Bayou Guest House is located in Mid-City on the historic Bayou St. John. This private second floor residence overlooks the Boogaloo festival in May and is a walk or short bike ride to City Park, Jazz Fest, Endymion, restaurants, cafes, bars, and the streetcar line. In the building awarded the “Golden Hammer” award by the Mayor of New Orleans for its beautiful West Indies architectural design, Bayou Guest House offers a fresh, elegant atmosphere to visitors seeking gratifying accommodations.

Perfect place to chill

Wonderful, spacious house with three nice bedrooms, each with full bath. Nice view over the bayou from the porch. The pool table and foosball table are an added bonus to a lovely spot.

Home away from home in NOLA and more! GREAT PLACE TO STAY!!!

We had a very special trip planned to NOLA for my daughter's 21st birthday and needed a little extra space and room so we decided to book through Home Away instead of a hotel. Don't be worried that it's not right in the middle of downtown. In fact, it's location is a HUGE plus! The street car is just a few blocks away to access anywhere you want to go. It's not super busy or noisy like being on Bourbon street. There is a fun, delicious place to get Po Boys right across the street!

The house itself is honestly the nicest place we have ever rented before. The beds were super comfortable and we all slept like babies. Each room has it's own private bath. The rooms are large and spacious. The game room is a huge plus! The pool table and foosball gave us fun activities to do while at home in the evening. Games are provided as well. The porch is an amazing place to enjoy the outside. Lots of room for everyone!

Katie was super helpful in providing restaurants and things to do. We even had a nice welcome gift waiting on us that was super sweet!

The living room has a nice huge couch that everyone fit comfortably on. The dining table is large and great for a sit down dinner.

I honestly cannot say enough good things about this property. Everything is so well thought out and planned. My husband and I are already planning a trip in the near future with relatives and plan on staying here again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! You won't be disappointed! We made lasting memories and hope for more in the future!

Excellent Stay and Perfect for Us

The Bayou Guest House was a perfect stay! There were 3 couples/friends meeting for a few days in New Orleans; one from Oregon, one from South Carolina, and one from Texas. We were all very impressed with this home. Not only did each of us have our own bedroom/bathroom, but the living area was most comfortable; the kitchen/dining area was perfect for the meals we prepared there; the game room with the pool table was a fun gathering our first night after travelling; and the outside porch was heavenly for sipping wine in the evenings after long days on our feet in the "city." Another plus for this location was being directly across the street from Parkway Bakery and Tavern, the best poor boys in NOLA! And, all the Uber drivers knew exactly how to get us home! The communication with Katie, the Property Manager, was excellent. She was most welcoming and made the trip exciting to look forward to. We all agree that we would most definitely come back to the Bayou Guest House.

Perfect house for three couples to share

We rented the Bayou Guest House with 2 other couples for 5 days and it was perfect. This house is BIG, well-stocked with everything we needed, and very clean. All 3 bedrooms are thoughtfully furnished and decorated, and we especially appreciated not having to share bathrooms. Enjoyed having coffee/cocktails on the covered porch. There is a fair amount of traffic in the area, especially from nearby construction, but it's quiet inside. We did not rent a car and found it easy to get everywhere we wanted to go. We walked to the park (New Orleans Museum of Art), the local grocery store (Rouse's) and neighborhood eateries (Neyow's, Parkway Bakery & Bayou Beer Garden), took the trolley to the French Quarter and then caught a bus to walk up and down Magazine Street. We used Uber to go to a walking tour of the Garden District & Lafayette Cemetery, to get around after dark and to/from the airport. Would definitely stay here again!

Bayou Guest House was great

The house was very well appointed and comfortable. It had everything we needed and was perfect for three couples. The deck was lovely and including coffee, cream and cookies was a very nice touch. A great location, too--far enough from the French Quarter to be quiet, but easy to get there, downtown and the the Garden District.

This Mid City neighborhood that runs along the Bayou St. John is rooted in the deep cultural history of New Orleans. Originally named Bayouk Choupic by the Native Americans settled here, the bayou has served as grounds for many things from voodoo ceremonies to coffee importing over the last 300 years.

These days, the neighborhood is mixed with both homes & local businesses. It offers a taste of local life away from the busy touristy vibe.

Demographics include young professionals, generations-long Nola families, weekend-visiting homeowners, earthy folks who appreciate green-living, & retirees.

The surrounding streets around the apartment is active during the day with the famous po'boy restaurant across the street, kayakers on the bayou, neighbors walking their dogs, and the Lafitte Corridor - a bike & jog pathway that connects us to the French Quarter.

Every Thursday is a Farmer's Market across the bayou. Within walking distance are several bars & restaurants, a wine garden, & the street car. City Park/Museum of Art & Jazz Fest/Race Track Fairgrounds are a nice 1 mile walk along the bayou & meandering streets.

In the evening, the area is quiet.
