Fantastic holiday home
Absolutely loved this house. Charming house, well equipped, location was exactly what we were looking for. kind of in the middle of nowhere but only a short drive from Kingussie where the Co Op met all our shopping needs, we cooked and ate at the house for the most part. Walks from right outside the house in every direction. Our favorite was accessed at the bridge onto the RSPB marshes right beside a roaring piece of river...beautiful!
So glad you enjoyed Porch House. It is really a very special place and you obviously appreciated its unique setting, peace and quiet but not too isolated.
I look forward to welcoming you back again soon
Holiday at Porch House
The property was very comfortable and well located. The instructions to find it were not very clear. It took us some time to find it. The bridge wasn't named, even on Google maps, and the distillery sign was not obvious. The road to the property was very uneven, we had to drive very slowly to avoid the ruts and stones and were quite worried about the car grounding on it.
However, we thoroughly enjoyed the location, with walks in several directions and the fact that birds, squirrels etc were easy to see from the large windows.. The RSPB hides were numerous and well used.
The cottage was very spacious and was very well equipped.
There were several local shops for food etc. and it was well located for several attractions.
Just one thing we have never come across before and have stayed in several cottages over the years, was the fact that we were charged a £200 deposit to cover electricity use and breakages. This has always been included in the price, which was not cheap! In fact, several cottages we have stayed in have had welcome packs, one including a bottle of wine and chocolates, another a large bunch of flowers.
Quiet and comfortable house
Liked the secluded and quiet location and seeing the birds around the feeders every morning. Ideal location for walks and getting the train to different locations. The house was a little cold when we arrived and took a while to get warm but apart from that no complaints. Beds were comfortable too and the kitchen was well equipped. Would stay there again.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a positive review..its much appreciated
Apologies that you found the cottage chilly on arrival, the storage heaters warm up over night and may have been set low by previous guests. I am glad it did not stop you enjoying your time at Porch House
I hope to welcome you back again soon
Really enjoyed staying at Porch House. We chose it because of the rural location and the opportunities to see Speyside wildlife in the garden and we were not disappointed. We were particularly pleased that the owner does not feel the need to mow all the grass on the property. The house is also well-placed for access to local nature reserves (Tromie meadow just round the corner is a super spot and Insh Marshes not much further) as well as the more famous sites like Loch Garten and Rothiemurchus to the north. On the whole the facilities in the house met our expectations. If I was to point out one thing for improvement it would be the rather slow refill of the toilet cistern. With only three of us in the house it was not a major issue, but for a larger party it could prove more so. However, this did not significantly affect what was an enjoyable experience overall.
Michael many thanks for positive review
I am so glad you enjoyed your time at Porch House and the local sites lived up to expectation
Your comment re toilet cistern is noted, and I am glad to say I have finally managed to get a plumber booked for this week [they are like gold dust up here] so hopefully will soon be sorted
Look forward to you returning soon
Excellent location, very handy for good walking. Comfortable beds. Well equipped.
A must if you love red squirrels, sitting on the window sills and chasing each other around the trees. Don’t forget to have a good supply of peanuts.
Many thanks for positive review
I am always happy to know that guests love this special place as much as I do
I am at the cottage myself for a couple of weeks and the red squirrels now have competition with a full size male pheasant on the window sill!
Hope to welcome you back sometime soon
Squirrels on the windowsills
House is clean and functional, well equipped with everything you need if a bit tired and dated in places. The best part was the lounge, it was like having your own wildlife hide with large windows on 3 sides. My favourite thing was to get up first thing in the morning to peek through the crack in the curtains to see who was in the garden. There was a resident grouse, 2 red squirrels and a visiting hare most days. The garden is overgrown and had no mown areas and with having a dog I was concerned about him picking up ticks from it so limited the use. We stayed at another property the following week with maintained gardens and saw just as much wildlife on it. The location is peaceful and quiet with walks from the door and all the supplies you need in Kinguisse a short drive away.
Thanks for your review
I am concerned that you found no area of mown grass.I pay for a fortnightly gardener to keep a large area around the cottage kept short. In particular where the garden table is situated.
Thank you for letting me know, I will look into it.
I deliberately keep the remainder of the 1.5 acres more unkempt as this actively encourages wildlife.
The wildlife and solitude are indeed special and Porch House is as you say well situated for both
Hope to welcome you back again in the future
