A beautiful, warm and clean apartment nestled between the Hudson River on the west, historic Harlem, southeast, Sugar Hill, east, Washington Heights, north, and Columbia University, south, in our culturally diverse neighborhood of Hamilton Heights.
The apartment is located on one of the most beautiful blocks in NYC. It is on the street level which makes it easy for people with stair concerns. It is decorated with comfort and style in mind. The bedrooms are super quiet and have the most comfortable beds.
The apartment is a large 2 bedroom/2 bath duplex completely separate with its own private entrance and with access to the serene backyard garden. There are 2 queen beds, 1 full bed, and 2 twin beds, free WiFi, towels, sheets, pillows, iron and board, hairdryer, and bathrobes. One bathroom has a jacuzzi. The bedrooms have an air conditioner and a TV for dvds. (Small library provided). Sorry, no TV service.
The kitchen is fully equipped with good knives, cutting board, pots and pans, toaster, coffee maker, coffee grinder, dishes, glasses, and silverware.
Right around the corner is our new favorite restaurant "Mama Sushi". The neighborhood has plenty of restaurants like Dinosaur BBQ, Covo, Harlem Public, Trufa, The Chipped Cup Cafe, Hamilton, and Unione, grocery stores (Fairway), drug stores (Rite Aid), Bikram Yoga (Hot), and shopping. The Riverbank State Park is just around the corner offering 2 swimming pools, a running track, a skating rink, restaurant, concerts, and more.
The 1 train is two blocks away, the A/C/B and D trains only five blocks away. The subway ride to Times Square is about 15 minutes. Street parking is available.
Thank you so much and have a wonderful stay in NYC!

Karen purchased this townhome in 2007
I have always loved the famous brownstones on New York and I have always wanted to live in the famous Harlem. I got both with this home.
We renovated it in and tried to keep as many original details as was left since it was built in 1901. It was and is a labor of love. Many of our guests enjoy the original aspects of the home.
A wonderful stay, the house is identical to the photos, it has everything we need (laundry, bathroom, slipper, bathrobe ...). We were greeted by the husband (very nice) and Karen pity we could not meet her.
Karen gave us food for the first breakfast, fruit, milk ... which is nice.
The neighborhood is very friendly and we quickly near the metro L1.
After each day we enjoyed the hot tub ....
If one day we have the opportunity to return to New York we will definitely stay in this accommodation.
By cons not to book shuttle because it does not take you to Harlem (147St) only to the 125 ST. We were able to negotiate with the driver with a few extra dollars to 21.00 because we did not want to venture into the subway with children, luggage and especially fatigue.
thank you Valerie
We were impressed with the apartment in general. A couple of things that were not so great - internet is slow, location is good but I wouldn't feel safe walking back home after dark. Of course, that's probably true in most of NYC.
Overall I would recommend this place to a friend. More than enough space for us, 4 adults plus 2 kids.
We had 2 couples staying at Karen's house this October. The house was very clean and there was plenty of room for us all. We loved the location and the vibrant neighborhood. Very close to the subway, which we took everywhere and also close to a park along the Hudson river. Norbert was very nice and helpful with places to eat and places to see. If we had any suggestions to make this house a little more user friendly it would be to have 2 (new) hair dryers, one upstairs and one down. A microwave would be very handy to heat up leftovers as the owners do not care for the smell of meat. Overall I would love to visit New York again and would highly recommend Karen's home to anyone. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
We had a very nice stay in the Harlem Gem. Karen was excellent to communicate with and the place was unbelivably clean.
Our family of 6 stayed here for 5 days quite comfortably. Our younger two children slept in a separate bed in the same room with us downstairs and our older 2 shared a room upstairs, each with their own bed. Loved being able to experience living like a New Yorker. Place was very clean and comfortable. We were less than a 5 minute walk to the subway that we took everyday. We had numerous local grocery stores and vegetable/ fruit stores near us. Great to have a washer and dryer and 2 bathrooms. Always felt safe here. We took the subway home after dark almost every night with no problem.
What a great place! You never know what to expect and this time we were very pleasantly surprised! Norbert and Karen are so nice and have done a great job with this apartment. So very well appointed and comfortable!
A beautiful street and nice, safe neighborhood just enhanced our fun times. We enjoyed sitting on the stoop when we came in late night... The subway is easily accessed and there are good restaurants and pubs nearby. All in all, it was a great place to stay for the week! We highly recommend it!
Just spent a wonderful vacation in New York City. Stayed at an awesome place which was so much better than staying at a hotel. Owners were gracious and readily available when needed. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to stay in a home away from home.
