About Ronald Mickler

My wife and I were both born in St. Augustine. My wife lived on Spanish St. from age one; her grandmother lived in a home on Spanish St when my wife was born. We still own the home of her grandmother and the home my wife grew up in (our daughter's family now live here!). We live on Spanish Street, across the street from where my wife grew up. Ron is a retired educator and Martha is employed by the St. Johns County School Board. We raised two children on Spanish Street and one has returned to raise her family here.

Ronald Mickler purchased this cottage in 1960

Why Ronald Mickler chose St. Augustine

The Little San Felipe cottage was constructed circa 1866. It is perfect for a couple and/or a small family, as it is in the very heart of the old city, half a block from the City Gates, two blocks from the old fort, three blocks from the old cathedral, three blocks from Matanzas Bay. The British Night Watch marches past this home every December, an annual event dating back to the British occupation.

What makes this cottage unique

Little San Felipe has parking directly adjacent to the house, on brick pavers. It has a porch for guests to use as they enjoy the horse-drawn carriages parade by, or just view/speak to other visitors as they visit our street. Guests can walk half a block and catch tour trains to see all there is to see of the historic area, then take their time to walk around and explore on their own, at leisure.

Perfect location in a darling cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in Little San Felipe! The location was perfect for our week-long stay with our small kids who needed to return to the cottage for frequent naps, snacks, etc. And, it was only a short walk to trolley stops. We cooked easily in the well stocked kitchen and they had several items we had left at home (wine opener, can opener, coffee filters, etc.). The entire house, linens, and even the washer/dryer were all very clean. Everything was just as pictured. Ron was very friendly and we hope to return for an anniversary trip next year!

Wonderful time in a wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Little San Felipe Cottage was the perfect location for our St Augustine stay. Once we arrived we were able to walk everywhere we needed to go. We purchased a 3 day trolley pass to get a lay of the land and take us to the few places we wanted to see that were more than a short walk. The cottage was the perfect size for the two of us. It is very well maintained, very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Ron was very accommodating and easy to work with. We took several of Ron's restaurant suggestions and they did not disappoint. We will absolutely stay at the Little San Felipe Cottage during our next visit to St Augustine!

Cute cottage in great location

  • 4 of 5

The location of this cottage can't be beat. It was great to be able to park the car and walk to everything.

The cottage is ideal for two people. The bedroom has a very comfy bed. Kitchen supplies were a bit sparse for more than 2 people. We had our two grand kids who slept on a futon and single pull out sofa. It was fine for them but wouldn't advise for adults.

The owner was very considerate and friendly as well as the neighbors, which was very much appreciated.

Our vacation 'home away from home' is a single story, 1 bedroom with queen size bed, 1 bathroom cottage that sleeps 2 to 4 people and is located in the historic walled city area of St. Augustine. The living room is open to the dining and modern kitchen area. A front porch makes for a delightful area to view the horse-drawn carriages on the street; a small rear, screened porch has a clothes washer and dryer for your convenience. The cottage has off-street parking adjacent to it, which is rare in the historic area. Central air and heat, cable t.v. and internet/wifi are also included.
