Privately owned cottage located in Westgate River Ranch. Please google Westgate river ranch to view
amenities. River Ranch is a western theme resort with buffalo, cattle, horses, petting zoo, rodeo on
Saturdays, marina, golfing, swimming, skeet and clay shooting, and many family activities. It is
located 23 miles east of Lake Wales, in a country setting, away from tourist traffic
We are former snow birds from Ohio. We enjoyed coming down every winter. We liked it so much, we sold our Ohio house and bought a house adjacent to the resort. Our cottage is remodeled and is very comfortable and cozy. Decorated in a western theme.
Carol Fox purchased this cottage in 2005
It is in the country away from heavy coastal traffic. Centrally located to see all of central Florida attractions.
It is in a dude ranch setting with buffalo, cattle, horses, fishing, skeet shooting, golf, rodeo, swimming, boating and many other amenities. A great place to get away. Family friendly.
It was everything we hoped for.
A word that comes to mind to describe this cottage is "used," but NOT in the sense on untidy or unclean, but in the sense that your own home is used after you've lived in it for a few years-- not all doors close entirely perfectly, for example. Indeed, cleanliness is tops here. And for staying at River ranch, this cottage is unbeatable. It is well stocked with everything you can think of-- and wont have time to use all-- but it's good to know it's there: toaster, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker (standard), b-b-q, cooking/eating utensils, and so on, plus all the major appliances, of course. Do bring your food, for the nearest grocery is about 20 miles away.
Cellphone reception is very poor, especially with ATT as compared to our son-in-law's Verizon-- unless you walk out to the middle of the backyard. But hey, let THAT be part of the adventure! And that backyard is expansive, more than big enough for family soccer or kickball when not roaming the ranch. And high-speed internet connection is included, if you must.
The cottage is part of a four-unit structure but it feels very much like free-standing. It is very centrally located, especially compared to the glamping or the teepee areas, which are ridiculously expensive. Still, bikes are a good thing to bring (we did) since the ranch is very spread out. Nevertheless, walking is doable (and we did that too).
The decoration is decidedly western/cowboy and is very inviting, right down to an old time spittoon! I wish I could include pictures, for they would really be worth any amount of words.
Lastly, the owner, Ms. Carol Fox, is a pleasure to deal with. We didn't ask for much but got the clear impression that we could have, and that's good to know too. Thank you, Carol!
Really enjoyed our stay. Everything was in working order. It had everything we needed. We would highly recommend it to all.
We enjoyed our stay at River Ranch. The condo was beautiful and had everything we needed. Carol made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay pleasant. We were there for a month and Carol told us about a place to rent a golf cart at a reasonable price, as the resort rents golf carts for $60 a day. The only downfall is you are 25 minutes from any store,. If you want a week or two away from normal life and want to relax, than this is the place.
We stayed for two nights and found the cottage to be better then the listing - nice surprise. The owner was WONDERFUL and easy to work with. She was even pleasant when we locked ourselves out Saturday night. We rented the golf cart which is great fun! The kitchen is complete with almost any cooking utensil you'd ever want. The beds were comfortable and the AC worked well even in the heat of summer. There are two couches and four TV's. The fireplace can be used without heat. There are three tables with lots of comfortable seating. The property was clean with plenty of linens, cookware and dishes available. Our family enjoyed the rodeo Saturday night, the petting farm and lots of other activities on the property. The restaurant at the marina had good food with a nice view.
One of the things we noticed throughout our stay was the helpfulness and pleasantness of every employee we encountered at the Westgate River Ranch property.
I would highly recommend this property.
Spent a week here with 3 grand children ages 15, 12, 8. They had a very good time. There is a lot to do to keep kids of any age busy. There is bike riding, tennis, basketball, fishing, archery, horseback riding, miniature golf, bungee jumping, zip lining, rock wall climbing, swimming and a rodeo on Saturday evenings. Also has a big campfire where you can toast marshmallows. The petting zoo (park) is a must for all ages too. The owners were very accommodating and very nice to work with. The cottage is very spacious and had everything you need. There was even a game table with bumper pool on the enclosed porch. Great place to bring your family.
