The Beach is just the Beginning!

Palm Beach County has many beautiful beaches but the beach is just the beginning in Delray. Delray Beach sets itself apart from the rest of the area with an endless offering of other things to do.

Foodie Heaven and Celeb Spotting

Atlantic Avenue, the main artery of the city, is becoming known as a restaurant haven across the country. The mile long stretch heading to the beach is lined with every kind of food you could want. The outdoor café style dining & palm tree lined avenue makes for a beautiful thoroughfare to stroll down tasting various cuisines, or stop and enjoy the people watching. Don’t be surprised to see local resident Kevin James or his buddy Adam Sandler enjoying a meal or checking out a boutique. The great restaurants filter into the side streets and other parts of town so don’t let your search for amazing food stop there.

The Arts District

If it’s culture you’re into, you don’t have to jet off to the big cities to get a dose of art or history. Delray Beach is home to Artist’s Alley, an incubator of homegrown artists creating and showcasing their art in the town in which they find their inspiration. See original pieces and meet the creators. If galleries are more your speed than slow down and take a look at the assortment of galleries tucked throughout the town. Enter through the trademark arch on NE 2nd avenue into the Pineapple Grove Art District for a day of cafes, shopping and local art.

Get Your Culture On

Delray Beach has an interesting cultural history. A visit to the Spady Museum, one of the only African-American cultural history museums in the state, will provide some insight into the people that helped shape this Village by the Sea. A trip to the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens will land you in beautiful tranquility while offering another culture’s viewpoint on the history of this coastal settlement. For another museum I dare you to find in Manhattan or Chicago, coast into the Surf History Museum and see the rich history of surfing that has risen from the East Coast. With a great deal of information, cool memorabilia and boards it’s a great place to catch a break.

The cultural hub of the town is Old School Square. Here you can find art, theater, history and much more. Set within several restored 100 year old school buildings it offers a variety of venues showcasing something to satisfy everyone’s cultural palate. From art exhibits, Off Broadway performances, comedy acts, or concerts at the Gymnasium, there is something to excite the ears, eyes, or soul!

Delray Knows How to Throw a Party

Delray Beach is an entertainment hub. Scattered throughout the restaurants and bars, city venues, and even the streets, there is always something going on. With original amazing events such as the lighting of the Famous 100ft. Christmas Tree or Delray Affair, to some of the largest city events in the state like 4th of July and St. Patrick’s Day, the streets of Delray are always alive with excitement and intrigue. The city calendar is packed with fun activities for morning, noon and night so matter what time you choose your day to start or end is up to you.

Carting Around

With such a beautiful backdrop of beaches, parks, and palm trees it’s a great place be out and about. It’s a quaint walkable city but if you want to kick it up, and I’m not talking about a jog, rent a bike from Richwagen’s Bike shop which has been around for over 50 years. Ride up A1A or down the streets of our historic district taking in the sights. If you really want to see the town in style and comfort head over to Exhilaride and rent one of their top of the line golf carts. Delray is a golf cart friendly town, so you can putter around the beautiful back streets exploring, or pull up to your favorite café all while enjoying the refreshing beach breeze. Better yet, call on the Delray Downtowner, a free golf cart service.

Get Wet

If you are more comfortable off land, Delray offers a number of fun options to get wet. Explore the world under the warm waters of the Atlantic with an excursion from Scuba Center Delray. Check out one of the world’s largest coral reefs and the amazing sea life just below the surface. There are plenty of watersports above the waves as well, including paddle boarding, parasailing and kayaking. And then there is always a beautiful afternoon or sunset cruise along the intercostal waterway on the Lady Atlantic from Delray Yacht Cruises. Delray has you covered whatever you thirst for the outdoors may be.

South Florida, but not South Florida

This city really has its own feel and identity, and so much to offer… A break from South Florida in South Florida. I invite you to discover Delray Beach, an undiscovered jewel to most and a treasure to those who have.

A home away from home. Just bring your luggage & toothbrush we'll take care of the rest!

Delray Beach is a first-class resort destination and a diverse, vibrant, community situated on the Atlantic Ocean between Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. A small and intimate town with big city sophistication, Delray Beach is 30-45 minutes from Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale International Airports, and only an hour north of Miami. On July 25th, 2012, Delray Beach was named Most Fun Small Town in the USA by Rand McNally, USA Today and the Travel Channel on a nationally televised special, Best of the Road. There are plenty of reasons that Delray Beach won this award!

A popular destination for locals and visitors alike, Atlantic Avenue is a charming street scape filled with upscale shops, fine restaurants and nightly entertainment. Pleasant stay at Delray

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable and convenient property. For a couple it is the perfect size. The kitchen has an array of cookware in case you don't want to eat out every meal. The pool is clean. The A/C kept us cool. Be advised the fire department and rescue is right across the street. Most of the time the siren did not sound until the emergency vehicles had turned onto Atlantic Avenue. We never heard sirens during the nighttime hours.

There are no convenience or grocery stores nearby. Publix grocery is just over a mile and can be reached easily. Wine and Waves is just down the street on the left hand side and has a good variety of wines and liquors.

Delray has 3 things going for it. Beach, Dining, Shopping.

Be sure to visit Boston's for breakfast on weekends. The Wicked Bloody Mary is great and their signature breakfast is poached eggs with hollandaise. Several versions of this are available. Café Luna Rosa is good for breakfast everyday and is usually busy, but not a long wait for a table. Over The Bridge Café is also good and not so much hustle bustle. Their bloody Mary is made with wine and quite pleasing. Bonheme Bistro has some reviews raving about it, however, perhaps we weren't as lucky as some and gave it 2 stars on Yelp!

Walk along Atlantic and side streets and there is so much dining diversity I can't list them all. Many are street side dining. On weekends a good number have music pouring into the streets.

Boutique and clothing stores are abundant. Some are quite pricey and others more reasonable. My wife was able to find some summer clothing for not much money.

Also, there are several galleries on Atlantic featuring artwork and sculptures.

While there I recommend a visit to Lion Country Safari. Go early and you'll be able to see lions feasting on breakfast and plenty of other animals. Go later and lions are asleep (up to 20 hours a day). Also, take an inter coastal waterway cruise. The captain is a good narrator and dispenses abundant info on history and local lore. You'll find out the true meaning of Boca Raton. Now, I really liked the Silverball Museum (pinball) arcade. When we went it was $5 for all the pinball you can play from 11 AM to 5 PM. After 3 hours I couldn't play any longer. Machines as old as 50 years and some only a couple years are available for unlimited play. A full bar is available with bar snacks (pricey).

So, pack you swimwear and sunblock and enjoy Delray!
