-Comfortable apartment in an authentic turn-of-the-century historic brownstone has been updated for convenience but retains the original detail that makes Manhattan brownstones the most sought after residences in the city.
-Features the original fireplace, mantel and moldings; a private garden/deck; separate master bedroom with a queen size bed, a small but completely appointed kitchen with four burner range and oven along with microwave; and, a full bathroom with shower. There is a combination LG washer/dryer in the apartment.
-Air-conditioned and heated with steam radiators that have their own controls.
-200 channel Satellite flat screen TV and free, secure WiFi are included.
-Deluxe towels and linens are supplied as are glasses, dishes, utensils, pots and pans, a coffee maker, a hair dryer, iron and ironing board.
-Located on a beautiful tree-lined street, that is protected by the NYC Landmark Commission, in the Upper West Side of Manhattan--in an area known as Sugar Hill because it was the home to the black renaissance and cultural revolution that took place in Harlem in the 20's and 30's and was home to such jazz greats as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins.
-Steps from several bus lines (M100, and M101 travel south on Amsterdam Avenue, across 125th Street and south on Lexington Avenue through midtown down to the East Village; M3 travels down St. Nicholas Avenue across 110th Street/Central Park North and down Fifth Avenue)
-Subway stops are four blocks away (#1 Broadway 7th Avenue is at 137th Street and Broadway; A,B,C,and D at 145th and St. Nicolas Avenue). making all of the City's main attractions (Theater District, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, Metropolitan Museum, etc.) easily and quickly accessible.
-Cabs are always readily available, a half block away on Amsterdam Avenue.
-Easy walking distance to City College campus (entrance at 140th and Convent) including the Grove School of Engineering and the future site of the Colin Powell Library (both at 141st and Convent); Alexander Hamilton's home and now a museum run by the National Park Service (141st below Convent). Both Central Park (beginning at 110th Street) and Riverside Park (2 1/2 blocks west of the apartment) have biking/walking paths that are closed to traffic.
-Shopping: There are many food markets and bodegas within easy walking distance; the best place to buy groceries in the City, unique Fairway Market is a 15 minute walk--for the freshest produce anywhere.
-Restaurants and coffee places: Many excellent restaurants and coffee houses within 2 or 3 blocks. Most of them will deliver to the apartment.

If spending your vacation or business related time in an historic New York brownstone (it's actually limestone) but with all the modern conveniences and an extremely good value--located convenient to all that Manhattan has to offer is of interest, you will enjoy this experience.
I stayed at the Mayeri's apartment for a week in November. It was such a perfect "home away from home." The apartment is so comfortable-- a good size and nicely furnished. It is really well-appointed, with the washer/dryer, great kitchen and even a private patio! There were also so many thoughtful extras: a clothes drying rack, umbrellas, hair dryer, space heater. It's just a few blocks to two different subways so it's very easy to get downtown. The owners were so gracious and welcoming! The other thing is that even for a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe.
I've already booked for another stay.
We stayed at this property for 4 nights during the 1st week of December 2015. I have mixed feelings about the stay, but overall it was a positive experience. Here are some of the pros & cons.
- Very reasonable price for a spacious NYC apartment.
- Property owner (Ray) was easy to work with. We made the reservation & payments with ease. We communicated via text msg and email several times before and during the visit. We were fairly knowledgeable about what we want to do and where we wanted to go so we really didn't need his help. However, he was ready and willing to provide assistance if needed.
- The apartment was spacious. It easily slept 3, with a couple in the bedroom and a single on the hide-away bed in the living room.
- It had a large, well equipped kitchen.
- Bathroom was small, but plenty of hot water.
- TV with satellite reception worked well.
- The apartment was clean and well maintained.
- Ample supply of maps and guidebooks had been left in apartment by previous occupants.
- The owner provided a nice "binder" containing information which I have come to expect at all VRBO properties....owner/manager contact info, wi-fi sign on & password procedures, operating instructions for appliances, commentary on area restaurants, info on area transportation (in this case 2 different subway lines), etc.
- While the area is served by 2 different subway lines (the #1 line at the 137th St/City College station and the A, B, C & D lines at the 145th St station), it's a bit of a hike to either one. And, the area is quite hilly, you're going to be trudging uphill from either station up to the apartment.
- We spent most of our time downtown. By comparison, the area around the apartment is void of activity. We usually headed back to the apartment between 8PM and 10PM each evening. The streets were pretty vacant on the walk from the subway station to the apartment. We didn't have any problems, but were a bit uncomfortable. If you are going to cab or Uber it, this would be of no concern.
- Amsterdam Ave is only a few feet away from the apartment, but I'm not sure you'd be able to hail a cab. We didn't see any in the mornings or evenings. We were not in the area during mid-day.
- Outside temperatures were in the 50s during the day and high 30s at night. The living room stayed nice and warm due to the large radiator. However, the bedroom got a little nippy at night, even with a space heater.
I spent 3 weeks at this vacation rental with my 3 adult kids. We had a wonderful experience and Ray and Harriet were great hosts. The rental is large by New York City standards - huge living room with a fold out queen couch and big bedroom with queen bed. What we loved is the outside patio with lounge area and table. We ate most of our meals outside and loved having a place to rest outside. This is not a luxury rental but it is very clean (with lots of old world charm) and provides everything you need to cook and relax in between sightseeing. It is an excellent value. The neighborhood is wonderful - far from the crush of tourists, but very safe, with all the amenities. Two subway lines within easy walking distance get you anywhere you want, great grocery store nearby had everything we needed, coffee shops, laundromats, yoga, and the Grange Restaurant, which is excellent, is on the corner. It is the perfect location on a beautiful street. I hope we have the opportunity to return and will definitely recommend to our friends.
The apartment is located on a beautiful tree-lined street that is protected by the NYC Landmark Commission in the heart of New York's most historic neighborhoods, the Hamilton Heights district on the Upper West Side of Manhattan including Alexander Hamilton's historic home. Just a half block from the northern entrance to the beautiful, historic campus of the City College of New York with its Gothic architecture and the Alexander Hamilton Grange Museum in one direction and two and a half blocks from Riverside Park (overlooking the Hudson River) in the other, the apartment is just steps from several bus lines (1/2 block), and three blocks from the subway making all of the city's wonderful attractions easily and quickly accessible.
