Authentic Chesapeake Bay town
Nice cottage by the bay. Interesting place still has working skipjacks and skipjack
Spectacular sunset as advertised! Very cozy little cottage with seaside decor. We had a lovely week.
Quiet and Restful
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our short stay on Deal Island. The cottage was perfect for our needs and the location was ideal. Sitting on the deck or sunporch and watching the water was very calming and the starry sky at night was unbelievable. We will definitely be back.
Dreamy Bay Views...So Relaxing
The house, Lighthouse Cottage, is great - well appointed with everything you need. Barbara’s beach/nautical decor is everywhere and appreciated! We’ve rented other beach homes - this is the most complete one yet ! The view is spectacular - especially in the early morning and at dusk. Of course, it didn’t hurt that we had spectacular weather for three straight days - the length of our stay. Loved hearing the frogs...and watching the crab boats while sipping our coffee in the early morning. The crab pots were a nice bonus. We caught seven crabs - and they became part of our happy hour one night. We really enjoyed a few visits to Arby’s Dockside Bar and Grill. Folks were friendly, we shot some pool, had delicious chicken wings.. and our last night there, we had Debbie’s crab cakes. A true Deal Island experience all around. Note: Arby’s is the ONLY food option/business on the island. If you’re renting a vacation property, either shop and bring in your provisions. Or know you will have to drive out a half hour or more for groceries, gas etc. Want beer or snacks or bait? Arby’s has it. You’re good. Want milk, gas or serious dinner fixins? Be prepared to drive to Princess Ann - 30 min or so. A lovely historic town in its own right. They also have a great hardware store. We really loved the slow calm vibe. If you’re looking for excitement, loud live music and a pounding pulse, look elsewhere. It’s time to unplug - internet sketchy at times. Enjoy!
Nice Little Getaway
We really enjoyed our stay! It was an awesome location with unbeatable views, for a very reasonable price. The yard space was great for our dog and son and was well-kept. The sunsets were sensational - and the stars! We really enjoyed the fire pit too - get wood before you come onto the island if you plan to use the fire pit, we had trouble finding wood anywhere nearby. It is definitely a quiet, remote location, which is what we were looking for. The house has character, it is comfortable. The neighbors are very friendly. We didn't know how to get inside the house at first, but Barbara answered her phone right away and provided instruction. As others have mentioned, the tap water is a little funky - we got bottled water to drink (you may want to as well if you are particular about water taste), but tap was fine for cooking/cleaning and showers! The internet did not work, but we expected this due to other reviews, and planned accordingly. I have Sprint and had zero cell service. My husband had service in and out with AT&T. The satellite TV worked great! If you plan to use the kayaks (we did not), you'll want to talk to Barbara first. You might need a truck to get them to the boat launch, as they are not on wheels and the launch is too far to walk to unless there is a hand-dolly somewhere for the kayaks. You cannot put them in the water at the property as it is all rocks. Not a problem, just something to plan for. All in all, it was a great find and exactly what we were looking for! Thank you!
I will change over the winter to Comcast since the finally open service for Deal and yes Verizon is a bad service in my area! I will consider getting a hand-dolly . T do have some new Kayaks in the Garage ! I know the water always been a problem and we do have filters under the house. Considering to buy a big water softener. Thanks again Barbara
Very peaceful getaway.
If you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is the perfect place for you. The home is so cozy in a peaceful setting on the water. Down the street is a little place to grab really good food and spark up conversation with the friendly locals. Keep in mind Deal Island is out of the way of the hustle and bustle. A half hour drive is where you can find dining and other activities. We really enjoyed our stay, just what we were looking for. The home is colorful and has everything you need for amentities.
