair all over the floors, backyard in shambles, all kinds of "stuff" piled up in the back. Says this place is professionally cleaned after each guest but believe me, NO ONE has cleaned those floors in a LONG time!
He posts pictures of the better parts of this house but strangely leaves the rest for you find out for yourself how bad shape the rest of the house is.
Stay far, far, far away from this property and don't make the same mistake we did, please!
The house was ideal for my 2 teenagers and my self and our 3 dogs. One of the few very dog friendly houses on VRBO. The house is decorated to my taste perfectly - not stuffy by any means and comfy for everybody and yet ecclectic and chic and nostalgic. Kudos to the decorator!!!
The beds were ah mazingly comforable!! I still want to know where they came from because I want to purchase one. The jacuzzi was great in the mornings and after the beach.
Walking the dogs up and down St. Joseph which leads right to 2nd Street for all the action was just so charming and fun every morning and evening. The neighborhood is JUST DIVINE the horticulture is a feast for the eyes!!!!
The front porch is so comfy and quaint!! The back yard is the piece de resistance!!! Please check out the Passion Flower vine with the gorgeous unique flowers and the little butternut colored fruit!! And the red Bouganvilla is amazing in color - haven't seen that particular color before, along with the traditional magenta colored one and the gorgeous dark purple Morning Glory vines in the huge cactus.
The Coffee Bean on 2nd and 1 block left from St. Joseph has DELICIOUS Cafe Vanilla Fraps - better than Starbucks and for the exact same price!!! The Tavern on 2nd is delish for burgers and fish. The Yard House which is on the harbor in downtown L.B was GOOOD - bit of a wait but worth it. Sweet Jill's Bakery is good also to the left of St. Joseph - cash only.
Dog Beach is such a hoot - called Rosies online. Dog freedom on the beach - there's nothing like it!!! FREE parking on the street - $12 for the lot which is only steps away from the street.
We can't wait to go back!!
WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR OUR SECURITY DEPOSIT WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH OWNER AND TOLD COMING BUT WE ARE STILL WAITING.
Not recommended for young childern. My son burnt his foot when he stood on the heating grill - the grill is located on the floor just outside bedroom door. The deck does not have any fence around it and the steps down to the ground are very steep and slippery. The backyard was large and secure and our kids did enjoy playing outside. The beds were very high and young kids or people with mobility challenges would struggle to get in & out of them.
This property was a great base to getting around LA, Belmont Shore is close by and lovely to explore. We would have rated the property higher but having to chase our deposit is very frustrating.
