Deep Water, Large Dock & Upper Dock, Quiet Cove Just Off Main Channel
About Janet Westbrook
We grew up in nearby Charlotte and spent weekends on the lake. After discovering the tranquility of Lake Tillery with its beautiful sunsets, Morrow Mountain across the lake and the Uhwarrie Forest in our back yard we knew we wanted to have a home here. Our family loves boating, tubing, water skiing, fishing, hiking and entertaining. We are blessed to have all that here. We live nearby closer to aging parents. Lake Tillery is away from it all but not too far from it all. We would love to share our home so you can make your memories there also.
Janet Westbrook purchased this House in 2003
Why Janet Westbrook chose Mt Gilead
We love lake living and all that comes with it!
What makes this House unique
We love evenings watching sunsets on the screen porch, reading a good book on the porch swing that face the lake, grilling out with friends on the deck and swimming and fishing from the dock. Magnificent views from bedrooms and living areas. Cool breezes in the summer and a cozy fire in the winter.

Tillery Weekend Getaway
Excellent location and plenty of room. Love the boat dock area, very deep water. Great for both boat and swimming. The owners were amazing in their response to our many questions prior to our arrival! Thank you for a fabulous weekend and sharing your home!
Great location, plenty of room and sleeping space. Love the downstairs area which is where the young parents played games after putting our grandkids to bed and they didn’t have to worry about being quiet. Kitchen well equipped for the many meals we prepare and shared. Loved our quick 4 day weekend vacation.
The property and location is outstanding. The check in process was not smooth at all. We were suppose to have passes ready for us at the guard shack for entry but didn't.
In fact all of our guests encountered the same issue. The cleanliness of the home was by far the worst rental we have encountered. Our daughter spent over an hour cleaning the bottom floor of the home, not all the beds had clean sheets so we had to wash them before going to bed. We tried to use the vacuum to clean the cobwebs and dead bugs along the baseboards but it was not operational. After we returned the cleaning supplies we used to clean the showers and bathrooms we found a dead mouse under the kitchen sink cupboard. The owner did respond right away! and did have someone come to the home the first night and clean the bathrooms and floors.
We sometimes give someone an opportunity to be a backup housekeeper for us in the event our wonderful housekeeper cannot make it due to sickness, vacation, etc. This was one of those times. Sadly, this potential fill in housekeeper will not be back to clean for us. We are very fortunate that our regular, and wonderful, housekeeper was able to come and make things good again. The vacuum cleaner is working. We are told that passes can sometimes be misplaced or not made yet if the owners leave as a message on the answering machine. Every effort is made to have the passes ready for each guest before arrival. We do appreciate each guest!
Appears nice on the surface!
The pictures online are not up to date. There is no bunk beds, this was a problem for us. We had five grandkids with us who don’t sleep well when sharing the same bed. The hide away bed in the living room had mouse feces and was dirty. There was a small issue with the air conditioning unit. The owner informed us that a repairman would be stopping by. We mentioned to the repairman that he might want to also check the air filter. The owner contacted us the next day and said that he would be stopping out to change the filter. We notified him that he may want to bring some mouse traps. We had been seeing evidence on the kitchen counters and a few other places. When he arrived he apologized for the inconvenience and the mouse problems. He changed the filter and set some traps. The house has a nice layout just needs a deep cleaning. The beds were VERY FIRM.
Thank you for the reminder to update the photo of what was the bunk bed room! We just recently took the bunks out and replaced with a queen and twin with a brand new pillow top mattress. As for the air conditioning unit, it is used round the clock in the summer months especially to keep our guests cool. Thankfully it was a real small issue and we were happy to pay it immediate attention so there would be no disruption in comfort. We were thankful for a heads up on the possibility of a mouse. Being in the woods it’s a possibility, just like our guest mentioned they deal with in their home. Mouse traps were set and at the end of the week we were happy to hear none had been caught or seen.
Summer Family Vacation
Our stay was wonderful on Lake Tillery! The communication was par. Everything was as expected except there is no longer a bunk room and it still worked out fine for 11 of us. The surface cleaning was fine as this was the prime rental time. The kitchen supplies were great with plenty of dishes, silverware, pots and pans. The lake was calm and there was endless jumping from the dock, floating, fishing and sliding into the water.
