About Mercedes Compton

My husband, Craig, and I have been married for 30 years and love Humboldt County! We met while attending Humboldt State University in the 1980s and stayed here. We have a beautiful son and daughter-in-law; we love to visit them and the rest of our family up and down the coast. Traveling also allows us to indulge in our passion for mid century furniture and decor. The 'hunt' for that iconic mid century piece is what keeps us going, and we can think nothing better than to share some of our finds with you! It's interesting how we look back in time to find the most modern way of living - look to the past to create interiors that are in the vanguard of fashion. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do. We are only minutes away and are available if you have any questions or issues during your stay.

Why Mercedes Compton chose North Coast California

Eureka is peppered with wonderful mid century homes. We fell in love with this mid century home because of its beautiful architecture. The home was built in 1959 and designed by Walter K. Blackburn.

What makes this house unique

This home is situated on a dead-end street with a beautiful, natural redwood setting. You will enjoy walking in this neighborhood, and Henderson Center is only s few blocks away; there you will find a drug store, hair salon, sandwich shop, bakery, post office, thrift stores, pet store, and banking institutions. The Farmer's Market is also found there during the Spring/Summer where you can buy fresh organic produce!

I can't think of a better vacation rental experience

  • 5 of 5

6 adult couples had a 4-night family reunion here, and we all agreed it was top-notch. It was in a very quiet neighborhood and was surrounded by redwoods. The entire house, down to the dishes, was decorated in mid-century modern, but the kitchen and baths were entirely updated. Everything we needed was there, the beds were comfortable, Mercedes was very accommodating, and we agreed that we will return to this house the next time we come to Eureka to visit our sister.

Lots of light from skylights and big windows, easy parking, nice gardens (Mercedes, better cut that bamboo that is encroaching over the fence onto your property!). There is a hot tub, but we didn't use it. I assume it was as good as everything else in the house. Great experience!

Amazing!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was awesome about this place! The house was immaculate and well-stocked with amenities. It was located in a very quiet/private neighborhood, but minutes away from everything in Eureka. It was our first/best family vacation ever! Couldn't have asked for anything more. We hope to return!

Five is not enough stars!

  • 5 of 5

This home is like walking into a museum of 1961, except with all the more modern conveniences since then thrown in for comfort. We were blown away when we walked in the door, and the stay just kept getting better. Our only issue is that we wanted to stay longer, but couldn't because of other plans.

Uniquely incredible house

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in this house was wonderful! The attention to cleanliness and detail was amazing! The house itself was privately nestled in a beautiful spot. the house was beautifully decorated and very clean. There was nothing this house lacked or that the owners didn't supply right down to a local bottle of wine! We will definitely be back for our next family stay in Eureka!
