I'm looking forward to my second summer of VRBO rentals at my cabin on Lummi Island. Please make sure to read the wonderful review from last summers guests. While my summer schedule does not allow me enough time to enjoy Lummi Island, I'm so happy to be able to share the experience with others. Welcome to one of the best kept secrets in the San Juan Islands.
Enjoy the view via my two story A-frame window that looks out upon Mt. Baker and Bellingham Bay in this cosy 1 bedroom cabin and with loft. The large deck invites to you to spend time outdoors and BBQ your nightly meals as you enjoy the view. Located on the South end of Lummi Island about 4 miles from the ferry landing in the Scenic Estates you are high up on the mountain which offers the spectacular views. Great for a romantic get away with NO PHONE, NO INTERNET and NO CABLE to distract you from pure relaxation. (there is good cell reception and VCR/DVD set up in the loft with an eclectic supply of movies to choose from.)
Lummi Island offers dining at the Beach Store Café and shopping at the Islander Market (with free wifi access). The Lummi Congregational Church offers beach access for a stroll overlooking the SW end of the island towards Orcas Island. Easy access to Bellingham via the 7 minute ferry ride to the mainland which makes on average two runs per hour up until Midnight.
While you may have plans on the island, once you find yourself sitting on the deck and overlooking Hales Passage, Portage Island, Bellingham Bay, Bellingham and Mt. Baker - you will find it nearly impossible to do anything else. Luckily, the BBQ is on the deck, so you can cook meals while enjoying the view and the variety of birds surrounding you.
Bird watching from the house is a favorite past time - and very easy to spend way too much time doing this. Hummingbirds abound until mid-August and there are plenty of gold finch and other birds. Currently (Summer 2016) there is a pair of bald eagles that circle overhead in the late afternoons. Additionally, deer, raccoons and chipmunks are regular visitors to the house. Even though you may feel worlds away from it all, there is never a lack of activity to gaze upon.

Erik Birkeland purchased this cabin in 1998
I grew up in Ferndale with a view of Mt. Baker. The moment I stepped foot onto this property in 1998, I knew I had found one of the most special places on earth and with my Mt. Baker view.
Incredible view and surrounded by nature.
While the neighbor houses are close by, they are set back and you only notice them when parking the car. Once you're in the house and on the deck, you can have the feeling of having the entire island to yourself.
We spent a lovely wet and windy November weekend snugged up in this perfect cozy cabin, with the hummingbirds and fabulous view to keep us company. It is an extremely comfortable cabin and has everything you could possibly want. Erik is a wonderful host and made sure everything was all set for us. We will definitely be back. Thank you!
My wife and I could not have been happier with our stay here. Spectacular view is right! Amazing when Mr. Baker is visible, and still stunning when clouds roll in. The setting is exquisite, even with close-by neighbors it feels like no one else is near. "Cozy" is a good description. The space was ideal for two of us with a comfortable bed and bedroom. It could accommodate more, maybe even as many as six if shared space, couch beds, and a small bathroom and kitchen are not a concern, but I think it would start to feel tight. Host was wonderful, left us a lovely welcome gift and ideas for what to do during our stay including hikes and restaurants and galleries and shops, and checked in to make sure everything was okay. The place was clean and well appointed and very comfortable, and that big deck is an absolute delight when the weather is clear. But even when the weather brings you indoors, the living room has a two-story wall of windows that lets you take in the view and feel a part of the abundant nature around you. Highly recommend.
We certainly enjoyed our weekend getaway to The cosy cabin. The view was awesome and it is amazing how quiet it is. We were treated to an island art show where local artist opened their studios and displayed their work. It was amazing, we got to see parts of the island and the local artists that most don't get to see.
Erik was conscientious about contacting me and making sure I had all the information I needed, which was helpful for a first time VRBO user. The resident hummingbird welcomed (or scolded) me from a treetop every time i sat outside. My last evening, two young deer were grazing on the hillside near the parking space and were a lovely addition to my visit. Even though it seemed almost too quiet at first, the time away from electronics was helpful for me-I finished several art projects for a class I am taking, finished two books, and started a third. The kitchen had all of the pots, pans, utensils that I needed.
The warning about driving slower than the speed limit is a good one. Several times deer ran across the road in front of me or I rounded a corner to find people and their pets out walking on the road. I enjoyed encountering only one a traffic jam: a resident walking his dog standing in my lane while talking to the driver of a truck stopped in the on-coming lane with a boat-towing truck stopped behind them and me blocking the driveway of a car wanting to enter the roadway. Except for ferry traffic, this was the most vehicles I saw on the road at one time during my whole stay!
My wife and I stayed here for three nights. Loved this place. House has everything you might think of. View is captivating. We actually just did nothing much other than sitting on the deck enjoying the view and watching hummingbirds hovering near the house.
Very clean, very well maintained. Lummi island is a wonderful place to visit but if you get the opportunity to stay, stay here. Its a little slice of heaven that re-energizes the soul. The cabin itself feels like it sits on top of the island with beautiful views of Mt Baker and over the sound. We read another review that said the deck is what made this the perfect place and we completely agree! The bed is very comfortable, chairs as well. The kitchen is well stocked and has all the knick knacks needed for cooking. Bathroom and shower are good and the old school VHS movie selection is perfect in the upstairs loft. Overall this place deserves as many stars as possible. Don't miss out!
