Abinitio Tranquillo-The Name Says It All!

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Abinitio Tranquillo which means, Peace From The Beginning, is exactly what we have set out to create for ourselves and our guests. From our winding road that takes you past gigantic ferns, magnificent Redwoods and abundant wildlife; tranquility is just a step outside your car door.

This beautiful hilltop home offers the best of both worlds. Ocean views and distant ocean lullabies without the roar of the ocean keeping you awake at night and, yet, we are just down the hill from the beach. Watch the deer nibble nearby and wild turkeys gobble and strut as ocean vistas wash away your worries as you relax on the huge back deck. The front courtyard offers a quiet peaceful place for coffee as you listen to the fountain bubble amougst the gorgeous flowers.

This beautifully furnished two bedroom home with it's giant loft sleeps six. Enjoy the airiness of the master bedroom with its new king-size mattress and four-poster bed. A large window seat makes you feel as if you are high in the trees staring out at the ocean that lays before you. The master bath features a large walk-in closet with a shower for two and radiant heat flooring.

The loft offers a large comfy brand new Indonesian day-bed with twin mattress that cuddles the body while the library stimulates the mind.

The ground-floor bedroom has queen size mattress with subtle soothing colors and beach-theme decor. A sliding door to the outside deck means you can watch the sunset in privacy if you wish. Across the hall is the bathroom with radiant heat flooring that keep your tootsies warm and a large jacuzzi tub which might just warm your heart and that of your loved one during a romantic evening. There is also a single roll-away mattress.

The living room features elegant furniture including a sofa window seat, television/dvd combo and stereo with a record player. We also have high speed internet and we have a library of over 100 DVD's to cuddle up with one another when we have some down time. There is also a closet full of puzzles and games and we have an Amazon Fire Stick for the tv.

The cheery and bright kitchen features a convection oven, microwave, dishwasher, and cappuccino making machine with brand new dishes and pots and pans. A new refrigerator (2016) with ice maker and a bar sink complete the picture.

With easy access to Gualala and with its trendy shops, artist galleries and groceries (approx 10 minutes), Annapolis Winery and Alexander's Restaurant you have everything you need at your fingertips. And with our neighbor's house available for rent next door you can easily hold that family reunion that you have always been dreaming about.

It is with extreme sorrow that we have to say that we no longer allow pets (plural) due to abuse of our home by animals. At times we will allow one animal on a case-by-case basis but beware if your pet does any damage you will be wholly and completely responsible.

About Cheryl Dieter

Well that picture you see is at our 25th anniversary almost five years ago.

We have five children of various ethnicities and ages. We also have3 did we get so old?

We are both native Midwesterners. He is originally from Iowa and I was born in Michigan.

I first saw Sea Ranch in 1979 when I was married to my first husband. We looked at the brochure and my heart sunk because I thought I would never ever be able to afford to live in this beautiful area. Fast forward about 35 years and I still am not living here but hope to eventually when we retire. Dreams really can come true.

Cheryl Dieter purchased this house in 2012

Why Cheryl Dieter chose Sea Ranch

We bought at Sea Ranch because it is our absolute without a doubt favorite place to be in the entire world. This is where we go to re-discover ourselves and our family. It is where we go to relax and unwind.

I have a unique perspective because I write travel articles and have been fortunate to have traveled all over. But by far my favorite place is right here at Sea Ranch.

We also bought this property because one of our children may need to continue living with us into adulthood and this property can have an artist studio connected to it. The people here are wonderful and we think they will be good to our son when he is an adult.

What makes this house unique

We bought this place because of the lovely front garden. That sold us which is incredibly funny because I do not have a green thumb. None the less we can still have our dreams!

We also love the fact that we are surrounded by beautiful redwood trees but have an ocean view. I know some love being almost on top of the ocean but I am a light sleeper and the loud booming crash of the waves keeps me up at night while the whisper of the redwoods lulls me to sleep.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a fabulous place in the trees and the ocean view is pretty great too. Everything is brand new, extremely clean and comfortable. It belongs in a magazine; it was just that pretty. There were games galore for the kids and lots of exploring to do. The Sea Ranch pools were a big hit. We will be back next year. By far the best property we have rented and the price can't be beat!

Lovely Property, Somewhat Disorganized

  • 3 of 5

If you want a daily learning experience in a lovely setting, stay here. It was confirmed at booking, and later before arriving, that we would receive 3 vehicle passes (you can be cited without one, etc.). We arrived and found only one. After hours of phone exchanges with the owner we were instructed to go to the HOA office the next morning to pick the other two up (after we unsuccessfully tried to break into the owner’s locked closet, at her request, where other passes were kept). Seems this error was the “housekeeper’s fault”. Then we later found that the dishwasher did not clean the first night’s dishes. We understood why when the first two showers we took were cold. Following the myriad of instructions left in almost every room, we confirmed that the water heater was, indeed, on correctly, and there should have been hot water. Could not reach the maintenance man, but the water heater suddenly “sprang to life” without our further input and we had hot water for the remainder of our stay. The many instructions sometimes were in conflict with each other. An example was that we were to begin washing the towels before we left. All went well until 15 minutes before our departure. When we were to begin washing the towels we found a sign with the washing machine instructing us to NOT leave the water on! So, we left the dirty towels behind.

The final blow came when, the day after arriving home, the owner sent us a text stating that “a dog peed through the back bedroom numerous times. My housekeeper is sending pictures which I will send to you.” I immediately called the owner to inform her that none of us owned a dog, we did not have a dog on premises, and that a few of our family were very allergic to dogs. This explains why some of our family was on antihistamines the entire stay, and that after stretching on the living room rug my wife arose covered with dog hair. The only further communication I have had with the owner was a week later when she informed me, through VRBO, that my security deposit had been fully refunded. Was the “dog pee” another “housekeeper error”?

This is a lovely setting and house. If you decide to stay here, check out everything carefully when you arrive. We would like to return, especially since we would not have another 5-day learning curve. We could then fully enjoy the beauty of this property.

Owner's Response: Yes, it was disorganized and I have apologized to this guest. Between moving, a kid in the ER, etc. the week was not a good one. I should have just not allowed bookings during this crazy period of time. I should have known better. That said, I never heard about the hotter and have never had that happen before nor has anyone complained so I am a little confused. Finally, regarding "housekeeper error" I live 8 hours away and depend on my housekeeper to keep me informed. So, yes, it was "housekeeper error."

Perfect for our family!

  • 5 of 5

My husband loves to run trails and my son loves animals. This was the best of both worlds. Gorgeous trails to get a good workout. Then driving around and seeing deer, Turkey, seals and whales. It was a very relaxing vacation for us. House was perfectly located with everything you need. We loved having a fire every night. The beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed the beds being on opposite ends of the house. We loved our Sea Ranch vacation.

Great stay, quiet and comfy house, beautiful nature!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 3 nights at Cheryl’s house in February. It was a very nice stay! Cheryl’s house is perfectly located, very quiet and welcoming. We felt immediately comfortable and had a great time visiting the surroundings, walking along the beach and on small trails among the forest. I highly recommend this place! Thank you Cheryl.

In the Middle of Nature's Beauty

  • 5 of 5

This lovely getaway is surrounded by breathtaking beauty. We hiked along the coast, went tidepooling and saw starfish, hiked among redwoods, visited a creamery, toured a goat cheese farm and winery. Got a massage! Then view from the dining room meant at least two home cooked meals at sunset. This is a place that still has a good vibes only kind of feel to it. A healing, restful place to relax with a glass of wine and plan the next day's adventure. We loved Bryans Natural Preserve, where we were kissed by a giraffe. We loved Penney Royal Farm where I kissed the baby goats. Lots of lovely vineyards. An apple farm to visit. Make sure to visit inland area a bit. We loved the wildness of the coastline and the mind boggling resilience if the redwoods at Hendy Park. Must see the Sea Ranch Chapel, a special spiritual place. Lots of wildlife. Five days went by too quickly. We missed kayaking on the Russian Riiver. Next time.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you explored the area and inland too. So many people do not go beyond Sea Ranch to see the incredible beauty that is all over the area. Glad you had a good time.
