Overview

About the property

Large rustic home, 4.5 bedrooms, large pool and patios, on the beach

Escape the hustle and bustle of every day life in this historic, rustic beach-front home. Built in 1925, by George Albert Zabriskie, this beautiful home was often the party location for several of Zabriskie's friends, including the Rockefellers!

The estate sits on an expansive stretch of land, in the non-driving zone of the World's Most Famous Beach, making it virtually your own private beach.

The Doldrums is approximately 3600sq. ft., has a pool, decorative fountains, authentic Spanish tiles and design, a beautiful courtyard to welcome you and the property is enclosed by wrought iron gates. As beautiful as it is, it has an older, rustic feel so if you are looking for 5 star/pristine conditions, this may not be the home for you. On the back lawn there is a large tiki hut perfect getting married, or for reading a book, watching the dolphins go by, counting the pelicans as they fly overhead, or simply relaxing and being at peace.

The home is for sale also, so if you have any interest, please inquire.

Loved it!!!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing home! Awesome views of the Atlantic, house is directly on the beach. The house is huge with tons of character. Plenty big enough for 3 families with several kids. We spent the day at the beach and the night swimming in the pool. The large bedrooms provided plenty of space. The sounds from the ocean at night from the balcony were amazing. Nothing about this home was disappointing. Would absolutely stay here again and again! We had an awesome time staying at the Doldrums!!

We dealt with a few minor glitches in the home, but overall the setting for the wedding was beautiful, private, and very peaceful!

Awesome venue for wedding

  • 5 of 5

Well, how I can start! We started plan our wedding in March and we chose this beautiful Spanish style house right on the beach. We wanted an outdoor wedding ceremony and reception, and we had all set for that day: October 8, 2016. We rented this house for 4 days so we could have our wedding and a couple of extra days to enjoy the beach and the pool with close family and friends after the wedding. But we got an uninvited guest -Hurricane Matthew- who decided to show up in Daytona Beach area one day before. However, we came up with plan B, C, D to have our wedding in this house. Lara Butera, the property manager was helpful with every idea to make this work on Saturday but unfortunately, we had to cancel all our wedding plans and mini-vacations in this gorgeous house after a mandatory evacuation that was issued in Ormond Beach two days before the wedding day.

We visited the house several times to have all set for our wedding, so we can tell how beautiful and nice this house is. It's right on the beach, you just have to walk out from the backyard and feel the sand and the ocean in your toes. And you know what is the best part of it? There is no car access to this side of the beach, so you can enjoy all this beauty in all its glory. The house also has a large pool so it's kind of a private resort with all the accommodation that you ask for great vacation.

The location is close to the main accesses of Ormond Beach, Granada Blvd and A1A, that will take you to any touristic place around, but it's secluded enough so you can have a quiet rest.

The house inside is gorgeous in every way. Spanish style with murals, bricks and colors, and really comfortable with big windows in the living room to see the ocean while you're watching tv.

Since our reservation was canceled by a natural event that escaped from the hands of both sides, they gave us the option to reschedule the date of our reservation at no additional cost, but we decided to get married on Sunday Oct. 9 after the hurricane had passed in a different location (the area where the house is was still under warning after the hurricane, so we couldn't use it). Lara without hesitation made a total refund of what we paid and it was immediate.

Thank you, Lara for all your help even when we couldn't enjoy the property as we planned.

Owner's Response: I was happy to help you as much as I could. I feel terribly that Mother Nature wouldn't cooperate, but if it's good luck for rain on your wedding day, I'd say you will be married forever!!!! We always strive to do the best we can for our guests! Hope to see you all again someday!
