A most enjoyable week in lovely surroundings

  • 4 of 5

We spent a splendid week amidst the most beautiful landscape which we knew well but had not stayed in for many years. Enjoyed great walks, some in the snow, and caught up with old friends, including the local red squirrel population!

The house was welcoming and well equipped. Clearly it requires a lot of heating in cold weather, reflected in the amount of electricity used and perhaps some investment in insulation and a good woodburning stove might be considered for the future. This did not detract in any way from the enjoyment of our stay.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed Porch House The heating is expensive in the winter Despite lift insulation. However the rental price is much lower in the winter period to reflect the cost of heating All guests are reminded to adjust the controls to suit their individual needs and avoid high costs Thank you for your booking

idealic, peaceful

  • 5 of 5

we had a wonderful time at Porch house, situated in a hollow surrounded by trees. We took plenty of Monkey nuts and peanuts as advised and put them on the bird tables and the window sills and watched the Red Squirrels for hours,( so funny). also saw chaffinches, Grouse and rabbits as well as Robins and a Crossbill.

The local town Kinguisse has all you will need for food and restaurants, pubs etc.

Porch House is well equipped and very comfortable.if you like a little bit of seclusion without being to far away from amenities and like to walk I am sure you will be happy to stay there.

Warm and cosy cottage with plenty of space in a peaceful woodland setting

  • 4 of 5

We wanted a cottage that was convenient for natural history activities, so near access to Insh Marshes RSPB was ideal, and the friendly Red Squirrels a delightful bonus.

Cosy retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Porch House 8th-15th April 2017. We had a great stay - the house was always warm and had plenty of space. Red squirrels ran across the windowsills after the nuts we had put out for them, which occupied our son most mornings. We really enjoyed our stay.

Real "Home from home"

  • 5 of 5

Cottage contained everything we could possibly want. Plenty of room and extremely comfortable. The lady who maintained the cottage was very pleasant and helpful about the local wildlife.

Would definitely recommend and visit again.

A wonderful spot for relaxing, outdoor adventure or peacefully observing Highland Wildlife.

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed 2 weeks of blissful winter highland life. It's a lovely house in a great location. With everything you need for a comfortable relaxed holiday, Porch House is beautifully set in a sheltered large wooded garden that plays host to numerous native and visiting birds. The resident red squirrels kept us amused the whole time no matter what the weather. Their morning visits to the window ledges frequently delayed trips out, if we were slow to put out their breakfast nuts, the squirrels would tap on the windows and demand service.

We are frequent visitors to the Highlands with plans to move up before too long. We've stayed in some very grand places, idyllic loch-side houses and some wild remote outposts but no other location has held us at base camp for quite so many hours as Porch House, despite being ideally positioned to explore the hills in all directions.

It's peaceful and secluded but only a short trip to shop for essentials with Kingussie and Newtonmore just a few miles away. We did enjoy plenty of trips out to take in the Central Highlands, further afield and to visit friends, there are so many attractions in the vicinity it's easy to see why previous visitors are keen to return.

We had a great time and would highly recommend it.
