Great Escape with All the Amenities of Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay and are eager to return. So many good things to say about this place and it's most gracious owners. Beds were all very comfy and the woodworking and detail is just beautiful. Kids were a little bummed about not much cell reception but that is why we came to the UP--to escape the daily grind. Used the kayaks, paddle board and boat daily. Party room and saunas were icing on the cake. A great stay all around.

This house offers all the best of lakefront living. Views, wildlife, boating and fishing all steps outside the door. The sauna is a terrific bonus feature that we used every day!

Wonderful setting & rustic refinement!!!

  • 5 of 5

Where to start? Room to roam, wonderful sandy beach, clean and orderly. I arrive by myself late afternoon unpack & grab a fishing rod. This is my "sanity" and what I was looking forward to. Walk into the water to the bottom of my shorts right in front & cast a surface lure. Ten casts. Three misses & five hook ups with the north woods feisty smallmouth! Pretty impressive. This place does not disappoint! It is all that is advertised & more. The owners handy work with wood is everywhere. Don't overlook the attention to detail of his furniture making & wood carving. It is an important part of the charm. Wild blackberrys were easy pickings. You only had a hundred yard walk! My wife's family arrived late that evening from the Milwaukee area. Sister in law, husband & 15 month old. They loved the place. Although I didn't use the sauna until they left on Wednesday. I could kick myself for not taking advantage of it's soothing powers earlier. I felt most connected to my wife, who passed away a year before, in the night sky. Absolutely do not miss the night sky! The abundance of stars. The Milky Way & the shooting stars. Outstanding! We had our own visiting loons. A pair. Adult & juvenile. Their song apitimises the north woods. Did I mention the eagle that visited every couple of days? And oh yes the feisty red squirrel that would scold & drop bits of "fodder" on you if you were too close to to his favorite tree! I could go on & on but I think you get the message. This truly is a place you "must" come to & experience. On a parting note. This is my forth rental in the heart of Michigan's U P. I have made it a practice to never rent the same place twice but I'm having second thoughts. Thank you Bill & family for sharing your little piece of paradise.

Kind regards, Larry Schenck Temperance, Mi. August 27, 2016

The property was set in a very peaceful location on a quiet lake. a lovely getaway

  • 5 of 5

The home had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, far enough out for peace and quiet and not too far for day trips to hike and sight see. The kids enjoyed the beach, the adults the sauna and kayaks. Overall, a lovely place to get away from it all....thanks Bill

Relaxation at its best

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay when you want to get away from it all, but still have all the luxuries of home. Sporley Lake was very clear and clean, and fun to swim and play in. Our kids, 8 and 12, kayaked, swam, took the paddle boat out every day. We saw a bald eagle, loons, and many fish. Bill's home is quaint with many personal touches, homemade lodgy furniture, and just the right amount of space to let you relax. The outdoor shower was a unique experience, and the kids used it to rinse off after lake time. We used the indoor sauna once. Overall a great time had at this house.
