Comfortable log cabin with 525 sf of relaxed comfort. Guests are responsible for bringing their own food and beverages, personal items. We provide gourmet spices, condiments, bbq grill, charcoal. Double E Ranch offers an atmosphere very rare: PRIVACY, free from being observed or disturbed by other people. No street lights, just star filled nights. No traffic noise, just the sounds of quiet country, the breeze rustling the leaves of cottonwood and sycamore trees. No concrete buildings, just open spaces filled with natural beauty and wildlife at every turn. No rushing elbow-to-elbow crowds everywhere you look. Just the people and animals that live here. No glitz, glitter, or high-toned life style. No big-city worries filled with people you don't trust. Just an old fashioned ranching environment nearly as it was 100 years ago.
At Double E Ranch what you get is folks who still have no reason to lock doors, who trust and respect their neighbors and offer help without being asked. Our facilities are best enjoyed by independent travelers who don't expect to be entertained, who are self sufficient, resourceful folks wanting to experience a simpler, grounding lifestyle.
Welcome to Double E Ranch Vacation Cabin Rentals! Double E Ranch Vacation Cabins are located outside the tiny Village of Gila, NM. The Village of Gila and the nearby town of Cliff were settled in 1884 and are still very rural.
Services in Gila and Cliff include: 2 post offices, library, EMT/Volunteer Fire Department, medical clinic, community center, senior center, library, K-12 School, Chucks gas station, several churches. Our average population is between 350 – 500 residents.
Your cabin really is at the end of the road. The Piñon Log Cabin is a 460 square foot studio with covered deck and rocking chairs. Amenities include: complete kitchen with 2 apartment sized refrigerators, a 4-burner gas stove top, microwave, crock pot/slow cooker, coffee maker, blender, toaster, dishes, flatware, cooking pots and utensils and bbq grill.
Because the Village of Gila does not have a convenient grocery store nearby, we encourage guests to bring some or all food items with you, especially for shorter stays. The nearest grocery store is located 35 miles away in Silver City.
Bed is queen sized with luxury hotel quality mattress with Egyptian cotton bedding, plush blankets, pillows and comforter. Bathroom is complete with full bath tub and shower, plenty of thick towels, and face cloths. Short term guests need only to bring food, drinks, personal items such as face soaps, lotions, etc. Your cabin is provided with complimentary facial tissue, several rolls of toilet paper and paper towels.
We are just 35 miles from restaurants, museums and shopping in historic Silver City, New Mexico.
Double E Ranch Vacation Cabin Rentals was inspired by our desire to share the exceptionally beautiful hidden valley location along Bear Creek, literally 'at the end of the road'. We directly adjoin a 6500 acre wildlife preserve soon to be open to the public, and are a short drive to the 3 million acres of the Gila National Forest. The southwestern lifestyle and our love for ranching in New Mexico is our reason for being here.
For 18 years, Double E Ranch was a working cattle, horse and guest ranch. The specialty at Double E Ranch was providing our guests with the unique opportunity to experience the undiluted, real sensations of southwestern New Mexico ranch life. The original 'bunk house' and 100 year old ranch house continue to be used for guests from all around the world.
Now retired, Debbie and Alan continue to offer you a unique opportunity to experience a taste of life on a southwestern New Mexico ranch, explore a diverse ecological region, meet the recent and ancient past up close. Thousands of years ago the Mimbres Indians lived along Bear Creek and the Gila River. Pottery pieces, ancient tools, pictographs and remnants of stone dwellings can be readily found. More recently, legendary characters including Billy the Kid, Geronimo, and Ben Lily roamed the hills, mountains and towns in this area.
A more relaxed environment and privacy... your own cabin, your own time schedule, meals when you want to cook them. With the sun just beginning to peek over the mountain, begin by enjoying that first cup of coffee or tea, absorbing the sights and sounds of what 'peaceful' really feels like. Just about sunset, from your rocker on the deck, put your feet up, watch the mountains change from rocky rust, to stunning, vibrant reds, oranges, yellows while saying 'adios' to another healing day.
Take advantage of this incredible location, experience the magic of southwestern New Mexico by using our vacation cabins as your "home away from home" while exploring the entire southwest. Short day trips to the Gila Cliff Dwellings or City of Rocks or overnight in Santa Fe, Old Tombstone, historic Las Cruces or famous El Paso.
Breath! You'll easily be able to disconnect from the frenetic race of urban lifestyles. Our fully furnished, self catered cabins contain everything needed to make your experience relaxing, convenient and restful.
Our weather in every season is mild compared to most other regions of the country. For guests coming from our northern states, Double E Ranch is a fantastic haven for escaping the bitter cold and snow of winter! The area offers diverse activities, events and places to keep you interested and entertained, year round: Tour de Gila Bike Race, Silver City Blues Festival, art galleries, museums. With lower humidity levels, being outdoors is comfortable nearly every day and the sun shines an average of 330 days a year!
There are plenty of activities for you to enjoy on the ranch. Bring your horse! We've got self-care pens (call us for rates) and a 300x250 enclosed arena with excellent footing.
Just outside your cabin door, you have hiking, birding, star gazing and mountain biking. In a short 20 minute drive you will have unlimited access to nearly 3 million acres of public lands (New Mexico State Land, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service) making activities such as hunting, rock hounding, exploring Native ruins, and spectacular, exciting horseback riding easily accessible, never running out of new trails to travel!
Debbie and Alan Eggleston are living their life-long dream! A former Admin Assistant, and a retired Airline Pilot, Debbie and Alan have both had a long-standing passion for Cowboys, Horses, and the Old West.
In 1996 they were lucky enough to find the Double E Ranch in Gila, New Mexico, with over 30,000 acres of spectacular vistas! The Ranch adjoined the 3 million acre Gila National Forest and Gila Wilderness area. They established Double E Guest Ranch and for 18 years they shared this incredible ranching lifestyle and stunning country with folks from all over the world.
Now retired and living a pace that is a little slower, they continue to open their doors and offer folks a unique opportunity to explore this amazing part of New Mexico by providing comfortable, fully furnished, self catered cabins, plenty of maps to help you navigate your way through nature and history.
Debbie or Alan Eggleston purchased this cabin in 1996
New Mexico is a haven for the unexpected. It’s an attitude. A way of life: more relaxed, amazing vistas, unexpected experiences, a direct immediate connection with nature, a pathway to the past . It’s adventure in its truest form. And, it's waiting for you at Double E Ranch Guesthouses!
Welcome to Double E Ranch Vacation Guesthouse Rentals! We are situated along the southwestern edge of the legendary Gila National Forest, just 30 miles from historic Silver City, New Mexico.
Double E Ranch Vacation Guesthouse Rentals was inspired by our desire to share our exceptionally beautiful hidden valley location along Bear Creek, literally 'at the end of the road'. We directly adjoin a 6500 acre State of New Mexico Game and Fish designated wildlife preserve, and are a short drive to 3 million acres of the Gila National Forest. The original 'bunk house' built in the 1940's and 125 year old ranch headquarters have been used to house visitors from all around the world and are in the process of being refurbished and upgraded, and will soon be included as a guesthouse option.

Mild year round weather - not too hot in the summer; comfortable sunny days in the winter with very little rain or snow - southwest New Mexico provides unlimited mind staggering vistas, spectacular mountain views, sharp blue skies and billions of star filled nights. We are blessed to be situated along the western drainage of the Piños Altos Mountain Range (Bear Creek) which empties directly into the Gila River, and flows all the way to the great Colorado River. Our ranch adjoins 6200 acres of State of New Mexico land that is managed by the NM Game and Fish. Beyond is the 3 million acre Gila National Forest and Gila Wilderness area.
Our comfortable cabins bring guests closer to this rare experience, providing them a unique opportunity to explore this unique, rarely explored area.
"Visit New Mexico" says: "Both the wild and the west still survive and thrive in the southwestern New Mexico Gila National Forest region. Ancient cave dwellings one day, fine dining the next, and all sandwiched around some unmatched biking opportunities... And we should probably mention the classic old west saloon, and the characters who populate the barstools inside".
Dark, dry skies across much of Grant County make for great star gazing almost everywhere. City of Rocks State Park and the Gila Wilderness are two great options, as is almost any remote spot in the county!
Birding is exceptional in the Gila area. Approximately 339 bird species have been sighted. The numerous species of birds found is largely related to the diverse ecological habitat found on the Gila and location on a migratory flight path.
Hiking trails are numerous. An extensive system of trails offers pleasant hikes in quiet solitude through cool forested mountains or along shady streams. Maps: Gila National Forest and Wilderness maps are available at the Gila National Forest office, 3005 E. Camino Del Bosque, Silver City, NM 88061, and at District Ranger Stations
We really enjoyed our stay in the Agave Cabin. Thank you for welcoming us to your ranch and allowing us to roam around. It made it feel like a home away from home. Our dogs had a great time, too and were tuckered out each night! I hope we can make our way back sometime soon! Regards, (from Austin, TX)
Alan ,Debbie and Chris welcomed us and made us feel right at home. We feel very blessed that they have decided to share such a unique and special place with others. We spent a month here and didn't want to leave. Every day brought a new adventure at a nice, relaxed pace! ThankYOU all for a wonderful visit and we can't wait to come back again! Peter & Kelly (Madigan & Lily)
This beautiful and comfortable cabin is tucked away from crowds and traffic and that makes it the perfect getaway. The cabin is truly a home away from home in the sense that it has all the amenities you'll need. In addition, the owners are very responsive should you have any questions. Highly recommended!
After a day of driving and hiking the catwalks we were thrilled to end up at this beautiful, quiet home away from home with all the amenities of your own home situated in a secluded, quiet, absolutely stunning environment. We enjoyed sleeping in a super comfy bed, rocking in the rocking chairs on the porch and hours long hikes joined by eagles through the cottonwoods. If only we would of stayed longer this truly would of been a perfect vacation! We will be back!
Let me start off by saying the cabin was super cosy with a perfect location. The cabin sits within the mountains with an amazing view during the day and more so at night. When you look up at the night sky... OMG!! is all you'll say, no joke. Deborah (the owner), who I only got to know via email unfortunately, is great with responding to any questions or concerns you have.
Allen (owner/ husband), is so awesome! My partner and I met with him when we were hiking up the mountain near the cabin as he was leaving, he's a sweet guy who's very welcoming. Their cabin has all the amenities one needs for a get-away vacation. It has a comfortable bed and living space that's just right. The location of the cabin is very quiet and peaceful all around, the town in general to be honest which is great.
There's so much to do that will keep you busy and on your feet in the near by towns. Gila forest and national park is amazing, lots too see! Their food and shops are awesome. Overall, my partner and I had an amazing time. We slept great. Ate like kings. And had adventures like explores. You'll love the cabin and the town(s). So stop reading this and book this cabin now and be ready to plan a great, relaxing, stress-free vacation! Thank you to Deborah and Allen,
We'll will see y'all soon,
- Jesse and Marvin 😊
I stayed in the Agave Guest Home at the Double E Ranch in Gila, New Mexico, over an extended Fourth of July escape. I was looking for a secluded area and tranquil environment, not only for myself to decompress from a stressful job; but for one of my dogs who is terrified of fireworks. Debbie and Al's property delivered! It was so peaceful and calm there...no city traffic noise or crowds, no demands on your time. The cabin is adorable, clean, with everything you'll probably need in a kitchen. We enjoyed the porch looking at the mountains, trees, and corral. There are numerous trees on the property, if you're like me and live in the desert...don't really see many, what I consider trees in Las Cruces.
Debbie was very accessible in answering any questions I had, which typically ranged from...is there AC? Will there be fireworks? Is there a grill? Although I didn't meet her face-to-face while in Gila, Debbie was very welcoming and warm. If I needed anything during my stay, I knew I could contact her.
The property is close to the Gila National Forest. Each morning, I'd take the dogs for a hike in the forest and near the Gila River/Turkey Creek. I didn't adventure far from the cabin or ranch as seclusion and quiet was what I was seeking. My two dogs had a blast too! The dogs loved that they were able to run around, within reason, by the cabin; and enjoyed the freedom of our hikes. I swear when we returned back home to Las Cruces, my Labrador retriever, seemed sad.
I immensely enjoyed the visit to the Double E Ranch; I am hoping to return in the fall of 2016 for another extended weekend escape.
Thank you, Debbie and Al!!!
Las Cruces, NM
Great place for a getaway. All amenities are as described and the owners could not be more hospitable. Will certainly return again.
A cozy 1 bedroom log cabin with covered deck and nearly 430 sf. Nestled among the cottonwood and sycamore trees along Bear Creek, you'll find a little bit of New Mexico magic. Easy access to the legendary Gila National Forest, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding. Climate is comfortable in every season. Winters are especially nice for visitors coming from northern states. It's not unusual for January - March to have daytime temps between 55 - 68 degrees F.
Feel free to walk about. Several of our cabins, barn and most of the corrals are original and have been in constant use for over 130 years. We continue to work hard at staying true to the historic 'feel' of ranch as it was in New Mexico back in the late 1890's. We are excited to announce that we are currently upgrading the 'old ranch house', built in the late 1890's or early 1900's. Original architecture with some very unique features, including high ceilings, fireplace in the bedroom, claw foot bathtub and screened wrap around porch with rockers and swing will take you back in time long past.
After your first creek crossing you'll find a privately protected riparian area that runs for several miles along Bear Creek. Wild life is abundant, you can spot hundreds of native and migratory birds, deer, brown bear, and Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep. At night you'll see the Milky Way spread across a clear, dark New Mexico sky.
Debbie or Alan are making "self check in" an option. When available, they will greet you, show you to your cabin and answer any immediate questions you might have. A booklet of pertinent information along with cabin keys will be inside. It is likely you will see Alan working one of his many horses at the ranch. His passion is training well bred quarter horses for such disciplines as cattle work, reined cow horse and cowboy mounted shooting. As an expert horseman, he has a wealth of information, tips and techniques he is always willing to share. We have plenty of additional room for parking trailers so bring your own horse! It's the very best way to experience this amazing part of the southwest.
Using your cabin as your 'home away from home', you can easily access some of the most beautiful sites in New Mexico and the southwest, including Silver City, Glenwood, Las Cruces, Carlsbad Caverns, Ruidoso and Santa Fe to name just a few easy day trip options . Interesting art galleries, museums, restaurants are just a short drive from the ranch. Day trips to either Arizona or Texas are convenient, with plenty to see and experience.
House Rules: Our pace is slower, making it easy to unplug from the stressful rush of urban life. No watches, clocks, time schedules or traffic gridlock. Activities happen at your own pace. Feel like a hike up "Turtle Mountain" to explore Apache Corral? We don't have signs reminding you to "stay on the trail". You make our own trails. Maybe indulge in a good book or a nap? It won't take long for you to reconnect with your own natural rhythm.
Pets are ok, but we do ask that you discuss it with Debbie prior to making a reservation. As a ranch, we have horses, cattle, ducks, a few chickens and our own dogs. As such, all our ranch animals understand appropriate behavior.
Sorry -- no smoking inside your cabin. Sitting outside on your own private deck to indulge is very pleasant. If you open a gate, please remember to close it, as well. Knock before your enter. We respect your privacy and hope you will reciprocate.
Grant County is still very rural. Ranching remains a very important part of the local economy. A few miles from your cabin, the Gila River flows all the way to Arizona and beyond. Canoe-ing, tubing, fishing or simply listening to the water move are all easy to do. Silver City has some interesting art galleries and restaurants and is just a 30 mile drive.
Silver City has a public transport van (Corre Caminos) making stops all throughout town for a small fee, as well as a small, short flight commuter air service (Boutique Air) to Albuquerque or Phoenix where you can make connections to anywhere. El Paso (3 hours away) has a very nice International airport with easy access, easy parking. Phoenix International Airport is 5 hours drive.

We are 3.5 miles off the main paved road. Hooker Loop is a County Maintained dirt road, kept in very good condition. 90% of the year 2-wheel drive is quite adequate. During brief periods of rain, all-wheel drive is better. We do not recommend motorcycles, but guests.
We realize it's not always possible to determine an accurate arrival time. During the day, we may not be in the office, but outside working. Prior to your arrival date we will send you specific information including the location of your cabin. We will leave the door unlocked, a light on outside and inside, general information, our contact telephone number and a key on the table. If we are not available to greet you on arrival, please feel comfortable going to your cabin. We will phone (or if you want, you phone us) to make sure you have arrived safely and have no immediate needs.
We recommend guests bring any personal items with them, including shampoo, special face soap, preferred coffee, etc.
Because we are located in a valley, we have no cell phone service. However, wi-fi is provided. You can send and receive email, access the internet, download movies from sources such as NetFlix or Amazon. We provide telephone service for local calls only (Gila, Cliff, Buckhorn, Mule Creek). Long distance calls, please bring a calling card.
Our night skies are amazingly clear. New Mexico has very few bothersome bugs and you will enjoy spending evenings outside on your deck. However, what few bugs we do have will are still attracted by light - outside or inside. We recommend you leave your porch light off as often as possible. There will be an oil lantern in your cabin, providing plenty of light for you to enjoy the night skies with limited irritants.
When bringing your pets, all dogs must be on leash with outside. We offer a cabin with small fenced pen. Plan to bring your own pet bed. NO pets on the furniture. We do not ask for a 'damage deposit'. However, you agree to pay for any damage.
* Approximate monthly price. Actual pricing will depend on the days of the month you stay.
