Abinitio Tranquillo-The Name Says It All!

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

Abinitio Tranquillo which means, Peace From The Beginning, is exactly what we have set out to create for ourselves and our guests. From our winding road that takes you past gigantic ferns, magnificent Redwoods and abundant wildlife; tranquility is just a step outside your car door.

This beautiful hilltop home offers the best of both worlds. Ocean views and distant ocean lullabies without the roar of the ocean keeping you awake at night and, yet, we are just down the hill from the beach. Watch the deer nibble nearby and wild turkeys gobble and strut as ocean vistas wash away your worries as you relax on the huge back deck. The front courtyard offers a quiet peaceful place for coffee as you listen to the fountain bubble amougst the gorgeous flowers.

This beautifully furnished two bedroom home with it's giant loft sleeps six. Enjoy the airiness of the master bedroom with its new king-size mattress and four-poster bed. A large window seat makes you feel as if you are high in the trees staring out at the ocean that lays before you. The master bath features a large walk-in closet with a shower for two and radiant heat flooring.

The loft offers a large comfy brand new Indonesian day-bed with twin mattress that cuddles the body while the library stimulates the mind.

The ground-floor bedroom has queen size mattress with subtle soothing colors and beach-theme decor. A sliding door to the outside deck means you can watch the sunset in privacy if you wish. Across the hall is the bathroom with radiant heat flooring that keep your tootsies warm and a large jacuzzi tub which might just warm your heart and that of your loved one during a romantic evening. There is also a single roll-away mattress.

The living room features elegant furniture including a sofa window seat, television/dvd combo and stereo with a record player. We also have high speed internet and we have a library of over 100 DVD's to cuddle up with one another when we have some down time. There is also a closet full of puzzles and games and we have an Amazon Fire Stick for the tv.

The cheery and bright kitchen features a convection oven, microwave, dishwasher, and cappuccino making machine with brand new dishes and pots and pans. A new refrigerator (2016) with ice maker and a bar sink complete the picture.

With easy access to Gualala and with its trendy shops, artist galleries and groceries (approx 10 minutes), Annapolis Winery and Alexander's Restaurant you have everything you need at your fingertips. And with our neighbor's house available for rent next door you can easily hold that family reunion that you have always been dreaming about.

It is with extreme sorrow that we have to say that we no longer allow pets (plural) due to abuse of our home by animals. At times we will allow one animal on a case-by-case basis but beware if your pet does any damage you will be wholly and completely responsible.

About Cheryl Dieter

Well that picture you see is at our 25th anniversary almost five years ago.

We have five children of various ethnicities and ages. We also have3 grandchildrey...how did we get so old?

We are both native Midwesterners. He is originally from Iowa and I was born in Michigan.

I first saw Sea Ranch in 1979 when I was married to my first husband. We looked at the brochure and my heart sunk because I thought I would never ever be able to afford to live in this beautiful area. Fast forward about 35 years and I still am not living here but hope to eventually when we retire. Dreams really can come true.

Cheryl Dieter purchased this house in 2012

Why Cheryl Dieter chose North Coast California

We bought at Sea Ranch because it is our absolute without a doubt favorite place to be in the entire world. This is where we go to re-discover ourselves and our family. It is where we go to relax and unwind.

I have a unique perspective because I write travel articles and have been fortunate to have traveled all over. But by far my favorite place is right here at Sea Ranch.

We also bought this property because one of our children may need to continue living with us into adulthood and this property can have an artist studio connected to it. The people here are wonderful and we think they will be good to our son when he is an adult.

What makes this house unique

We bought this place because of the lovely front garden. That sold us which is incredibly funny because I do not have a green thumb. None the less we can still have our dreams!

We also love the fact that we are surrounded by beautiful redwood trees but have an ocean view. I know some love being almost on top of the ocean but I am a light sleeper and the loud booming crash of the waves keeps me up at night while the whisper of the redwoods lulls me to sleep.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a fabulous place in the trees and the ocean view is pretty great too. Everything is brand new, extremely clean and comfortable. It belongs in a magazine; it was just that pretty. There were games galore for the kids and lots of exploring to do. The Sea Ranch pools were a big hit. We will be back next year. By far the best property we have rented and the price can't be beat!

Peaceful Haven

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house in the trees! Hope to come back for a longer stay.

Had some fog, some drizzle and some sun. All gorgeous in different ways in the forest and at the beach.

One night was clear with so many stars visible!

Nothing negative to say about this place or any of our time at Sea Ranch and the surrounding area.

A slice of heaven on earth!

  • 5 of 5

There are not enough superlatives to describe this spacious, elegant, immaculate, serene house set among towering redwoods with a terrace in the back of the house where you can touch a redwood. From the terrace you look down a canyon of redwoods with an unobstructed absolutely spectacular view of the ocean. There were whitecaps on the ocean which is about a mile and half away but just a gentle breeze on the large terrace where nature sings all day long. Ravens soar, through the canyon and jump on the roof of the house in the morning. A sunken living room with soaring vaulted ceilings, a master bedroom with a king bed and 2 large picture windows that have the same view as the terrace. An enclosed front area with garden that gets sun under a canopy of redwoods. The house is elegant, well appointed and has everything one needs to cook in the kitchen. There are many books. There are many dvd's to watch if one is so inclined. The owner Cheryl was wonderful and responded promptly to all inquiries. Sea Ranch offers innumerable trails, two big lap pools and the town of Gualala about 7 miles north of the house is quaint. I have never been to a more peaceful house and wished I owned it about a minute after I walked in. Our cats Venus and Spartacus loved it. If you want to relax in a serene, beautiful magical setting Ab Initio is where you want to go!!!!

Tranquility amonst the redwoods

  • 5 of 5

If you need a place to pause and rest, this is it. Luckily the weather was perfect, bright sunny days, wildflowers in abundance, refreshing breeze so I'm sure that helped. Don't know what it would be like in heavy fog. The courtyard of this house is enchanting. There's a view of the ocean at a distance, great to watch the fog bank over the ocean one twilight as the colors changed, the fog morphed into all these different configurations.

The property had some very nice features however, it needs some tender loving care from the owners.

  • 3 of 5

The initial access was very confusing and required an urgent call to the owner for clarification. Apparently, other renters had the same problem.

A lot of small stuff like burned out light bulbs, outdated appliances (you have to light the stove with a match ) no ice in the ice maker etc.

Also, cleaning service needs attention. Coffee maker wasn't cleaned nor was the fireplace. No soap in the bathroom.

Owner's Response: Yes, we had two renters in a row who could not figure out how to use a simple lock box. This was one of them. Never had that issue before but because of this instructions are now posted on the box and sent along with the paperwork. We never keep the ice maker on due to the possibility of flooding because of malfunction which is why we have the note on the fridge about turning on the ice maker. We supply hand soap at all sinks. We do not supply shampoo and the like. I am not sure what light bulbs this guest is talking about but right before her visit paid an electric company to change all the light bulbs and smoke detector batteries in the house. Every once in a while a visitor does not realize that the lights are on dimmers and they need to slide the dimmer switch up for illumination if a previous guest has created "mood" lighting. We supply all matches to the stove so it should not be a problem. I will bring the cleaning issues to the attention of the housekeeper. Unfortunately, when there are people coming in the same day someone is leaving, it can be hectic esp. if the previous renters do not leave on the time agreed upon. I am not sure what she means about tender loving care...all rooms have been repainted in the last two years, year old refridgerator, two year old hardwood floor in living room, newly stained bathroom vanities, new linens every year, etc. Most people don't keep their houses this up to date. Neither do most hotels.
