Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cabin in Ironton - Shepherd Mountain Cabins

Rustic, spacious one bedroom, one bath cabin with beautiful scenic views.

The Shepherd Cabin is a rustic beauty! This cabin is one of two cabins on the property. This heated and air conditioned cabin is packed full of charm. The cabin has a lodge theme through-out the inside and sits on 14 private acres. Wake up in the morning with a cup of coffee and step outside to listen to the sounds of nature all around you. At the end of the day, savor the sunset. It would be perfect for a couple's getaway or a great place to bring the family. The cabin is so centrally located that you could spend five days here and not be able to do everything there is to do within a twenty mile radius. This property also has a beautiful location. It is close to town yet very private. The view from the front porch is breathtaking. Nothing beats the quiet of the country and the sounds of nature.

This spacious cabin has a open layout for the kitchen, dining room and living room. The roomy, bedroom loft is located upstairs and has two comfortable, queen sized beds. The cabin also has a couch and futon to help it sleep six. Refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker and blender are just a few of the amenities included in the kitchen. The dining area includes a small bar and a dining table. There is a washer and dryer in the laundry area.

The cabin is completely stocked with bedding and towels. The property has an electric grill and a fire-pit. All you would need to bring is your food and clothes to feel right at home!

Sit back and enjoy the seclusion and privacy while relaxing in the comforts of the Shepherd Cabins.

About Melinda

This area is loaded with so many scenic areas. We love that it is close to many parks and sites that include rivers, hiking, kayaking, and canoeing. The valley is also filled with much history which includes the Fort Davidson Museum and Park. We have lived in the valley for many years and are so proud of our beautiful area and wanted to share it with others.

Melinda purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Melinda chose Arcadia

The beautiful Arcadia Valley is located just 80 miles southwest of St. Louis. When we found the cabins we were so excited to share their beauty and charm with others seeking a quiet retreat, romantic getaway or just some much needed family rest and fun.

Our family has always loved to stay in cabins on our vacations. We wanted to provide this opportunity for visitors to our area.

What makes this cabin unique

The view from the front porch was a huge selling point for us. The cabin is nestled into the woods at the base of the beautiful Shepherd Mountain. We also liked that fact that it is private yet close to town and has many family friendly parks.

Great place to get away from it all - had a wonderful time!

  • 4 of 5

We had such a great time! The house is just far enough away from town to give you peace and quiet and let you get back to nature, but close enough that you can still go into town for food and necessities without driving for miles. The house was clean and comfortable and met all our expectations. It's also great that it is close to several point of interest for hiking and outdoor activities.

"Fortunately" for us, the night that we arrived it came a downpour which made our hike to the falls at Taum Sauk Park the next day so worth it - It was beautiful! All that rain also made our trip to the Johnson Shut-ins impressive, however we couldn't swim the first day due to the river being closed due to the unsafe conditions. We were able to go back the last day of our stay though and spent the afternoon there before heading back home. I loved being able to spend the day out hiking and checking out the area, then come "home" to sit around the fire pit drinking a glass of wine and just relaxing! I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

We tried out several of the local restaurants like The Rustler Cafe, Thee Abbey Kitchen & Bakery, Baylee Jo's & the "kinda quirky" Catfish Bowl. All our meals were very good and the folks working there were so friendly and helpful when we asked for recommendations and information on the area.

I can see us going back with friends to check out the float trips one of these days. There was just to much to do in the short time we had there!

Just go - you'll love it!

Just like the picture!! Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the cabin! It had everything we needed. Comfortable beds, great shower. The washer and dryer were a blessing! With 2 teenagers and a 9 year old we had plenty to do in the area. We visited Johnson Shut-ins, went hiking in the Taum Sauk mountains and took our very first float trip on the Black River. Great area, Great place to rest at the end of a long day. We will be renting this property again!

Beautiful Cabin in the Woods

  • 4 of 5

This is a well appointed cabin with an upstairs bedroom, comfortable living room, and well equipped clean cabin. It provided for the ultimate relaxation, and sufficient privacy with a great front porch and a nice fire pit with wood. There is a larger cabin on the other side of the lot but there is plenty of space for everyone. The positives were too many to name. The only reason it is a not a five star review is because of little things such as the TV remote was missing a battery, which made watching a movie impossible, there was a burnt out light bulb over the stairs going to the bedroom which was needed, and basics such as garbage bags, dish soap, and toilet paper are not supplied. The inconveniences would not keep us from staying a second time. It was a really nice stay, and Melinda allowed for a little grace time for us to leave, which was much appreciated!

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you stayed with us. We have many amenities. We do provide two rolls of toilet paper, a roll of paper towels and a trash bag to get you started and these are mentioned in the check in information. The light above the stairs was turned to fan only. You can turn the light on if preferred. The cleaning staff must not have turned on the television to notice only one battery. We apologize for that. Please come stay again with us! :)

Just what we needed

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location of the property set among the trees and looking into the valley. Absolutely gorgeous at sunset. So relaxing and the cabin was just as described. So much character but also modern. We enjoyed the area immensely and are even talking about coming back.
