About Heather Douglas

We have lived in this little coastal town for 13 years now and are excited at the opportunity to share it with others. I am a nurse at our small community hospital and my husband is a wildlife biologist. We have 2 kids and a dog (Kona) who we named our cabin after. Our family enjoys exploring the coast, hiking, biking, as well as attending many of our unique community events. The world's largest salmon barbecue in July and the Ugly dog contest during Labor Day weekend are some of our favorites.

Heather Douglas purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Heather Douglas chose North Coast California

We fell in love with this property because of the close proximity to town, but "in the middle of nowhere" feel it has. It is set at the end of the road and feels like you are in a forest. It has the feel of a campground but offers the comforts of home just inside the door. Our kids have loved exploring the property and beyond in Jackson Demonstration State Park since we purchased it. In the fall we collected baskets of wild mushrooms and in the spring discovered wildflowers popping up everywhere.

Kona Cabin is the place to be!

  • 5 of 5

This little cabin is the PERFECT get away! It was so quiet and peaceful there, yet we were just a hop skip and a jump away from town or Mendocino! We are hopeful this cabin will be available for many many years to come since we plan on coming back regularly! It was very comfortable and very neat and clean! Thank you!

cozy and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely cabin. Even in July we were cozy by the fire! It is a secluded setting but only 5 minutes from stores and restaurants. Fort Bragg is a friendly, pretty town that is more family friendly than Mendecino and we would highly recommend this rental!

Our family had such a wonderful time at the Kona cabin. The kitchen had everything we needed. And there was so much to do and explore. It was a wonderful place to stay!

magical

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I were very happy and comfortable with Kona. I have stayed in properties all over the world and I have never experienced such an amazing setting. The cabin is in a Redwood grove, it is quiet and very peaceful. The property is in excellent condition, very clean and there was every amenity one needed. I can't imagine a better vacation opportunity.

Quiet and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Everything about the cabin is as described in the listing.

When I got there I felt like it was even better than I expected. Heather and Douglas left fruit and wine out, which was a nice way to start. The kitchen is well stocked and equipped for basic cooking, and there were plenty of towels and bedding, and even some supplies for the dogs. The bed is comfortable. Internet access, Netflix, Hulu and cable are available if you want to ignore the outdoors for a while, or you could do puzzles or play games. It is cool most of the time, which is pretty nice in the warm part of the year and makes it easy to sleep.

The woods nearby have plenty of pleasant trails to walk on, including many that lead to a creek. Deer meander through the property (this may be upsetting for dogs :). It's far enough from other houses that there is a feeling of privacy. Plenty of outdoor seating. It's far enough from the road that the road noises are not disturbing, but close enough that it's easy to get into town or go to the beach. There is a dog friendly beach (Noyo) 10 minutes away.

I'm very glad I had the chance to stay there.

Great spot for a family weekend getaway.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time here in this lovely Redwood Grove. The house is nice and as advertised. If anything, the pictures don't give you the full sense of how out-of-the-way this is, nestled in the forest. That being said, it's only maybe a five minute drive into town, super convenient. Everything was thoughtfully prepared, clean and in good working order.

Visit the new coastal walking trail at Glass beach with awesome views of the rocky coastline or explore the beach for treasures discarded years ago now transformed into beautiful sea glass. Learn about the history of the prior logging town which used what is now Glass Beach as the town dump. For more history you can ride the historic Skunk Train which makes trips inland among the redwoods and back. A short drive to Anderson Valley offers a friendly wine tasting region with award winning boutique wineries that specialize in pinot noir and Gewürztraminer.
