About Bill Day

If you want to know the long story of how we chose Meadows of Dan you will have to go to Laurel Point Villa ( and read about how we bought that house in 2005. This year the family got larger with the addition of Todd and Caroline's daughter and we decided that if Joey and Kali and their two children all came at the same time, we would need more room. We've met so many nice people that have rented from us, it makes more sense to build another place rather than remodeling and having one house that could sleep a dozen or more.

Bill Day purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Bill Day chose Meadows of Dan

Laurel Point Cottage shares a similar view of the big house. Like the Villa it is close to the Parkway, Chateau Morrisette, Villa Appalachia, and Floyd. It will allow smaller groups to be able to afford the peacefulness and beauty provided by our big house.

What makes this cottage unique

Bill backpacked for over 30 years in the Southern Appalachians and the view from the Laurel Point Compound is in his top 5 views. Tops the pull outs on the Blue Ridge Parkway as well as Lover's Leap. Watch storms, leaves changing, birds etc. while on your deck. No need to go anywhere else except maybe the wineries.

Roughing it in the woods while using high end appliances!

  • 4 of 5

Laurel Point Cottage provided my husband and me with breathtaking views at 3200 feet elevation. We were so pleased that we did not have to travel out of state to enjoy fresh, cool air. So glad we brought our food and beverages with us so we could stay on the lovely grounds. I would recommend this cottage if you are a civilized outdoorsman!

beautiful view

This was one of the best home away rentals we have ever had and we have been using home away for at least 20 years. The cottage was nicely decorated, very comfortable and had everything we needed.

Breathtakingly beautiful getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a place to rest and relax with our dogs and soak up some time outside away from the city. Bill's cottage was the perfect place! We spent almost the entire weekend sitting on the deck, admiring the unbelievable view! The cottage itself is a beautiful, brand new space, with thought put into every detail. The king size bed was heaven! We spent one afternoon in nearby Floyd, enjoying the Farmers Market and listening to some amazing bluegrass at the Country Store. Bill left us very detailed and helpful information about things to do nearby, where to get groceries, and local information.

The cottage itself is gorgeous. The best way to describe it is a mountain cabin with a modern flair. The kitchen will invoke envy in any chef. The appliances are modern and how can you not feel inspired while making dinner looking at that view?

It is apparent from our time there that Bill put thought into every detail from the deck furniture to the quality of the towels. Every effort he put into the construction of the cottage makes the stay there more enjoyable. We cannot wait to return.

If you are looking for a mountain getaway, we can't think of a better spot to come than the Cottage at Villa Point.

Best Weekend Ever

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a getaway vacation, this is your place to stay. My boyfriend and I traveled from DC. A bit of a trek but not complicated to get to. Plus, when you have mountain views surrounding you the whole way, the hours go by quick. We pulled into the cottage, stepped inside and I dropped all my bags. I've never seen a view like this. Shortly after cracking some Corona's and slicing some limes, we found ourselves on the porch. Bill was so nice to call and check in that we got there safely. Friday night we traveled to Floyd - I recommend Dogtown for some pizza. Saturday we traveled to Primland to play golf. We thought about staying at Primland property prior to our booking for this VRBO but I'm so glad we didn't. The cottage offers everything you could imagine (plus more) for a very good price. After golf, we got back to the house. Cooked an amazing steak meal and sipped on wine all night long. The next morning we got up for the sunrise - it's a MUST! After that we played another round of golf at Old Mille. I actually recommend Old Mille over Primland. It's a great price, as well as the views are equally as cool. As we sadly made our way out, we stopped at a new brewery in Floyd - Buffalo Mountain Brewing Company. I suggest stopping for a beer! Overall, best trip ever!

Things to keep in mind:

- If you have AT&T, you will not have service (not a bad thing for a getaway). The cottage is fully equipped with wifi though. But for travel purposes print out directions as a backup. Especially if you are looking to travel while being there.

-We packed groceries prior to our trek and I'm so glad we did. We did at home cooked meals for everything. The cottage has all the appliances you need. In my opinion, the restaurant selection isn't great. However we did not stop at the places that Bill recommended. So I cannot speak for those.

Book this trip - you will not regret it.

Beautiful secluded and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property to celebrate my cousin's 50th birthday. It has picturesque views from any place on the wrap around porch. We really enjoyed venturing into Floyd and to Chateau Morissette Winery. The owner was great to work with and was very helpful with suggestions of things to do. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing get-away, you will not go wrong with this location!
