Want to get away from it all? This is the place for you. Drive down Candy Point Road and
you'll feel like you are back at summer camp in this peaceful cottage with beautiful original pine walls and tall ceilings. Its cozy porch faces directly onto Rogers Creek, with views of the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay.
We call this cottage "The Little House" because it is the smaller guest house on the property-- the "Big House" is nearby across the yard. Just down the hill is our sandy beach.
Both the kitchen and bathroom were updated in 2014. The cottage has central air conditioning and heat plus ceiling fans in every room.
Lie in the hammock to watch both spectacular sunsets and sunrises. Great star gazing.
For your use find beach chairs, beach umbrella, noodles, inner tubes, coolers, fishing gear, sand toys, bikes, a fire-pit, and a paddle board in the garage.
Sleeps 4 in two bedrooms, one with queen bed and one with twin beds. The bathroom has a shower, no bathtub.
Pets are welcome, but if they get wet and muddy, please dry them off and put towels on my newly redone cushions!
Kitchen has electric stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and refrigerator with freezer. Wireless internet service, no TV. Painted floors, hooked rugs, quilts, and lots of charm throughout.
We are native Virginians and live in Alexandria, VA.
The property includes 2 cottages, a garage, 1/3 acre, and a dock. It's our family's favorite place and we've been restoring and upgrading it for the last 35 years.
I love painting furniture and floors and anyone can see I have been very busy with my projects!
Anne Whittle purchased this cottage in 1981
Definitely its proximity to the water. Candy Point is practically surrounded by water... you can hear the waves at night. Visitors feel like they are on a boat because the house is up on a hill and you see water everywhere you look!
In the spring you can watch ospreys ( just back from their winter journey to Argentina) building their nests. Bald eagles soar above the creek. We have bluebirds and hummingbirds too. It is a very quiet setting --at night you hear the waves and the frogs across the creek at Froggy Bottom. Plus the star gazing is amazing!
We just completed our second stay at the Little House. We were there in June and loved it so much we went back in October. The Little House is a wonderful place to relax. A beautiful setting, a cozy, comfortable cottage, it is just a great place to unplug. Our favorite time was early in the morning, sitting on the screen porch with a cup of coffee, watching the herons and eagles over the water. Anne does a great job of adding little touches to the cottage to make it feel homey and very comfortable. We highly recommend the Little House to anyone wanting to slow down and relax in a very scenic setting. We come from Minnesota, so getting there isn't easy, but we will return whenever we find ourselves in the DC area, looking for a beautiful place for some downtime.
We had a great time relaxing, kayaking, swimming, crabbing and cooking out on the campfire. Anne went out of her way to be sure we had crabbing supplies and even left us chicken necks in the freezer! The house had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The "creek" leading into the Potomac and Chesapeake was way better than I expected. It had a sandy bottom which made it great for swimming and was really pretty to kayak. I saw blue herons and eagles.
The location was great! On the water, charming cottage w/plenty of room. Convenient supermarket within 15 minutes. Kayak, paddle board, floatation devices all on location. Fire pit & hammock were a relaxing bonus. Quiet & relaxing! Our dogs had a fun time too! Anne was great. We'd come again!!

Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet, well-kept, out-of-the-way getaway on the Northern Neck. Great views and comfortable rooms, with a very responsive, helpful owner.
This was our 2nd trip back to the cottage. The view off the back screen porch simply cannot be beat, especially in the morning as you watch the sunrise! We love that this cute cottage is dog friendly. Anne and her husband are such kind hosts, making sure that we were doing okay and even offered to keep an eye on our dog while we were out exploring! The only disappointment were the jellyfish, that prohibited from swimming like we did last Summer, as we loved hanging out at the small beach area & relaxing in our floats. Highly recommend the Dog & Oyster Vineyard and Merroir restaurant.
My husband, dog, and I greatly enjoyed our weekend here. It is perfect for people who love the water. I cannot wait to go back again and cannot recommend this place enough. The owner was so kind and easy to work with as well.
The cottage's zip code locates it in Heathsville, Va. but it is about 9 miles from Heathsville, on the Potomac River in Edwardsville, Va. It is a very rural, peaceful spot with big open water views (Potomac River is 10 miles wide here). Perfect spot for fishing, sunbathing, kayaking, boating, biking, and sightseeing in nearby small towns.
Renters must be at least 25 years old.
