We loved how it was right on the water!
We very much enjoyed our stay here! Roland and Becky were very welcoming and the house was stocked with whatever you need, including chocolate chip cookies waiting for us when we got there! We loved how secluded it was, how the windows really opened up the house to the outside, and how we were right on the water! We enjoyed sitting on the big deck listening to the water from the river and the rest of nature! We grilled out on the BBQ grill almost every night! We caught a 1.5lb bass, 3 bluegills, a baby channel catfish, and a baby bullhead catfish. During our stay we visited Queen Wilhelmina State Park (the view is amazing!), ate at Southern Belle restaurant in Oklahoma, went fishing at Lake Ouachita, dug for diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park, enjoyed some snow cones in the town of Mena, and just enjoyed hanging around the property. It was so quite and relaxing! We were sad to leave!
Thanks Autumn, it was nice meeting you guys and are glad you had a great visit. Hope to see you again soon.
An Ideal Getaway
A lovely property, friendly owners and many extra touches.
Beautiful home with many extras
We have stayed at several homes through VRBO and this was by far the best house. It is a well maintained, clean home with beautiful views out the floor to ceiling windows/glass doors. The deck is very inviting overlooking the stream. The owners are on the same property and greet you on your first day. There were so many extras that it felt like a bed and breakfast from fresh flowers, homemade cookies and chocolates on your pillow.
The kitchen is well equipped as are the bathrooms. But again the owners go above and beyond with toiletries, condiments, fishing equipment. There is even a dog bed for your pet. The house is centrally located in the western end of the national forest with plenty of hiking, scenic drives, etc. The town of Mena has shoppes and restaurants if you don't want to cook.
The place is truly a peaceful retreat and we would highly recommend it to family and friends
Two things none of us want to waste. Time and money. Well, this place was perfect for the get away we were looking for. More beautiful than the pictures and all the sweet things ppl said about Roland and Becky are true. Stop your searching and book this place. Move on to planning the menu and deciding on which jammies to pack.
Beautiful and relaxing!
We very much enjoyed our anniversary weekend stay. The home and property are are truly beautiful and the owners are lovely people. Sitting on the deck or in the living area was so serene. The attention to detail was remarkable and they were so thoughtful in not only acknowledging our anniversary, but Mother's Day as well. My husband enjoyed catching fish off the deck while I relaxed reading and listening to the babbling water and the rest of nature. I saw the most beautiful bluest bird I had ever seen and the garden pathways were lovely in sight & smell. The home was clean and had all we needed to prepare our meals. We hope to visit again soon.
Amazingly Serene and Peaceful Getaway Home Away From Home.
We were looking for a private getaway to celebrate 32 years of marriage and this home could not have fit the bill any better. As we drove through the private gate entrance we had huge smiles upon our faces. It is a gorgeous property with huge trees and landscaped features and plenty of natural settings surround an open meadow for walking. We were greeted by the owners Roland & Becky and their dogs Skyla and Cooper in tow. As the Otts showed us around the house we were very impressed with the amount of detail that they've placed inside this home. I say home with the utmost sincerity because my wife and I felt completely comfortable and "at home". There is a huge wrap around deck that overlooks the river where we spent much of our time sipping coffee in the mornings and grilling in the evenings or just relaxing. We were amazed that everything we needed for our stay was inside the house, it was completely furnished with all a person could need. While spending our time there we felt completely secluded whether inside or out sitting on the deck listening to the river waters run past us. However the Otts were close by and quick to respond with any thing we might have needed or had questions about.
Mena is not far away if you wish to go into town for a meal or stop at any of merchants for supplies or information although Roland & Becky keep a large source of information inside the house for things to do in the area if you wish to explore the Ouachita National Forest. We recommend driving up to Queen Wilhelmina State Park through the Talimena National Scenic Byway, you won't be disappointed. We also took a canoe trip down the Ouachita River which was very fun and beautiful.
As a cyclist I highly recommend the area if you enjoy riding gravel roads with almost no traffic. Mountain bikes and mixed surface gravel bikes work great out here. I was able to explore the area by bicycle with it's challenging terrain, lots of hills as one would expect. While I rode my bike my wife was happy to sit out on the beautiful deck and read a book or just enjoy the wildlife and scenery this home has to offer.
As it was time for us to leave my wife and I both were sad to depart such a beautiful place and could have stayed much longer if our time was available to do so.
You won't find nicer more genuine people than Roland & Becky and we were grateful for their hospitality and kindness. Book a stay with these fine hosts at their wonderful and beautiful getaway.
