Rural retreat

  • 4 of 5

Property is extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need, a real home from home. Lots of wildlife visits the large garden, squirrels, deer, hares and birds. Plenty of forest walks are close to hand. The local shops at Kingussie are only 3 miles away, and has an extremely well stocked Co- Op. Great place for hill walking with your 4 legged companions. Hope to return soon.

Prompt communication with the owner.

Just lovely.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our two children during Feb half term. House was basic but clean and tidy and had everything you might need. Location was great. Easy access to great walking and to ski and sledge at Aviemore. We also saw so much wildlife without having to move from the sofa! Loved every day here. We didn't want to leave.

Lovely cottage in a magical setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay at Porch house. The location was spot on for access to the Cairngorm mountains for our winter mountaineering adventures as well as more family based adventures such as the Wildlife park just down the road. It was magical staying in the forest and watching the wildlife in the mornings come to feed. The adults enjoyed watching the red squirrels just as much as the 17month old. The cottage is basic which exactly the sort of place we like to stay and has absolutely everything you could need. No frills required. Anne was absolutely fantastic when we contacted her about an Internet connection problem and sorted it asap keeping us updated in the meantime. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely like to return in the future... Lots more exploring to be done in the area.

A great place for walking and enjoying the fabulous scenery. Warm and comfortable, well equipped. Our car was virtually snowed in for three days, but that did not stop us from walking for miles and finding more and more tracks around the area. A Drumguish neighbour told us he had seen a flock of snow bunting in a field above Killiehuntly, probably come down from the high hills to shelter. We saw black grouse, heron by the icy river, several flocks of geese and duck from the marshes, lots of tits and a robin and chaffinch at the bird tables, along with a pair of enchanting red squirrels who were remarkably bold. Walked to Kingussie and saw a pair of red deer hinds sheltering in the trees beside the road. Winter in that area is magical!

A most enjoyable week in lovely surroundings

  • 4 of 5

We spent a splendid week amidst the most beautiful landscape which we knew well but had not stayed in for many years. Enjoyed great walks, some in the snow, and caught up with old friends, including the local red squirrel population!

The house was welcoming and well equipped. Clearly it requires a lot of heating in cold weather, reflected in the amount of electricity used and perhaps some investment in insulation and a good woodburning stove might be considered for the future. This did not detract in any way from the enjoyment of our stay.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed Porch House The heating is expensive in the winter Despite lift insulation. However the rental price is much lower in the winter period to reflect the cost of heating All guests are reminded to adjust the controls to suit their individual needs and avoid high costs Thank you for your booking

idealic, peaceful

  • 5 of 5

we had a wonderful time at Porch house, situated in a hollow surrounded by trees. We took plenty of Monkey nuts and peanuts as advised and put them on the bird tables and the window sills and watched the Red Squirrels for hours,( so funny). also saw chaffinches, Grouse and rabbits as well as Robins and a Crossbill.

The local town Kinguisse has all you will need for food and restaurants, pubs etc.

Porch House is well equipped and very comfortable.if you like a little bit of seclusion without being to far away from amenities and like to walk I am sure you will be happy to stay there.
