About Marcel Gajownik

Love the outdoors and living off the land in Ely is a future dream.

Marcel Gajownik purchased this cabin in 2015

Why Marcel Gajownik chose Minnesota

Would you believe me if I told you this property found us? A perfect compromise between me and hubby....upscale inside while remote outside.

What makes this cabin unique

Part of property is considered Federal Forest..a quiet place to wander or truly explore. Enjoy NW sunset views from main floor balcony or just sit on a boulder to watch the sun setting.

While we are paddlers more than boaters, both are allowed on White Iron Lake which connects with Farm Lake, South Farm Lake, and Garden Lake. An easy paddle to Kawishiwi River is the perfect destination with ability to canoe direct into the BWCA...a dream come true.

While only 7 miles into Ely, our cabin feels like a million miles from civilization.

Beautiful Cabin

  • 4 of 5

We loved staying here! The kitchen is absolutely beautiful and well equipped. The living room is spacious and has great views. We loved how many blankets there were around, it helped us stay cozy. This cabin was tucked away, very secluded, but close enough to Ely to easily get groceries. It was tight sleeping 8 people, there were really only two beds, then one pull out bed and a mattress sort of thing that was on the floor. We didn't mind too much, but people did end up sleeping on couches because the pull out and mattress weren't really comfy for two.

Had fun

  • 4 of 5

The house is beautiful, when Talking to the owners on the phone they are extremely nice people, and I truly do believe they want you to have a nice experience. Modern appliances, Wifi, large smart TV lots of movies and games for the kids. The view is great the price is extremely fair. We did enjoy your stay and definitely would consider staying again,

I did not give it a five star because of these reasons . upon first entry of the home there was a odd smell through the house, we never could place it and throughout the weekend it did seem to go away or we got used to it. Whoever is doing the cleaning apparently never looks up. the floors the counters were all clean but there was cobwebs in the hall that we had to clean because we couldn't stand staring at them all weekend. The cleaning fee I think is a little steep, I get it there covering cleaning materials and the person's labor, soaps, laundry detergent. But upon leaving the renter is asked to Load all bed sheets into the washer and start the Landry, load any dirty dishes in the dishwasher and run it, fill the wood bucket outside and near the fireplace. Empty all garbages and take out.

We stayed here to go snowmobiling it worked good for us but it wasn't ideal, House sits on the waterfront on a bluff extremely steep big boulders very neat but not fun to climb up from the lake in the winter time. The owners suggested we should park our sleds on the lake, and they were right there is no real access to the trails from the driveway of the cabin unless you want to drive 2 miles down a tar Road. On the third day we did find a neighboring road that allowed us to drive the sleds up to the house, unfortunate was our last day.

Don't let my review discourage you from staying here, the positives defiantly out way the negatives.

Owner's Response: We are glad that your overall stay was enjoyable. And your satifaction is most important to Glenn and myself. It is not acceptable that there was an odor early in your visit and some cobwebs above. When we were there in early January, we noticed the odor for the first time as well. At that time we discovered the roof vent for the drain pipes were iced over due to the -35 mornings and was preventing the normal venting. Unfortunately it is more, and we will have a plumber investigating ASAP. The cobwebs will be passed along to HK ASAP...nobody likes to see that. Happy to know that you were comfortable keeping the snowmobiles down by the pier on the lake. The cabin on the ridge does provide tremendous views with privacy but the walk back to the cabin can be adventuresome if you take the direct path. We are sorry that there was a miscommunication regarding laundry. We do ask that a load of towels NOT sheets are begun before departure to accommodate a new arriving guest with the limited time for HK. The only work around would be to move check-out to 9:00am from 11:00am. But we have heard guests enjoy a more relaxed check-out morning. Again, thank you for your input. This helps us to provide the best experience possible for our guests. Marcel & Glenn

Perfect place for wintertime in Ely!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five had a great stay at this beautiful cabin on White Iron Lake. The wood stove kept us toasty warm while reading and watching movies, the kitchen was perfect for cooking all our meals, and the location was perfect for access to cross country skiing, hiking, and Downtown Ely.

Diamond in the rough Ely lodging

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect place for a family of 4-6, plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. Great location on lake, beautiful scenery as well. One of the things I loved the most was the deck; my family has come to Ely over MEA the last 3 years, what I love is how remote it is, and the deck allowed everyone to enjoy that remoteness, especially when the sun went down. Bundling up, enjoying the cool air, and watching the stars!

Again, great lodging experience, kitchen has everything, nice coal grill and plenty of space for groceries.

Can't wait to come back!
