If the weather turns gloomy, you have the choice of several channels of cable. In addition, there are DVDs or board games to choose from.
Heith and Lacey both grew up right next door in Wyoming and have been living in Custer for 2 years now. Lacey spent many summers in the Black Hills while growing up, so living here kind of feels like being home. Heith was new to the Black Hills but finds that it fits his lifestyle. He spends much of his free time hunting, when he isn't working on cars. They both enjoy getting out to hike, camp and fish within the beauty that the Black Hills have to offer.
Heith and Lacey purchased this cottage in 2015
This property is newly renovated.
Owners very nice and will work with you. No problems, would highly recommend.
The cottage is perfect for our family of four. Its location is great for us to visit Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Badlands, Custer state park, and Wind Cave national park. It has all the essentials and the decoration is very cute. The house is clean, quiet and in walking distance to groceries and restaurants. Lacey has been very responsive and helpful. Would totally recommend the place!
Before we made the trip, my email questions to Heith & Lacey were answered quickly. My husband & I brought 4 kids, ages 19, 17, 14, & 12. The cottage was cozy for that many big people for 4 nights. BUT we decided it was perfect. It was SPOTLESSLY clean & it smelled nice. =) The kitchen was stocked with supplies we needed for easy cooking. The queen bed was too soft for our preference, but I realize there are a million preferences in mattresses. The location was lovely for getting to see sights such as Mt Rushmore & Jewel Cave, plus shopping. You must try Black Hills Burger & Bun ... we were amazed at the great tastes there. Pizza Works was also delicious. In the evenings, we felt like crashing on the couch to watch something like Food Network or History Channel ... but the offerings were very limited. If you are like us, I suggest you bring DVDs (there is a DVD player) or plan to watch Netflix on your laptop. This is such a small complaint though. We were really thrilled with this little cottage. We would absolutely stay there again. Thank you, Heith & Lacey!
Very clean and close to town to walk to dinner. Great time!
The property is definitely convenient to downtown and activities South Dakota has to offer. However, the skillets are really bad and need replaced. There are no mixing bowls and a cutting board would be convenient. Unfortunately the queen bed is so soft we had to retro fit the chair cushion for support. Usually one doesn't spend a lot of time indoors anyhow so keep your expectations in check.
Cute cottage right in the heart of Custer City. Perfect for our family to use for our trip to Custer State park. Nicely decorated. We would stay here again!
Little Picket Cottage is conveniently located 3 blocks from downtown Custer. Our wonderful town offers several great restaurants to relax and enjoy a meal after a full day of sight-seeing. Several restaurants are walking distance from the cottage.
The local grocery store is 2 blocks around the corner from Little Picket Cottage. There is also a carwash, Subway and a restaurant called Pizza Mill on that end of town. Maria's Mexican is a food truck just a short 2 blocks away, located next the the local VFW. Walk one more block to find full-service restaurants, bars and coffee shops. The list includes - Our Place, Baker's Bakery, Pizza Hut, Sage Creek Grille, The Custer Wolf, The Bank, Begging Burro, Buglin' Bull, Black Hills Burger and Bun, Pizza Works and more! You may want to hop in your car to eat at Dakota Cowboy, Purple Pie Place, Custer Corral, Chophouse on the Rocks or Captain's Table.
Wildlife abound all around with the entrance to Custer State Park just 3 miles down the road. If you enjoy a great hike or bike ride, Mickelson trail is 2.5 blocks to the east of the cottage. Several beautiful lakes are within a 10 to 20 minute drive.
