The Mountain House is 2,000 square feet and has three bedrooms with queen beds, two with private baths, and one bathroom downstairs. Two of the bedrooms have pullout sofa sleepers. The Mt. House has a full kitchen, living room, dining area, and porch with barbecue. There is also a deck attached to the Mountain House.
Out of the Wild Guesthouse offers scenic Denali views in a private hilltop setting with the opportunity to learn about the history of mountain climbing in Alaska.
The entire property, consisting of three separate buildings, can be rented for events.
Enjoy the local performing arts, artist co-op, brewery, and restaurants in the village of Talkeetna, or spend time on the miles of trails, nearby lakes, or Talkeetna River.
All of the buildings at the Guesthouse are custom built by the owner. You can rent one of the buildings, or all three for larger gatherings and special events.
The property is spacious enough to be suitable for private gatherings, parties and weddings. Outdoor fire area, several lawns, deck, and large boulders.
Close to the village of Talkeetna, the property offers privacy and beautiful views.
My wife and I stayed at the Mountain House along with our friends who have four small children. The house is beautiful and has great views of the Alaska Range mountains. It was well stocked with cooking utensils, sheets & towels, soap & shampoo, coffee & creamer, and several condiments.
The owner is very friendly and was eager to make sure our visit was an enjoyable one. Her husband also has several pictures and artifacts displayed from a long career in mountain climbing and this is a great touch to the decor!
The quaint village of Talkeetna is only a ten minute drive away and there were several gift shops, restaurants, and vendors selling merchandise. You can also book aircraft, watercraft and ATV tours and several businesses are available to choose from.
We definitely plan to return to the area and would book this property again!
Our family group of 12 people (including two small children) rented the three bedroom house as well as the two bedroom unit next door. We enjoyed having such a great view of Denali and the surrounding mountains from our deck. The house was well stocked and the owners were available to answer our questions about the area.
Four of us stayed at the Mountain house and were thrilled about it when we arrived. In my experience I usually expect less than what I see online for vacation rentals. But the Mountain House was amazing and exceeded our expectations.
We woke up the first morning with a clear view of McKinley from our bedroom window! The house was clean, well stocked and quiet. It is off the main road a couple miles but there are quite a few other homes in the "neighborhood" so you don't feel like you are completely alone in the woods. The homes are close but not visible from out of the wild.
It was an amazing start to our Alaska trip, we ended up the trip on a cruise and wanted to start with an Alaskan wilderness experience and this fit that perfectly.
We stayed for two nights in the chalet, which is a very unique and private cabin that was perfect for two people. It had a full kitchen, bathroom, and a bed alcove in addition to the main room with big beautiful windows. We never wanted to leave and wish we could live there! Thank you for a fun trip with everything we needed and more! The main house looked gorgeous if we ever have a bigger group. Can't wait to come back :)
Out of the Wild is really a neat place. For clarification, the house does not contain six bedrooms and five bathrooms as this listing implies. There are actually three different structures on the property so you may be sharing the outdoor space with other people. We stayed in the largest of the three rental houses and thought it was both clean and comfortable. The owners met us when we arrived and were very kind.
We were lucky (or unlucky - depending on how you look at it!) enough to stay in Talkeetna during one of the warmest weeks of the summer with daytime highs in the mid 80s. There was only one fan in the Mountain House and many windows either did not open or did not have screens. Wow, it got uncomfortably hot inside! We would have spent more time outside but the mosquitoes were truly terrible. (Of course, the owners can't do anything about the bugs.)
There also seemed to be a problem with the hot water heater or boiler. Two of the four people in our group were able to get warm showers each day. The other two were left with nothing but very cold water. This would be the one thing that stops me from renting this property again - esp. if I am traveling with a larger group.
Complaints aside, the property has an amazing view of Mt. Foraker, Mt. Hunter, and Mt. McKinley. It was a great place for our out of state visitors to take in the beauty of Alaska. The owners brought us fresh milk and pastries which we really appreciated.
