Renter Beware

  • 1 of 5

This property has the potential to be an amazing rental but seems to be very neglected. I sent a detailed account of the conditions we found to the owner, asking for a partial refund, a refund for the cleaning fee we paid or the very least for an apology. She offered neither. She sent me an e-mail asking if we were at the property and could she send her house cleaner out. She must not have read my e-mail because I explained why I did not report this until we had left. Our stay started by having to sit out in the sun for 2 hours past check in time because the house was not ready. While the property is dated, it is still charming, at first glance. As the week went on we found more and more dirt, grime and filth. We had to wash every surface and every dish before using them. This house is for 14 people. There were 6 of us and the kitchen was barely stocked enough for us. Same with toilet paper etc. The pool was dirty and it was 6 days later before the pool person came to clean it. Leaving us sitting in a hot house whose air conditioner could barely keep up, for 2 hours. The deck around the pool shook and felt as if it would fall at any moment. We took pictures of everything along the way. We discovered things everyday. 4 in our party left early. We did our best to make the most of it and for us the saving grace was our outings to Shasta Caverns, renting a Patio Boat from Antlers and spending the day on Lake Shasta and fishing on Whiskytown Lake. While we don't recommend this property, we do recommend the area. It was a blast. We have rented homes in many cities and states. For far less money and for far more but we have never rented a house that was so dirty and neglected. There were a few red flags along the way that I failed to see. One, we found the property on here but was asked by the owners to go to their personal site to rent. The price was higher on their site than here and they ended up honoring that. Next the last review on here was from 2014 and finally, a few weeks before we left we were asked to all sign a liability waiver before we could stay. Something that has never been asked of us, ever. If there were just a few things that got "missed" by the cleaners, we would have had them come in and take care of it. But this place has been neglected for some time.

We finally tried to just have a sense of humor about it and took bets as to our chances for survival between getting sick from the crime or having the deck crash down around us.

Don't rent!

Great Family Cabin - a Luxury to have the pool!

  • 5 of 5

Our party of 8 had an amazing week at the Big Family Cabin. Even though the water levels were low there was still plenty of water to play in. Would have been a whole lot better if our boat would've agreed to run but apparently it was on vacation too. This gave us an opportunity to enjoy the pool. Mother Nature gave us an awesome thunder and lightening storm which made our stay even better. This home offers plenty of room for a larger group than what we had. We thoroughly enjoyed the ping pong table and the basketball hoop. One of the best treats was that the beds were very comfortable. The air conditioned home offered a great escape from the heat and made sleeping at night so restful. We have already placed our request for our stay for summer 2015 - can't wait!

Comfortable and homey cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Our two families, consisting of a total of six, arrived at the Big Family Cabin on July 4th. The house was clean and well supplied! We were even greeted with a lovely treat of chocolates and Apple Cider! The location of the cabin was a fantastic jumping point for all of our Shasta locations. We visited the Caverns, Shasta Dam, Whiskeytown, Mt. Shasta, Dunsmuir and Lassen Volcanic Park. After each day's hot outdoor activities, it was so nice to return to the cabin and enjoy a dip in the pool while the a/c cooled the house down. The views were stunning - whether by day, but especially at night for star gazing. We made some lasting memories on this trip, and the cabin played a huge part in all of that!

Great Location with Wonderful Pool

  • 4 of 5

We had a bad start to what ended up being a great vacation to the Family Reunion Cabin. The area was evacuated the day we were to arrive do to a forrest fire. We could not get into the cabin for 2 nights. We were lucky that the cabin was fine. The cabin would have gotten an excellent review if the dishwasher would have been working. With 11 people doing dishes by hand is a lot of work. The sleeping arrangements were perfect and the decks, pool and hottub were awesome. When we weren't at the lake we were out back on the deck and swimming. The owners were very helpful and kind throughout the fire issues and they were very good to work with on setting everything up prior to our arrival. We didn't inform them until our return that the dishwasher wasn't working and they are already preparing to have it replaced, at which time the cabin will be perfect. We our already looking at renting again next year.

Cozy Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks for the well equipped, clean and cozy home! This was our second trip here and we loved it. We spent most of our day out on the patio area enjoying the scenery, swimming and barbequing. We saw a few deer and enjoyed the stars at night. Can’t wait to visit again! Thank you!
