Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday home in Endeavour - Yolande's Guest House

Self-Contained Unit: 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, living, dining. Sleeps 4

Looking for a retreat? Over here in this remote village you are guaranteed to have a nice enjoyable vacation. A large comfortable space on the bottom floor, of a 2-storey structure. The house is surrounded by gardens of beautiful flowers, shrubs and fruit trees. The house is located in an area commonly known as DUKES, in the parish of St. Thomas. Dukes is on an elevation, a wind-swept ridge over-looking the south coast. Fortunate for us it tends to be cooler than the coastal areas of Barbados. It is a very treed area, lots of palms, wild bushes. Dukes was known as a working plantation growing sugar cane and other edible crops like sweet potato, yams, cassava.

Past guests said that the central location makes it easy to start your journey to anywhere on the island and particularly was impressed that the central location shortened the distance to many interesting places and shopping on the south/west coast. Many left feeling refreshed because they said the contributing factors were - that the location is great because they were away from the noise in the general tourist spots and the area was for the most part quiet and laid-back. They were able to move around at their own pace, cook their own food, hang out with locals. They were all surprised by the size of the rooms. The rooms are larger than the average size hotel rooms and you have a full size kitchen and all the utensils to go with it.

The bottom floor is self-contained Unit. Access to the bottom floor is through a front door or back door on the bottom floor and there are no connecting stairs internally. The house is equipped with a queen size bed and a queen size sofa bed and can sleep four adults comfortably. There is a shower in the bathroom. There is plenty of storage space. Utilities (water, light and internet) are included. Extra towels provided. Housekeeping will be arranged for guests staying more than 10 days, on a bi-weekly basis. Washing machine is available for use by guests staying longer than 10 days.

In terms of location, we are 5 mins drive from Holetown, St. James and less than 10 minutes away from Harrison's Cave, Welchman Hall Gully and Flower Forest. Driving to our home for the first time can prove difficult as the Maps of the island are incomplete. Some maps list the area as "Dukes" and others as "Endeavour". Do not lose any sleep over that. Google St.Thomas, Barbados and you should find us easily. Located in a Cul-de-sac, east of the Vaucluse RaceWay 13.176826, -59.591152.

Why Yolande Small chose St. Thomas

The property is clean, neat, pleasing to the eye, private, and quiet and cheap considering what other properties go for here. We have intentionally made this property affordable.

What makes this house unique

Offers another experience to the Beaches of Barbados. Be Bajan - live among them, talk to them, meet ordinary bajans, eat bajan food, start friendships. Relax and unwind. Remote location away from the hustle and bustle of the large heavily populated beach properties. Your piece of paradise. Quiet location.

I highly recommend this property to everyone. Whether vacationing or on business, this property will suit you well. Yolande is a great host who provides excellent privacy and spacious living. You will feel as if you are home. If you need to conduct private business meetings you will be pleased. If you are on a honeymoon or anniversary vacation you will feel the intimacy of your accommodations. If you need a family vacation, the place will provide all the living and sleeping space while making your daily excursions. Yolande's Guest House is centrally located on the island, so all the inland and coastal attractions are a short distance away without all the traffic and congestion of Bridgetown or St. Michael's Parrish. One of the greatest perks is that the best coastal seafood restaurants are in reasonable driving distance to the guest house. You can save alot of money in a clean, cozy, and comfortable house, and still enjoy 4 and 5 star restaurants. Excellent cable and internet service is provided at same reasonable cost. Stay one time and you will return. My family stayed 3 times last year alone.

Nice, Comfortable, Downstairs Unit in the Country but WIth Easy Access to the City

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at Yolande's Guest House. Yolande and her husband Bentley are the consummate hosts, very friendly, allow you privacy, but always available if you need anything.

They are very helpful, meeting us at the airport, showing us the way to their house, providing us with the use of a cell phone, and providing us with maps and information on Barbados.

Yolande's Guest House is a spacious, immaculate, downstairs apartment unit offering everything you need including large kitchen with stove, refrigerator, and dining room table, large living room, large bathroom with shower, and a bedroom with ceiling fan, and plenty of closet and drawer space. The guest house was perfect for us because it is away from the touristy areas, yet is easily accessible from the highways, and is a close drive to the cities. It helped us in accomplishing our desire of immersing ourselves in the local culture instead of living like a tourist.

The guest house was immaculate and very clean. Yolande provides all of the little touches to make your stay very enjoyable and comfortable. We were made to fell just as comfortable as though we were living at home. As an added bonus, we enjoyed playing with their adorable dog, Socks, and also enjoyed waking up in the morning to the crowing of roosters and bleating of lambs next door.

This is the best of both worlds as it offered wonderful countryside Barbados living, yet with easy access to everywhere you want to go, living with the people of Barbados, at a fraction of the price of the touristy hotels. We are looking forward to staying at Yolande's Guest House again on our next visit to Barbados.

Owner's Response: Always a pleasure to have guests stay with us and enjoy this beautiful island in the Caribbean. We want you to feel right at home. We plan our work around our guests schedule so as to ensure maximum privacy for our guests. So when you are here at our place it is quiet and private. I love the fact that my guests appreciate the lengths we go to ensure the guest house is clean. Very encouraging! Safety and security for our guests rank high on our to do list. That's why we prefer to come and get you at the airport especially if it's your first visit to the island.

Great Accommodations and Great Hosts

  • 4 of 5

Very Clean and Neat. Amenities were provided and host were very gracious. Owners provided a cell for local calls. A list of the main attractions on the island. Important numbers including emergency numbers were provided. Host provided bananas and gave us a tour of their herb and fruit garden. House temperature was very pleasant without air-conditioning. Value exceptional considering the inflationary rates of Barbados.

These only negative things: They need good directions to location as well as address markings. Internet was extremely slow and could not stream at all. A bed covering on the very comfortable bed is necessary if plastic is going to be left on the bed. Towels need upgrade due to the humidity.

The owners again were gracious hosts who gave excellent tips on restaurants and attractions. They genuinely cared for our comfort. The best restaurant on the island is the Tide in Holetown.

If you like beach activities, but do not have to, or want to stay on the beach this is the place. If you like hills and abby's this is most certainly the place.

Centrally located for the entire Island.

Owner's Response: Chuck, I am happy that for the most part you and your wife enjoyed your stay with us. Thanks for taking the time to give us a review and we appreciate the feedback. It is important for our guests to note that signage in some areas around the island could be improved upon, however we will do our best to ensure that our guests are never left stranded. We had reservations with our guests driving to the house due to the overgrowth and therefore have put other arrangements in place whereby we will pick our future guests up at the airport. We are also working on signage for the house. We are also working diligently with our service provider for the telephone and internet service to improve on the quality of service we are currently getting. It has to be acknowledged that while it was possible to read emails and send messages, streaming movies leave you very frustrated. This we are looking into. Regarding the towel service - the towels are relatively new and guests should feel free to change their towels as often as necessary. Towels can be washed in the laundry provided. There are no housekeeping services provided during a week's visit. Will ensure that on arrival the towels are fresh scented as stored towels will have an odour after a while. Looking forward to continuing to serve you better. Regards

Great vibe, great location, AWSOME PEOPLE!!!

  • 5 of 5

I went to Yolande's place and it was just perfect! Beautiful room, large kitchen and great looking livingroom. Beautiful back yard garden with tons of fresh fruit and herbs ready to use and BBQ easy to use. Really charming and welcoming. About 10 minutes from beaches, restaurants and stores. If your looking for a remote and quiet place on the island far from tourist.. this is it! She help us finding a great deal on a rental car. She gave us all the maps and all information we needed to know about Barbados. I recommand Yolande's guess house 100% to anyone who wants to explore the island and enjoy the quietness off Barbados.

One of the best places to stay on Barbados!

  • 5 of 5

Basically we looked for a nice and secluded stay on Barbados from 22.12. - 02.01.2015. We tried to avoided to stay at the overcroded beach sides at the west of the island. So we found that lovely place!

it is one of the best places to stay on vacation we ever booked - and we have already booked a lot of rantal flats since we are traveling 4 times a year ;-)

The description of the flat was more than accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities etc. Moreover we thought, that it is understated! the property is absolutely clean, well-maintained and provides everything you need to feel comfortable: washing machine, 2 TV's, a large fridge, a lot of electronical kitchen tools, and much more.

But indeed the highlight are the owners: Yolande and her husband! We never met that nice, reliabel helpful and sympatic owners before. They both provided a 5 star customer service: Just a few examples: Yolande managed to rent a car even at high season times, after more than 15 car rental companies rejected us. Her husband organized the transfer from the airport, and he was so friendly and happy to meet us, as if we were long friends (although we were delayed for more than one hour ==> wow, that was a warmly welcome!). Moreover they both provided a lot of information, gave fantastic recommendations in terms of restaurants and places you should not miss. Since they always took care for our security, they gave us a lot of advices about do's and dont's, so that we were well prepared to explore the island of our own.

Before you think about to spend a lot of money to stay at the beachside, you should devinately considerate to stay at Yolande's guesthouse. The contryside is so beautiful, the distances are always short and it is a perfect centralized situated location to start daytrips to all directions all over the island.

Well guys, you probably already noticed, how exited we are about that stay at Yolande. It is a real peral of the caribean sea ;-)

We will always recommend this guesthouse without any doubts to every friend and to any other travelers.

Yolande, it was an unforgetable vacation for us and a real pleasure to stay at your house, meeting you and your charming husband! Your present for our 5th wedding annivasory was so lovely! Thank you again for all! We keep you both always in mind!

Excellent vacation rental.

  • 5 of 5

Hosts very welcoming and accommodating, will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable.

Unit is extremely well equipped, all you need is your suitcase. Super clean, spacious, with every possible convenience, even has maps, tour info, etc. Property is very well maintained. Gardens are lovely, with comfortable patio seating. No a/c needed, there are ceiling fans in every room, and the cooling sea breezes that flow throughout the home keep the unit very comfortable, especially for sleeping. Location good for walking, hiking. Shopping/beaches a mere 10 minutes way. A vehicle is recommended, although taxis are available. We plan to return.

Owner's Response: Our motto is "treat others the way we would like to be treated". We also operate on the premise that if we provide a clean environment for our visitors they will treat the place with respect and leave it clean. We enjoy what we do and having travelled ourselves know that vacations are no longer cheap and therefore it is expected that our guests be made as comfortable as possible.
