About Mercedes Compton

My husband, Craig, and I have been married for 32 years and love Humboldt County! We met while attending Humboldt State University in the 1980s and stayed here. We have a beautiful son and daughter-in-law; we love to visit them and the rest of our family up and down the coast. Traveling also allows us to indulge in our passion for mid century furniture and decor. The 'hunt' for that iconic mid century piece is what keeps us going, and we can think nothing better than to share some of our finds with you! It's interesting how we look back in time to find the most modern way of living - look to the past to create interiors that are in the vanguard of fashion. We hope you enjoy our home as much as we do. We are only minutes away and are available if you have any questions or issues during your stay.

Why Mercedes Compton chose Eureka

Eureka is peppered with wonderful mid century homes. We fell in love with this mid century home because of its beautiful architecture. The home was built in 1959 and designed by Walter K. Blackburn.

What makes this house unique

This home is situated on a dead-end street with a beautiful, natural redwood setting. You will enjoy walking in this neighborhood, and Henderson Center is only s few blocks away; there you will find a drug store, hair salon, sandwich shop, bakery, post office, thrift stores, pet store, and banking institutions. The Farmer's Market is also found there during the Spring/Summer where you can buy fresh organic produce!

Wonderful vacation home with thoughtful amenities

  • 5 of 5

This home worked perfectly for a small family get together in June. The home is on a quiet street and is very close to the redwood park. The backyard was nice for bbqs, horse shoes and visiting. The house has very comfortable beds and pillows which is an oversight by many property owners but very important to many of my family! There were toiletries in each bathroom and the much appreciated touch of coffee stocked in the kitchen. We would stay here again. The redwood trees in the backyard are a spectacular sight too!

Relax in the quiet woods

  • 5 of 5

We had a multi part Oregon/Cali vacation with Eureka in the middle. What we got was an extremely comfortable stay in a really cool house. The house itself is art. The house is curated well to keep within the theme of the mid mod. We even loved looking at the original plan in the laundry area. Beyond the cool factor, this house is not a museum where we were afraid to let our kids walk around. We were so comfortable and easily at home. After some hard days hiking, we had the best sleep of our vacation in the well appointed bedrooms. The renovated kitchen had everything we needed for the meals shared here. The cherry on the sundae was relaxing after hikes and showers in the hot tub with the amazing views of the backyard redwoods.

Mercedes was fantastic at details when we booked and helping guide us in after dark on the first night. Great communication! The downtown was a minutes away drive with some fun restaurants, too.

After our multi part vacation, we enjoyed this segment so much and was the most relaxing by far.

Stunning house and yard!

  • 5 of 5

The house was wonderful! The high ceilings made it feel even more spacious than it already was, tons of natural sunlight coming into the house, beautiful and tranquil backyard with giant trees, great deck and hot-tub! The beds were comfortable, the house was spotlessly clean and well appointed with everything needed for bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen areas. The owners checked in via text messaging during our stay to make sure all was well (which it was!). Cute little town of Eureka was fun to explore and is fairly close to numerous national redwood parks.. I would highly recommend this house for travelers wanting to explore northern california. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Amazing house in redwoods

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED our stay in the mid century modern. The house itself is beautiful and we immediately felt right at home. The backyard is a little paradise. It’s so cool to hangout in the hot tub while looking at redwoods. Everything is very nice quality and the place was very clean. We accidentally left something and they immediately told us and offered to send it to us. This is one of my top places we’ve rented and we have been to over 20 states and we always rent vrbos. This is definitely on our come back to list! Thanks again for everything!

Excellent, well-appointed Redwoods Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I have never written a review before, but I have stayed at many properties. I felt compelled to write a great review as we had such a wonderful stay and felt right at home. The house is extremely clean and nice, and fit our family of 5 perfectly. We enjoyed the peaceful location and the ability to see redwoods right out the door! The property is spacious and has great natural light. It was also extremely well stocked, with everything we could hope for in terms of kitchen essentials, linens, etc. If you are vacationing in this area, I highly recommend!
