About Pat Wilmsen

My family has been coming to Mt Gretna for years to enjoy all it has to offer. My father and his family are from the Hershey area and tell wonderful stories of the "old days" in Mt Gretna

Pat Wilmsen purchased this house in 2015

Why Pat Wilmsen chose Pennsylvania

It has so much potential but was so neglected. We knew it had good bones and loved the porch, so we took on the project to remodel it and give it's charm back. It was a huge project but one we took on with gusto and love.

Perfect get away

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Story Book Cottage. Very quaint location, charming house, clean and well kept. Local resturants offered good food and great service. We will definitely be returning in the future if the need ever arises.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

A very quiet and peaceful community. The people are very friendly. The cottage is very Clean and cozy. We spent allot of time on the front porch talking and having dinners. The story book theme is cute and if you look closely you'll find a story everywhere. My wife was impressed with the fairy garden out front. One of the best get always ever. We highly recommend staying here if visiting in the Mount Gretna area. You won't be disappointed.

Cosy, clean and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this clean, cozy, well-supplied cottage. The bedrooms and bathroom are on the 2nd floor. It's definitely not roomy, but was fine for we three retired ladies. We liked sitting on the porch relaxing and watching birds and squirrels. It's situated in a quaint neighborhood where the homes are close together but yet fairly private and surrounded by nature. The only cons were that while it is a very short walk from the parking lot to the cottage, it is a gentle uphill slope and a little difficult if you're physically limited; and also, I was unable to connect with WiFi at all (though I didn't really miss it much - it was sort of freeing!). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Story Book Cottage.

Cute place in a charming area - met all our needs

  • 4 of 5

This was the perfect rental for our family with 3 young kids, under 10 years old. The theme was really cute and the space was just enough for us for a week. The pictures don't show it but there is actually 3 beds in the second bedroom. The kitchen was outfitted with everything we needed, including a toaster tucked away in a cabinet. The house does not have a clothes washer or dryer so we needed to bring a full weeks worth of clothes and towels, which really isn't a big issue.

Mt. Gretna camp meeting is very unique. When we arrived, it was in the middle of the annual bible festival. We got to watch a hand bell concert, a performance by the National Christian Choir, and a Sunday morning service at the Tabernacle, an awesomely huge open pavilion with lots of pews.

The house is about half an hour from Hershey Park and Harrisburg. We highly recommend taking a tour of the Capitol Building. There's also a big shopping mall in Harrisburg. Both of those activities were perfect on the one rainy day we had. We also recommend visiting the Mt Gretna Campmeeting community library, the Mt Gretna Roller rink, and the Beach at Mt Gretna Lake.

The house does have an issue with dampness. The only bathroom does not have an operable window or fan to exterior so we opened the hall window next to the bathroom door during showers. The owners are aware and are taking steps to reduce the overall moisture in the house using 3 wall air handling units (heat, a/c & dehumidifier) as well as a small dehumidifier in the second bedroom and a rechargeable unit in the bathroom. Our family all got runny noses by the third day that resolved when we spent the whole day out of the house. That's the only reason this isn't a 5 star review.
