About Gina McFadden
I have been coming "Up North" my whole life. As a child I played on the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan, climbed the dunes, and splashed in the rivers and lakes that grace the area. As an adult, I now watch my two girls enjoy the same magical experiences of my childhood. I manage two properties in the area - one on Platte Lake and one on Good Harbor. My passion is to help you and your family/friends enjoy the stunning beauty that is Northern Michigan.
Gina McFadden purchased this Cottage in 1967
Why Gina McFadden chose Benzie County
- all-sports Platte Lake - cottage is at the end of the cul de sac - private & spacious grassy yard - sandy beach with 100 feet of private frontage - shallow entry into the lake for safe & fun kid play

Great location on Platte Lake.
Cottage is at the end of a private drive.
Mattresses are due for an upgrade.
Hello, Ron. We are pleased you enjoyed the quite, private location of this special cottage.
Thank you for the feedback regarding the mattresses. You will be happy to hear that we have ordered new mattresses for the entire cottage.
We look forward to having you at Tocco's Catch sometime soon!
nice place, great lake
Clean cottage, beds and linens need to be replaced (aged). Beach requires cleanup as weeds have grown in.
Nice having canoes and paddles available.
Thank you for the feedback, Brian. Both good recommendations. Since your departure, the beach has been rototilled, leaving the sand free from weeds. We are also have replaced all of the mattresses and bedding.
So glad you enjoyed your stay and we are happy to make the enhancements you recommend.
Great Family Getaway!
Our family loved our time at Tocco's on Big Platte. Our kiddos are ages 6 and 9 and it was a perfect place for us all to unwind and enjoy the beauty that surrounds. We did miss the entrance road a few times on check-in day, but it's forever burned in our minds now, so we'll remember that the next time we stay.
The beauty of this spot is that it's secluded yet super close to everything you might want if you decide to hop in the car...super close to Riverside for ice cream, essentials, and floating/kayaking to Loon, a short drive to all of the tourist hot-spots, and not far from the drive-in for a family movie-night. Several quaint restaurants are nearby, but honestly, we LOVED making dinners at the cottage...grilling out on the charcoal grill nearly every night and just relaxing. The kitchen is nicely equipped for cooking most anything to enjoy on the picnic table provided on the deck that overlooks Big Platte.
The shallow entry and beach area were fantastic for the kiddos. The fire pit by the beach was also a great place to have nightly bonfires for s'mores making.
The inside of the cottage had everything we needed. There was more than enough space for our family of four to relax through the evening after fun-filled days. The beds were comfortable and the sunrises were spectacular to wake up to.
You can sense the love in this family-owned cottage, as it's apparent generations have made and shared a lot of special memories in that same spot.
We spent the week @ Tocco's Catch with our daughter and her 4 sons, ages 10 weeks - 7 yrs. old. It was the PERFECT spot for us. The cottage was so homey and relaxing, and it had some games & toys for the boys to play with, even though we didn't need them. We took some day trips to Sleeping Bear Dunes, the Platte River, and a couple of hikes near Empire and Glen Haven. We also spent a few days hanging out at the cottage. The lake was great for sailing! Having the water shallow so far out was perfect for our grandsons. They had a blast. The owner was wonderful to deal with and was very friendly and accomodating and knowledgeable of the area. We would DEFINITELY love to return to Tocco's Catch next year!
Great option for a retreat with friends
I spent a fantastic weekend here with four other friends. The location of the house was very convenient to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes, Leland and other points of interest we had on our list. The house is comfortable, clean and has a well equipped kitchen. I have to say the best part is the lake view, particularly in a quiet morning. It is stunning.
My family and I stay at Tocco's catch every summer and its the highpoint of our year. We have two children (ages 10 and 9) and have visited the lake for the past four summers. The lake has a gentle bottom and a long dock which makes it safe and family friendly. The cabin is close to wonderful Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Frankfort. In fact, we canoe from the dock to Lake Michigan on the Platte River. The house is comfortable and convenient.
Best walleye fishing spot on Platte Lake is located just off the end of the dock! Short distance to Lake Michigan beaches and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. Good Morning America recently named Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan 'The Most Beautiful Place in America'!
