Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Yosemite National Park - Yosemite Hideout

Beautiful 3 Br - 2.5 Bath House Inside Yosemite National Park and Garage Parking

Looking for a hide out inside the gates of Yosemite to take a memorable vacation, explore new places complete with adventure, fun and relaxation? Yosemite Hideout is just the place for you!! My home in Yosemite West offers a secluded respite 18 miles inside the South Entrance of Yosemite. Nestled in the trees at 6000' in elevation, and far away from the surrounding Valley communities, Yosemite Hideout is midway between the Yosemite Valley waterfalls and granite monoliths, the Giant Sequoias in the Mariposa Grove and the breathtaking views from Glacier Point and Sentinel Dome. Yosemite Hideout is the ideal place to set up your base-camp!! (This is a brand new listing and the calender is wide open!!)

Yosemite Hideout is a three bedroom, two 1/2 bath house deep inside the park boundaries. Yosemite Hideout is PERFECT for family getaways! There is a large two car garage on the road at the main house level, making unloading your car quick and easy, even in the winter!! Three large private decks float high in a pine tree canopy on the property with the two largest facing west where you experience the wonderful sunsets. Enjoy a barbeque, a glass of wine and good cheer on the deck recounting your day's adventures and explorations of Yosemite.

If you prefer to cook a gourmet meal, Yosemite Hideout has a HUGE fully appointed kitchen with full-sized appliance, spacious counter tops, and all the cooking equipment and gear you will need including pots, pans, Oxo utensils, coffee maker, toaster, blender, electric beater, tea pot, microwave and plenty of interesting cookbooks! You will have your choice between informal eating on the porch under the umbrella, or the adjustable butterfly table in the dining room.

Yosemite Hideout's living areas are on the top floor away from the downstairs bedrooms. In the living room you will find a flat screen television with Acoustat speakers, an extensive DVD collection, Yosemite Guidebooks, novels and comfortable seating. Satellite internet is available for checking your email and browsing. (Please note that the satellite internet is NOT sufficient to stream video or other bandwidth intensive activities).

Yosemite Hideout has been my home for the past almost three decades. This year is the first year I have made it available for guests to enjoy. My good friends and neighbors Melissa and Jeff are close by and quickly onsite in case you need assistance with the house. They have kindly offered to help make your stay at Yosemite Hideout a memorable vacation!!

About Jeff Hornacek

Iconic ski instructor Nic Fiore taught me to ski at Badger Pass when I was three years old. I could not get enough of the snow, the trees, the smell and the unparalleled beauty of Yosemite National Park. After high school I took a brief hiatus and worked for the Yosemite Park & Curry Co in a variety of jobs including ski patrol, ski instructor, life guard and pantry worker. I returned to college and still worked in Yosemite on weekends. The National Park Service hired me as a Park Ranger and I held every job imaginable for the next 20 years ~ horse patrol ranger, resources manager, foot patrol, fee collector, EMT and dispatcher. Law school was my next calling and while I have never lost my love for Yosemite I do not get home as often I would like so I decided to share my home with Park Visitors. I hope you will find as much fun, adventure and pure happiness here as I have over the years. My neighbors Jeff and Melissa will help insure you have everything you need for your perfect vacation.

Jeff Hornacek purchased this house in 1988

Why Jeff Hornacek chose Yosemite

My parents starting bringing me to Yosemite National Park when I was three years old. I remember frequent family trips to Yosemite to ski, hike, ride horses, float on the river and ride bicycles. I feel like I grew up in Yosemite and once out of high school I began working for the Yosemite Park & Curry Co before going to college. After working several years for the National Park Service I had the wonderful opportunity to purchase an empty lot in Yosemite West, a place I knew I wanted to be for a very long time. My dream of building a home came true in 1988. As you know, Yosemite National Park is quite simply the most breathtaking place on earth. The waterfalls, the granite domes and monoliths, the Giant Sequoias, Sugar Pines, and Oak trees are most spectacular in Yosemite National Park. There are over 750 miles of established trail in the Park, giving you the opportunity to see extensive wildlife such as bear, mountain lions, deer, squirrels, raccoons, coyotes and marmots on a regular basis. If you are lucky enough to live in the mountains you are lucky enough.

What makes this house unique

Yosemite Hideout is in Yosemite West.....right in the middle of the most popular Yosemite sites.....whether it's the many waterfalls and huge granite monoliths and domes of Yosemite Valley to the north, the Giant Sequoias of Mariposa Grove to the south, or the breathtaking views from Glacier Point to the east, you are perfectly positioned to explore them all when your base is Yosemite Hideout in Yosemite West. Add to that the unparalleled comfort of the Hideout and scenic sunset views from the decks, you are truly able to hide out from your daily life and recharge your batteries. The large two car garage has easy access from the street, and to the main floor of the house; unloading your car is simple and the layout supports easy access during winter snows. The 6000' elevation is cooler in the summer than the surrounding towns and Yosemite Valley, and because Yosemite Hideout faces to the West, it is warmer in the winter.

Lovely getaway in a stunning setting

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Yosemite Hideout was spot-on. Thank you for sharing your home with us. The directions made it easy to find. The house was beautiful, spacious and well-kept. Jeff and Melissa were welcoming and replied promptly to the few questions we had. The kitchen is roomy with plenty of counter space for all of us to pitch in preparing meals. The beds were comfortable and very firm. The back decks, both off of the dining area on the top floor and off of the bedrooms on the lower level allowed us to stay connected with the forest, wildlife (mostly birds and chipmunks) and gorgeous sunsets. Although we'd spent time in the valley and in Wawona on previous visits, we had never been to Glacier Point before. Being so close to the road leading to Washburn and Glacier Point (about 1/4 mile from the Yosemite West entrance) was a plus, although it takes a good (and scenic) 30 minutes to get to Glacier Point. The suggested hikes in the house binder were excellent–Henness Ridge Lookout was a nice introduction to the immediate area and the Sentinel Dome secret parking/trail made us to feel like locals in-the-know. Mariposa Grove is closed for restoration until summer 2017--instead we trekked down (and then back up) to the Merced Grove on our way home so we did see a couple of giant sequoia trees. Our grandkids, who had never been to Yosemite, enjoyed our bike ride through the forested trails, got to see climbers on El Capitan (through binoculars), swam in Merced River with the minnows and trout, and were as awed as the adults at the beauty of the place. Celebrating my birthday at sunset on Glacier Point as the full moon rose over the the eastern Sierras was the stunning high point. We look forward to returning and will recommend Yosemite Hideout to friends.

Yosemite Hideout is the perfect place to stay at Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

Yosemite Hideout is perfect in so many important aspects. It is perfectly located. Wow, a private development within the park, itself. No need to keep going back and forth SLOWLY through the entrance gates on each visit while almost equidistant from the 3 major destinations in the park: the Valley Floor, Glacier Point and Wawona. The home is very spacious (3 bedrooms; 2.5 baths) and well laid out with all the bedrooms downstairs and an open concept upstairs. It is also very well appointed with comfortable furnishings and everything you need in the kitchen short of the food itself. There is a big screen TV with an excellent variety of DVDs and two very spacious decks (plus a front porch) for a BBQ or to just sit and enjoy the surroundings. We went in the summer and could easily see this being a perfect spot any time of the year. The owners/managers also provided a binder inside the unit with very useful information and details about the Hideout, about the park, about their favorite destinations and hikes and even include the owner's manuals of every important appliance and electronic item. We followed their advice for maximizing the limited satellite internet and had no problems with daily email communication. It was an excellent value and we hope to be back whenever we return to Yosemite. In summary, a perfect size (for 2-6), a perfect location, a perfect price and a perfect Hideout.

Quiet, peaceful, beautiful

  • 4 of 5

My family and I appreciated this quiet retreat from Yosemite Valley. It was worth the drive back/forth each day of our stay. The sunsets off the deck were stunning. We enjoyed having a full kitchen at our disposal and were able to come home at night and make healthy dinners and relax after a long day.

As the owners make clear, the internet is spotty here - be prepared. There was enough WiFi to download maps for the day, and between that and the guidebooks provided, we were able to plan wonderful days of hiking.

I would recommend this listing highly.

Yosemite Hideout!

  • 5 of 5

This was my first HomeAway experience & before booking the Yosemite Hideout I spent many hours looking at rentals inside the park. Obviously we book based on pictures which can be deceiving but everything on website for Yosemite Hideout was spot on!! I have to admit I was nervous considering I made the decision on this particular location & 5 other women were trusting my judgement. Well, I must say everyone raved about everything, beds were comfortable, bath towels were very nice, thick & good quality, linens were also very nice, I can tell you take pride in your home!

The kitchen was perfect as we cooked in every meal, even the kitchen towels were a perk, little things go a long way.

Another positive, plenty of toilet paper!! I've stayed in condo's where they have only what's on the roll, nothing more, I brought extra just in case considering it was all women!! I noticed the half used rolls under the sink, great to have backup, doesn't have to be a brand new roll.

That being said we only have a few negatives...... the microwave needed a good cleaning inside (it was rather nasty)..... other suggestion wipe down outside patio table better & sweep patio to remove all the cobwebs. The positives out weight the negatives by far.... we left

a gratuity for Rebecca with a note regarding the 2 above mentioned items. I know as a former owner of rental property you need to know these things!! Thanks for sharing your home!! Look forward to a return trip to Yosemite!

Lovely hideaway in Yosemite - would recommend

  • 4 of 5

This property was lovely and comfortable. We had been travelling for two weeks by the time we reached here and it was a welcomed retreat. Well located about 25 mins from Yosemite village but in a quiet and tranquil position with amazing views just up the road. House comfortable and spacious. Wifi is limited but manageable especially when there is so much to see and do. BBQ worked well. Kitchen had everything we needed to self cater. No restaurants in walking distance and groceries in Yosemite village so planning required. If you head for the village in summer you need to do so early to park.

Jeff was really helpful when we needed him and easily contactable. Master bedroom was amazing and really comfortable. Kids found two other beds on the firm side of comfort but that is probably just their taste and preference. Loads of space for three adults and a 16 year old. Clean and tidy and as advertised.

We loved Yosemite park and was one of the highlights of our three week road trip. This house was great for more sightseeing but also to chill in which we needed as well.

Thank you for a great stay.

Superb house in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

This is a spacious, high-specification, well maintained house situated close to the start of Glacier Point road and only a few miles from the valley itself. We really enjoyed our stay and would gladly stay here again, the owners were very helpful when we needed them.
